Who do you know to blame when there are 20 people at fault? Romeo and Juliet is a play about two young people who fall in love quickly and was written by William Shakespeare. At the end of the story, Romeo and Juliet end up dying. The question is: who is to blame and held accountable? The prince should hold Friar Lawrence accountable for all the turmoil in the story. He was being irresponsible when he got someone else to deliver the message to Romeo, got Romeo and Juliet married, and gave Juliet the sleeping potion. Friar Lawrence says the letter arrived late due to a plague that broke out in Mantua. He did not bring it to Romeo. The friar says, "Who bears my letter to Romeo?" (V.II.13) Friar John also said,” I could not send it here again nor get a messenger to bring it to thee, so fearful they were of the infection.” (V.ii.14-16) Friar Lawrence should have made sure that Romeo had received the correct letter by hand delivering it to him. He acknowledged that they were rushing things but proceeded to marry them anyway. The friar said,”So smile the heavens upon this holy act.” (II.VI.1) He wants to marry them; however, to end their family feud, he says, "For this alliance may so happy prove to turn your households' rancor into pure love" (II.III.94–95). He knew that they were being way too fast and could tell, but being irresponsible, he didn't think about it enough before marrying them. He thinks that it will turn into a great thing, but he is just justifying their love, making them feel more connected. Which led to their demise. He also wanted to marry them without their parents' consent. Both groups of parents would not say yes to this, as they wouldn't want their kids to marry their enemies.
