Coping with situations within FRIED GREEN TOMATOES
Human Nature, it’s our instinct, our reaction, our thoughts, and our ability to make decisions. It has been examined from every conceivable angle. It has been scrutinized, interrogated, glorified and even corrupted by every medium in the world, but none so extensively as the written word. Literature has explored every component of human nature from pride to envy and insecurity to depression. Fannie Flagg’s novel FRIED GREEN TOMATOES pays particular attention to human nature and specific ways we choose to cope with the situations that life places before us. Flagg explores humor, nostalgia, and avoidance as common examples of how, not only her characters, but humans in general confront the circumstances surrounding their lives. Humor is and integral part of human nature. It has the ability to lighten almost any situation and put people at ease. Humor is a common bond between any person on earth, from the very wealthy to the impoverished. Idgie Threadgoode is the perfect embodiment of humor. Her wisecracks and tall tales helped her to face a number of less-than-comfortable situations throughout the novel. A prime example of her use of humor was with Smokey Lonesome. When Smokey first comes into the café for a bite to eat, he is so nervous that he can’t stop shaking and he most certainly cannot eat. Idgie, seeing his discomfort, introduced herself and proceeded to tell Smokey a joke. “On November, a big flock of duck, oh, about forty or more, landed right smack in the middle of that lake, and while they were sitting there, that afternoon, a fluke thing happened. The temperature dropped so fast that the whole lake froze over, as solid as a rock, in a matter of three seconds. One, two, three, just like that…. They just flew off and took the lake with ‘em. That lake is somewhere in Georgia, to this very day…'; Idgie’s exaggerated use of humor allowed the wanderer to settle down and relax. Later, when her nephew Buddy jr. is run over by a train and loses his arm, Idgie once again uses her sense of humor to help him look at the situation from a lighter side. “When he was little and there was somebody new in the café, Idgie would bring him in and have him tell this long story about going fishing on the Warrior River, and he’d get them all caught up in the story and the Idgie would say, ‘How big was the catfish Stump?
George constantly reminds Lennie that he would not be struggling if he wasn’t taking care of him (STEINBECK, 1977). Similarly, in the film What's Eating Gilbert Grapes, Gilbert is a teenager struggling to provide for his family consisting of two sisters, a mentally handicapped brother and an obese mother. Gilbert is held up with responsibilities making him have no time for a social life (DEWIS, 2011).
...g statistics about the public’s health and make the future seem bleak, “the lifespan is shortening for new American children” (Pastor) and “ one in three children born after the year 2010 will develop type II diabetes” (Pastor). Pastor says that he is shocked by the impact and wants to break away from the cycle created. In his closing statements he convinces the audience to break away from the cycle away as well, by drawing on the seeds he planted with pathos, ethos, and logos. The film was well made and addressed all the issues of “organic” food and well informed the audience of what is occurring. Next time, an audience member goes to the supermarket to buy food they will probably remember what their children will look like in twenty years if they don’t take a more “organic” approach to their lives.
My humor consists mainly of a mix of high and low comedy, and sarcasm. One element of humor that does not appeal to is caricatures. An example of this is a terrorist joke. The terrorist was holding a pencil and saying “Where is the trigger?” exaggerating the fact that, in the news we hear about terrorism, and when the terrorists come to America they would not be able to decipher the language or the meaning of objects. The joke did not appeal to me in anyway and didn’t make sense. A certain part of an element of humor that does not appeal to is disgusting anecdotes. In the passage, Brothers by Jon Scieszka, a family goes on a roadtrip and stopover to eat. A brother drops a piece of candy and the cat eats it and yacks it up. “Tom burped a bit of Stuckey lunch back on Gregg.” The bodily functions and them throwing up and spilling out of the puke wagon had made me lose my appetite for lunch.
David Sedaris, the author of “Me Talk Pretty One Day”, tried diligently to make his essay funny. However, most of his humor fell flat in comparison to that of Dave Barry’s “Lost in the Kitchen.” This comes from someone who finds most things overly comical. Many of his attempts at humor lacked appeal because they provided no commonality to the reader’s own experiences. I have never gone to France or even left the United States for that matter, especially not to study a foreign language. Although, I do have experience with confused men performing simple household tasks such as cutting up vegetables. Many readers do as well which allowed a better connection to the essay.
Comedy differs in the mood it approaches and addresses life. It presents situations which deal with common ground of man’s social experience rather than limits of his behaviour – it is not life in the tragic mode, lived at the difficult and perilous limits of the human condition.
