The fresco on the Sistine chapel is arguably the greatest artwork ever completed. Central to the ceiling decoration are nine scenes from the Book of Genesis of which the most famous section is Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam.
Although chronologically the creation of Adam comes before the temptation and expulsion, Michelangelo painted the later first. In both paintings, the figures are in the nude except for God.
In the Creation of Adam, God extends his hand towards Adam's outstretched hand, and their fingers almost touch. Adam reclines on his back, in a lounging fashion.
