Liam Craig dashed after a white frisbee as it darted through the air. He leaped and caught the disc while simultaneously crossing the goal line into the end zone. On the evening of April 23, 2017, the Northfield Church Frisbee Group joined together on the Spring Creek Soccer Complex for a spirited first outdoor game of the year. Soggy soccer fields and bare feet promised to make an entertaining and slippery combination. “Nice catch Liam,” said Peter, an athletic high school student as he jogged up to the end zone. He congratulated Liam with the glorious high-five of victory as he stood tall, proud of his team's accomplishment. “Bring it in, bring it in, it's time to stir the pot.” Liam said. Most of the team members huddled up and prepared …show more content…
for the touchdown dance. Stirring the pot, a new and considerably awkward dance, consisted of people holding hands and making a stirring motion while making noises of a bonfire, eventually ending in the explosion of the pot. Any remaining team members continued to stare at their weird teammates and pondered why they had to play with them. “What was that?” John, the illustrious event director, called out from the opposite side of the field.
He seemed to enjoy the ridiculousness of dance; however, he also looked a little traumatized. “I have no idea. I just made that up.” Liam shouted back, a smile spread across his face. “Nice catch Broseph.” James said as he gave Liam a bump on the shoulder. James, Peter's younger brother always had a smile on his face and a jovial disposition. After a few minutes of rest, both teams prepared for the next point as they lined up for the serving throw. Just before the serve, the wind picked up, sending a refreshing breeze floating across the field. With gracefulness and brute strength, one of the players hurled the disk through the air, and the point began. While the opposing team received the throw, Liam's team rushed towards their temporary rivals and started their effort to once again regain control of the frisbee. Thanks to the wind, the frisbee floated in the air a little longer, allowing for more time to set a defensive position. Later in the point, after many turnovers, the opposing team made some solid connections up the field; eventually scoring a point. Desperation crept into the minds of the players on both teams as the score came closer and closer in their game to seven
points. Eventually, after almost forty-five minutes of playing, and all the exertion put into the match, Liam's team emerged victorious. Everyone exchanged handshakes and shared the usual pleasantries. “Good game.” Liam said to his teammates and opponents. Following a few minutes of hydration and talking, the team selection for the next game began. Usually, the rock-paper-scissors game decided who will play on certain teams. For the most part, team's skill levels evened out even with such a luck-filled selection process. “I will do paper.” Liam said. “Rock, paper, scissors, shoot!” Liam chose to stick by his word and play paper and lost the match, consequently joining the losing team. As Liam walked over to his side of the field, he saw his team consisted of some people that really knew how to throw. Of course, this excited Liam because he could run and throw well; thus, creating a dream team. However, looking across the field, the other team brought a formidable challenge as they had players who could run really fast and some who could throw as well. “Alright all we need to do is make smart, easy, and short throws and we can score.” Liam pointed out to his team as they prepared to start the game. When they followed the plan, they finished the first point in just a minute or two without breaking a sweat. Many challenging points followed, each one harder than the last, tiring every player, making them all desperate to win. With a worn-out team, Liam moved up the field throwing the frisbee from player to player, getting closer and closer to the precious end zone. However, after a crushing mistake, the team missed a throw and the frisbee changed possession. “Sorry, bad throw on my part. Good run Andrew.” Liam said, disappointment bubbling inside him as he attempted to keep the game alive. Unfortunately, the other team won the game after many laborious points. Both teams exchanged handshakes and started packing up. Relief flooded through Liam, for he finished the game and immediately prepared himself to bike home. As he pulled away, he initiated his long farewell. “Goodbye James.” Liam shouted as he bikes away from the group. As he biked away, he awaited for James' response. “So long Liam.” James shouted back; a smile spread wide across his face. “See you next time James.” Liam yelled back. Ready to continue this string of farewells for a long time. Unfortunately, James stopped responding to Liam. When Liam biked away into the sunset, he felt satisfied knowing he had found a great group of people to play frisbee with.
We arrived two hours early; the coach said to us, "I want you all to get your minds ready to play and prepare yourself for a battle."
So the objective of this game was to outscore the opponents by shooting the ball through the opponents basket from above, but you have to stop the opponents from doing the same thing that your doing. A great shot is worth two points or three points if you shoot beyond the three point arc which is 6.75 meters 22 ft 2 in from the basket in international games and 23 feet 9 inches 7.24 m in NBA games. A one-point shot can be earned when shooting from the foul line after a foul is made. When you get foul you have to go to the free throw line and shoot from there,
It all started freshman year of high school. I really wanted to get involved in some kind of sport or club. I couldn’t decide what to do. Many people said I should join the lacrosse team and my response was “I have never played before, how am I suppose to make the team”. I always had an interest in lacrosse however I was scared to go out and buy all the expensive equipment and not make the team.. I went home that night and asked my parents what I should do. My dad encouraged me to go out and try. He said it doesn’t hurt to try. That next morning of school, I raced to the athletic office and signed up for lacrosse, and when that bell rang after school I went to the lacrosse store nearest to me and bought all of the gear so that I could make the first tryout. The fist tryout was the day after I bought all of the gear.
Nobody could stop Plymouth North as they scored on their opening drive drawing first blood. Plymouth South had no answer for the tough Plymouth North defence as they could not score. After a timely timeout, Plymouth South adjusted both sides of the ball leading to a stop in Plymouth North’s momentum. WIth no team being able to score the game went back and forth.
