There are many theories of hidden secrets in Washington D.C. that some people believe to be real and others to be figments of people’s imagination. The group/fraternity most associated to these theories is the Freemasons. The Freemasons have been revealed in many movies but played a larger role more recently in movies like “National Treasure” and “The Lost Symbol”. With the story lines of these movies being based off of the history of the Freemasons, it has divided people into two separate groups, believers and spectators. The believers think that the masons actually planned and hid symbols into the streets and buildings of Washington D.C. while the spectators believe that these situations just occurred and are only coincidences.
In order to know what the Freemasons might have planned or hidden in the city layout and buildings for Washington D.C. we have to look at where they came from. The Freemasons are the largest and oldest fraternity in the world, being founded in London in 1717. Its members range from presidents, senators, businessmen, ministers, and even common labors. Although they started as a guild in the mid 15th century building cathedrals, they later had to prove their skills and were given a secret handshake and were taught the tricks of the trade. This allowed the Freemasons to move freely from job to job and the handshake acted as a resume to prove their allegiance and skill level. With America being a place of freedom to express yourself, Freemasonry became very popular. In the 1820’s, Freemasonry exploded in the United States. There are roughly 6 million members currently today with 3 million in the United States. As someone advances in Freemasonry they learn secrets of the universe. They take some of these secre...

...ch public attention during this ceremony so a year later, Washington made a big scene by crossing the Potomac escorted by other Freemasons. When they landed on the east bank there was music, drums, flags and food and drink for all. During this ceremony of setting the first south east stone, they once again poured corn, wine and oil to bless the building.
Whether you want to believe that there are hidden symbols in Washington D.C. or not, the Freemasons played a large part of history as they used their knowledge in designing it. From their experiences and allegiance to strict guidelines, they were able to produce a capitol city from scratch that the rest of the world recognizes. Without this knowledge base that was passed throughout generations, there is no way of knowing what Washington D.C. would be like, and chances are it would have been a catastrophic failure.

the Twists of Edgar Allan Poe in THE CASK OF AMONTILLADO, this article deals with the topic of Freemasonry which has always fascinated me. The first sentence of this article captivated me with a solid and simple definition of what Freemasonry, in essence is: Freemasonry is defined as “a beautiful system of morality, veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols” (Mackey, “Symbolism”).
As a student at Northvale Public School, I have grown up with my older siblings being inducted into an organization called the National Junior Honor Society. I had seen all the hard work and dedication they put into their school work and activities just to get into this society, making me want to be just like them. Then a few weeks ago, I found a note on my desk in homeroom telling me that I had been nominated to be apart of this society. Through citizenship and character, leadership, and service, I intend on being inducted into the society I have heard so much about. Though it will take a lot of effort this school year, being a part of this society is a dream of mine that I will make sure to come true.
This makes the appearance more grand and gives it a visual relationship to Roman Coliseums. (Uppercase?) At the top of the entrance tourists can see a pattern of the names of states in the Union. The building entrance contains marble steps that lead up to thirty six doric columns each standing at forty four feet to recognize the thirty six states of the Union at the time of Lincoln's death. The building itself is ninety nine feet in height and very symmetrical. The great size of the memorial makes tourists appear the size of ants in comparison. The perspective of a tourist would be similar to that of a child as they would be looking up to things at a greater scale than their own. This resonates an awestruck and even flabbergasted feeling in tourists. It also makes them feel like Lincoln is more powerful as he is at such a grand scale. The monument materials also have meaning. Materials from numerous states were used (:; ???) granite at the terrace level from Massachusetts, the marble of the upper steps and outside façade came
The United States rests upon a foundation of freedom, where its citizens can enjoy many civil liberties as the result of decades of colonial struggles. However, African Americans did not achieve freedom concurrently with whites, revealing a contradiction within the “nation of liberty”. It has been stated that "For whites, freedom, no matter how defined, was a given, a birthright to be defended. For African Americans, it was an open-ended process, a transformation of every aspect of their lives and of the society and culture that had sustained slavery in the first place." African Americans gained freedom through the changing economic nature of slavery and historical events like the Haitian Revolution policies, whereas whites received freedom
The Capitol building was overall the building in Colonial Williamsburg with the most important events that occurred, and the most political talk going on. It was used often by the House of Burgesses, therefore being useful in the event of war or politics. People should commemorate the Capitol Building in Colonial Williamsburg for its importance to the people back then, now, and its connection to the Colonial Williamsburg motto, “The future may learn from the past.”
First of all, the Capitol had a large significance during revolutionary times in American history. It was the location of the meeting place for the House of Burgesses. Likewise, it was the place where the House of Burgesses made the decision to recede Virginia from England, becoming the first colony to speak for independence from England. That meeting paved the road of Independence for the other colonies to follow. After that, the burgesses had their final meeting in the Capitol before moving to the new capital, Richmond. The Capitol served many people after that, acting as an admiralty court, a law school, a military hospital (Rev. War), a grammar school, and a female academy. Thus, the Capitol has majorly helped in affirming
Freedom In the novel, The Giver, by Lois Lowry, the protagonist lives in a futuristic utopian society. Jonas is selected to be the community's Receiver of Memory, the only person who knows about color and the past. Jonas and the giver are the only people in the community who can see colors and have memories of the past so he’s free to see every memory of color and he’s the only kid with that power. Lowry's characterization of Jonas reveals the importance of freedom through her development of community rules, release, and his final escape. One way that Lowry shows freedom through Jonas is through the community’s rules.