In today’s world everyone is pressured to get married and have kids. Either by society, friends or family. When you’re in a relationship for a while the questions start to be asked such as “When are you getting married?” Once you’re married then the questions “When are you having kids?” are asked. Couples have an intense amount or pressure to start families. When the couple is finally ready to have kids after many failed attempts they find out they are incapable of producing children of their own. Which is the most devastating time a couple can go through. But if adoption doesn’t appeal to the couple, another option can be is surrogacy.

To sum up, cloud computing may not be cost-effective, especially under some circumstances. For those enterprises which already have certain scales, upfront investment of moving up to cloud could be substantial due to the magnificent data foundation. Once an organization involved in cloud, that means it is going to rely on cloud to some degree. The efficiency of the organization might suffer from delayed technical support. Even some practical cases (MemSQL, Zynga and Uber) show cloud is not suitable for long-term business operation. Besides, a company may suffer a great loss due to cloud’s security issue. Thus cautious consideration should be taken by before the final decision.
Brand identity really allows the company to flourish, and stay a strong reputable brand. The brand personality is a mix of young and fresh, while still remembering nostalgic aspects from the brand. The company appeals to emotions. They draw up feelings of nostalgia. The brand has a way of being classic and hip at the same time. They present this personality in their choice of advertisements and product. Everyone can recall what a classic Coke bottle looks like. The glass has a hint of green with sharp curves. It is all branding and brand personality.
Cloud computing is a relatively new technology that allows data to be stored, distributed and manipulated with greater ease than ever. As described by Gurjar and Rathore (2013), the “Cloud is a large pool of easily usable and accessible virtualized resources. These resources can be dynamically reconfigured to adjust to a variable load, allowing also for an optimum resource utilization” (p. 1). By moving data, documents and media to the Cloud, the potential for business efficiency and productivity increases and anyone with internet can take advantage of the benefits. As with anything, it is important to understand the risks and benefits in order to weigh whether or not moving to the Cloud is the best move for the business. Some companies, like Lavu, an iPad based point of sale system, operate solely on the Cloud. Without Cloud computing capability, some organizations would not exist.
Surrogacy allows couples who do not want to adopt and cannot conceive, have children. One important factor in favor of surrogacy is that people who want to have and love a child should be able to have options. In Alice Jolly’s article detailing her experience hiring a surrogate, the lives of the parents, the two women donors, and the child were happy and healthy. Another reason parents would chose surrogacy is the biological component. Unlike adoption, a surrogate child can have the genetic makeup
When I think along the line of what I have learned in the educational world there is just one word that comes to mind “WOW!” To think back and realize that my skills in communication, team work, problem solving began in primary school and are still continually developing today. I have learned to value and appreciate the ability
Surrogacy refers to an arrangement whereby a woman called the ‘surrogate mother’ agrees to become pregnant for the purpose of gestating and giving birth to a child for others to raise. She may be the child’s genetic mother (traditional surrogacy) or she may be implanted with someone else’s fertilised egg (gestational surrogacy). This practice has gained a lot of prominence as it provides many infertile couples with genetically related children. Surrogacy also helps homosexual couples to have genetically related children and can assist a single man to start a genetic family. Commercial surrogacy can be categorised as altruistic, wherein the surrogate does not financially
Over the years, the topic of surrogacy as a new way for parents to achieve parenthood has sparked a lot of controversy, mostly between individuals who agree and disagree with the overall mission of surrogacy. “The definition of surrogacy is the practice by which a woman, known as a surrogate mother, becomes pregnant a gives birth to a baby in order to give it to someone who cannot have children” (“Surrogacy”). The surrogate process has become a great solution for couples who have difficulty conceiving on their own and same-sex couples who wish to become parents. Unfortunately, many of these hopeful individuals face hatred for their choice to go through with it because others argue that being a surrogate or having one carry their child is ethically immoral and it involves several risks for the parents and the surrogate mother. The question remains:
If there is one way to bring a smile to someone’s face, it is laughter. Funny jokes, comical stunts, sarcasm- Every person is different when it comes to what makes them laugh. Some find dry humor comical. Others think sarcasm or joke-filled ranting are the best. ‘Comedy’ is such a broad term, broad enough to allow everyone to find something they find comical. In fact, ‘comedy’ includes a specific type of drama, one where the protagonist is joyful and happy endings are expected. Comedy is like a drug; it allows you to escape reality. When we say the word ‘comedy’ in the present, we are generally referring to a type of performance which provides humor. However, in its broadest sense, comedy has only one purpose: comedy makes people smile and