He thought it was very unique and he was simply surprised that he did not know about the impact such a simple movement can do to a dance which is stomping. This documentary
Just this year, I was voted the Vice President of my high school Robotics team. Although it’s by far one of my proudest achievements, at first, I didn’t understand why I was given such an honor. I’ve been in my high school Robotics club since freshman year, I’ve attended every single meeting, fundraiser, and event, and I’m an avid lover of programming and robotics. Yet, with all of this, I didn’t think I would be an official for my Robotics club. This was mainly due to the fact that I possess all of the qualities that I thought a leader shouldn’t have. I’m kind of a shy guy, I’m not very confident in myself, and I’m usually pretty quiet. Most people believe that great leaders are supposed to be self-assured, outgoing, and expressive. I’m none
I have been playing softball since the age of six. From the time I could walk, my dad had me out in our yard teaching me how to swing a bat and throw a ball. Growing up, softball is all I have known. Both of my parents played softball and baseball growing up and in college. They both have taught me everything they know about the sport. Softball has taught me more than the physical aspect of the game. In softball a player can strike out seven out of ten times and still be considered a good hitter. Everyone has rough days, but I have realized that I just need to come back the next day and work harder. My parents have showed me that working hard at it will help me succeed. Whenever I have a bad game, instead of getting down, I take it as motivation to try harder the next time.
The sport of Pickleball was founded in 1965 in Bainbridge Island, a ferry ride from. When Congressman Joel Pritchard, William Bell, and Barney McCallum arrived home after a day of golf, they found their children restless, and tired of the “old” summer activities. They set out to create a game that would entertain them throughout the summer. Their ideas to create the game came from the hopes of creating a game that would be both challenging, but easy to set up and play. When the game first began, materials included ping-pong paddles, and a wiffle ball. Then, they lowered the net on their badminton court. As the game became more popular, people began to make their own paddles using wood jigsaws, and marine plywood. Today, over 100,000 people play Pickleball in the United States. According to Barney McCallum, the game was named, “Pickleball” after the Pichards’s dog Pickles who would often case and run after the ball when played.
Rashim told Colin and Andrew that they needed to help him stand out this game. Colin said, “Rashim, we want you to go to the NBA as much you want to. We got you and we're gonna make you the MVP of this game.” Rashim knew that his friends would always be by his side to help him. The timeout was over and it was almost half-time. LaSalle was down by 8 and knew they needed to come back to stay in this game. Wissahickon missed a shot, and Andrew got the rebound and passed it to Rashim and he made a three pointer! With 4 seconds Colin got a steal and threw a bullet pass to Rashim, and he got the shot off with one second left, and he made it! The crowd was filled with excitement and cheering for Rashim. “I couldn't have gotten those points without your guys’ help,” he shouted excitedly. But the game wasn't over, and LaSalle was still
Outdoor entertainment was a favorite pastime of many families, and Wham-O provided many with hours of fun. In 1957, Wham-O released the first Frisbee toy. The inventor, Walter Morrison got the idea for the toy in the late 1940’s and developed a plastic version that would fly easily. He “originally named it the ‘“Pluto Platter”’ hoping to cash in on the alleged flying saucer sightings at the time” (Epstein 34). The toy company Wham-O bought it and changed it’s name to Frisbee, which came from a story about how college kids would fly pie pans around from a Pie company named Frisbee Pie Company. The Frisbee became popular and is still around today, albeit modifications have been made (Epstein 34).
It began to drain our energy and flood our minds with frustration from the referee’s terrible decisions. The frustration mentally affected our positivity and dampened our performance. I could hear groans and moans from members in our team sounding like dying screams of wounded war heroes. My muscles were in agonising pain from fighting for possession and constant sprinting, putting my body on the line. I needed to surrender but couldn’t give up. I needed to continue the second half and inspire the team by helping us to gain victory. After a few strong words from the leader, we started the second half of the battle on top form. Using our young beginners to tire out the opposition, we had the advantage of more troops. It was finally our time to make the final play of the battle count, to overrule Albany and claim the
People had been tossing Frisbees around for years, but had yet to create a sport using the Frisbee disk. At Columbia High School in New Jersey, students from the school newspaper created a new sport, combining different aspects of soccer, football, basketball, team handball, and hockey, they called it Ultimate Frisbee. These students decided to write an official set of rules for Ultimate Frisbee. At first, it was only played by a few students at Columbia. The sport soon caught on at other colleges and high schools in the area. From then on, Ultimate spread rapidly throughout the United States, and was at first played only in schools. Since then many non-scholastic leagues have formed and many countries have started national teams. Not much has changed since the rules were first published, and since then, Ultimate has spread all over the world.
Ultimate Frisbee is a sport that is played by many people. In fact, it is a professional sport. It is a fairly simple sport, and does not require too much equipment. All it requires is two teams and a Frisbee disc. There are also optional accessories, such as gloves with grip, shoes that are light and allow fast running, and warm clothes.
Down two with six seconds to go fatigue had taken it tolls on the players. With little energy left; over time was not an option. I knew I had to go for the win. I walk on the floor confident of my ability that was until the whistle blew quickly turning my confident to butterflies. As I fought to get open I quickly saw the ball coming my way. As I rose for a jump shot time itself began to stay still. An in flesh everything became silent. As I watch the ball leave my hand I envisioned greatness; sure the ball was on its way in I started to celebrate that was until I hear the announcer say my teammate tip in miss shot to win us the game. Mix with emotion I celebrate with my teammate. “Ok guys, we have 24 hours until tip off. Get some rest because this is going to be the biggest game of your life. Let’s bring this championship back to Barton College. Go Bulldogs and Goodnight!” Why few players stay in the lobby to hang out I took it talk upon to work on my game and reflect on the semifinal game that just took place. At basketball games you will notice how there are all sorts of fans attending the game.
