There are different kinds of partners in the world: Black, White, Asian, Straight, Gay, etc. However, not all of them are accepted by the society. Holding someone’s hand in public? It may be the sweetest, most innocent and natural of gesture of affection. However, when it comes to a couple with the same sex, things become completely different. People may think it is disgusting. Therefore, gay couples have to tolerate others’ disgust looks and nasty words, or sometimes even worse -- a punch. The topic of whether we should support homosexuality has become more and more controversial in recent years. Although it seems like an awkward topic to write with, I still believe people should change their opinions on homosexuals. They do nothing wrong and deserve to have the equal rights as us.
It was broadly believed that homosexuality was a kind of mental illness and could be cured if people respond well to treatment. However, nowadays homosexuality is no longer considered a form of mental illness by mainstream psychologists and psychiatrists. “Japan’s psychiatric body called it mental illness until 1995, and the World Health Organization until 1993. The American Psychiatric Association removed homosexuality from its list of disorder in 1973.” (The Associated Press 1) China also removed homosexuality from its list of mental illnesses in 2001 after five years of study. Although homosexuality is not a mental illness itself, sometimes gay men and women have mental disorders due to pressure from family and society.
In Russia, A homosexual is not allowed to do things that others are free to do. For example, the athletes that kissed in public after winning a medal were not lesbians, so it was acceptable with Russians, but if they wer...

... that it has a huge influence especially on youth attitudes. Homophobia is going to be more and more on life support by the young generation. With so much bad stuff happening around us, this at least is something to celebrate.
I hope we can still work on until the society start to hear our voice and people begin to change their minds. As president Obama said, “Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law, for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well.” Hopefully, the punch thrown to the gay couple was the first time, and will be the last time. After reading all of my words, if you still insist on against homosexuality. May I ask you a question: Why are people in our culture more comfortable with seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?
Gay rights has always been a controversial issue in Russia. Russia has anti-gay laws that cause big conflict in the country. Some of the laws that were passed include the gay propaganda law which is against exposing children to any gay media. Another big law which is on its way to being passed is they law against gay people adopting children. Because of this big issue going on, Fareed Zakaria a CNN news reporter investigates the situation. Zakaria interviews Valery Gergiev, an artistic and general director of Mariinsky Theatre. Zakaria makes sure to get Gergiev's point of view on the situation. By asking for Gergiev’s opinion, he is hoping it will gain the people of Russia’s attention. Gergiev states “I myself question very much why the country needed something like this law” which shows that he believes the new law is unnecessary. Gregiev also says. “ I myself hate any form of discrimination. I would never allow any sort of discrimination to take place”. By Zakaria asking this, he is trying to persuade the audience that discrimination will rise from this new law and gay people will no longer be treated equally.
In our world there has and will always have social issues that our society that is damaging our people. One of the proponent issue is in our world is Homophobia. As Homophobia is defined has people that dislike of or is prejudice against homosexual people. Recently our society has started to be more accepting with the LGBTQ community. Homophobia has really affected all people in very negative ways regardless of their sexual orientation. As homophobia is based on someone disliking or being prejudice to another person targeted to people that are homosexual. There are many people that want to fight against homophobia and help protect and support the LGBTQ community. The different sexual orientations of all individuals they have the right to be who they identity them selves as. As homophobia not only affects the LGBTQ community but affects every sexual orientation, seeing that much hate and prejudice toward people it is just sad and disturbing that people still hate on something they have no control over.
Society is created with both homosexual and heterosexual individuals. Previously when certain laws discriminated against others, such as law for women's rights to vote, these laws were changed. Changing the traditions of the country does not mean that it will lead to the legalization of other extreme issues. Each ...
For years homosexuality in the United States of America has been looked down upon by citizens, religions, and even politicians. The homosexual culture, or the LGBT (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender), has been demoralized and stuck out and lashed against by the Heterosexual community time and time again. To better understand the LGBT community we must first grasp the concept of Sexual Orientation.
