On a chilled morning of November 26th, a rivalry was dueled out between Plymouth North High School at Plymouth South High School. A classic Thanksgiving tradition of high school football was played out in an epic matchup. Plymouth North had the advantage coming in winning 14 out of the last 19 Thanksgiving games played. Plymouth South came of two very substantial victories giving them a great deal of momentum. Plymouth North had two difficult losses, losing to two out of division teams. A key factor that played in this game was injuries. The frequency of injuries in football is most common than any other high school sport played. Studies show that 7 out of 10 severe injuries in high school football result from contact. With this sport being so dangerous, why do so many students participate? Plymouth North senior captain Justin Cabral explains, “I love the rush that I get. Being able to absolutely destroy someone else gives me a feeling better than anything I have ever felt. I feel so powerful, like nobody can stop me.” Nobody could stop Plymouth North as they scored on their opening drive drawing first blood. Plymouth South had no answer for the tough Plymouth North defence as they could not score. After a timely timeout, Plymouth South adjusted both sides of the ball leading to a stop in Plymouth North’s momentum. WIth no team being able to score the game went back and forth. WIth a minute left in the first half, Cobbin decided to throw the ball on third down which was an usual running down. The game went back and forth with a Plymouth South Andrew Shortall touchdown followed by a Plymouth North Miles Uva 41 yard rush into the endzone. With the score now 29 to 14 things heated up as Plymouth South had determination. Two scores right away in the fourth quarter from an Anti 14 yard run to a Shortall 56 yard run touchdown, scoring a two point conversion along the way. Frustrations rose for Plymouth North as the score was all tied up at 29 to 29. Luckily for the Plymouth North team, things changed with their offensive scheme getting the ball to the 25 yard line. Looking back on all the hard work Plymouth North had done, they pulled out one last miracle with a touchdown from Drew to Uva for 25 yards. With the score in advantage for Plymouth North at 36 to 29.