My time here at Iowa State University has been great! The aspects that make it great are embedded in the values that Iowa State represents. The Memorial Union has shaped my experience at Iowa State in many ways. This is where I eat lunch everyday, meet friends, and occasionally listen to a mind stimulating lecture. When I first came to Iowa State, I was very oblivious to the fact that maybe a building could influence my experience. I was wrong. The Memorial Union has always focused on developing the students into leaders. The mission statement of Iowa State University is to create, share, and apply knowledge to make Iowa and the world a better place. The Memorial Union is a great example of a building that has complex features and programs with in it

In “The Formula: The Novels of Dan Brown”, Doris Eder connects the plot, characters, themes, and subjects of Brown’s first four novels to form a pattern. The formula begins with a death in the prologue, which leads to a riddle or mystery of Brobdingnagian importance. In Digital Fortress, Ensei Tankado, the creator of a terrorist computer program, is found dead, leading to a thrilling race to decrypt the perilous code; in Angels and Demons, Leonardo Vetra, an Italian scientist, is found dead in his lab, sparking a race to retrieve a stolen canister of antimatter; in Deception Point, a Canadian geologist falls to his death leading to the discovery of an ancient meteorite suggesting that there’s life on other planets; and in The Da Vinci Code, Jacques Sauniére is found murdered with clues, leading to the discovery of the holy grail, written on his body. This pattern can be further proven with Brown’s Inferno in which Bertrand Zobrist jumps off a tower in Italy, leaving behind a plot to release a sterilizing virus. The Lost Symbol, however, does not follow this pattern, but in the first few chapters Peter Soloman’s hand is left in the rotunda of the Capitol Building with masonic symbols tattooed on his fingers. According to Eder, the resulting plot in Brown’s novels involves one or more secret society, whether ancient and modern, such as the National Aeronautical Space
Throughout our history, cults have become a prevalent part of our society. More and more cults are forming every day. Although not all of them are dangerous, some can perform practices that are toxic to their members. Cults use fear and control to gain more and more members. Once members join a cult, they are forced to perform the practices that the cult leaders require. It is through these practices that cult leaders convince their members to stay in the cult. Through mind control and scare tactics, cults have become a very powerful and dangerous part of our society.
currency, the U.S.’s government also holds many secrets. In presidential elections, it is common knowledge that in most instances the presidential candidate with the most financial support usually wins the race. With the Illuminati’s faction of international bankers, it is not challenging to accumulate the resources needed to win the election for the candidate of their choosing. Along with their secret members, they need a base or assembly point to hold meetings and other rendezvous. It is speculated that this would likely be the Denver International Airport because of the long list of suspicious features. To begin with, the airport was built in 1994 by none other than the New World Airport Commission which immediately sent up the first red flag. The dedication stone supplies information like who built it, the date it was built, and contributors. Two of the contributors on the plaque are two leaders of the local Freemasons’ club and stamped on it is the ‘Mason’s logo. “Now as everyone is aware, the Masons are foot soldiers for the Illuminati, even if they are not overly keen about hiding away. But the stone’s not-so-subtle links to the Illuminati do not end there.” Once inside, one may quite a few huge and disturbing murals painted on the walls. The most famous and alarming one is titled “Children Of The World Dream Of Peace”. Despite its seemingly cheerful name, the mural depicts what looks like the end of the world and all