Currently, only 13 countries offer rights for members of the LGBT community. Within those countries, few offer equal rights such as health care, marriage rights, and adoption to LGBT members. Many people around the globe would agree that these rights, along with all other rights granted to heterosexuals, should not be granted to these members of the LGBT community. One prevalent notion is that being gay, or being included in the LGBT community, is unnatural. This notion is simply incorrect; everyone, no matter their gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation does, in fact, deserve the same liberties as their heterosexual counterparts. Being a member of the LGBT community has no negative effect on the lives of others unless those people view heterosexuality in a negative light, allowing it to bedevil them, and ultimately change the way they live their life. Being gay is completely natural. Though some would argue that homosexuality is unnatural, others would disagree, being that research has been conducted. The conclusion was that the way people think and feel towards others is s...
the beginning the text has an exciting tone since the authors describe the overwhelming emotions of individuals as well as the celebrations that took place after the law allowing same sex marriage was approved. By starting the article in this manner the writers are trying to provoke feelings of excitement from their readers in order to make them think that this event is a positive aspect of our society. Also, by mentioning the gay movement’s multiple efforts over the past “forty-two years to ensure the marital as well as civil rights of homosexuals” (Virtanen, Hill, and Zraick 1), the writers motivate their audience to be sympathetic towards these individuals. Moreover, the authors try to make people become more suppo...

Homophobia is a term that is defined as the hatred and fear towards people that are attracted towards members of the same sex. Homophobia can be found in western societies and also in other areas of the world where homosexual practices are punishable by law. While heterosexuality is accepted by society through public expression such as romance, courtship, marriage and family, the lives of homosexuals are reduced to something that is done as private. Effects of heteronoative practices can be witnessed through the usage of social media where people including teens use the Internet as an outlet to talk about their experiences of bullying and in some cases admit they plan on completing suicide. Through the effects of bullying and stigmas, resistance practises have started to occur such as “Pink Day” where institutions and communities raise awareness of celebrating diversity towards homophobia and all other forms of bullying.
In sociology, the LGBT community is viewed as a subculture to the dominant world culture. The community is generally accepted by the dominant culture and although the group has some of its own beliefs and rituals/traditions, it still adheres to the fundamental beliefs and cultural expectations of the dominant culture. Before being considered a subculture, homosexual relationships and variations of sexual orientation were classified as devian behaviort. Even before that, someone who experienced homosexual thoughts or tendencies was labeled as mentally ill. The idea of homosexuality being a mental illness appeared in the DSM until 1987. There are still remnants of homophobia today but the consensus (at
Most people have grown up in a society where being a homosexual is not okay. Although LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) people are being more accepted, they are still thought as ‘wrong’ to a lot of people and places. A big argument is that being gay is “unnatural” however, it is found that homosexuality is practiced in over 1,500 animal species such as giraffes, lions, and several species of apes and monkeys. We believe the hate against homosexuality should decrease, and the homosexual rights should increase.
In today's society, there exists a mixture of issues which tend to raise arguments with people all over. There are a handful of topics that always seem to escalate these differences between people to the point where one who earnestly participates in discussion, debate and argument can direct their anger towards their feelings on the person themselves. Some examples of such delicate subjects are the death penalty, abortion, and euthanasia. An issue that has in recent years, begun to increase arguments, is the acceptability of homosexuality in society. Until recently, homosexuality was considered strictly taboo. If an individual was homosexual, it was considered a secret to be kept from all family, friends, and society. However, it seem that society has begun to accept this lifestyle by allowing same sex couples. The idea of coming out of the 'closet' has moved to the head of homosexual individuals when it used to be the exception. Homosexuality is nothing to be ashamed of and we should all come to realize this.
The constitution of the United States of America gives me the right to freedom because I am a United States citizen. I consider "freedom" to be my right to express myself in any way I choose. Freedom is defined as "having liberty of action or thought, independent". "Self-governed or not controlled by an outside party" is another definition of freedom. Freedom has a different meaning to each individual thus making it hard to find a clear concise definition.
... that it is turning onto a social norm in Western cultures. Most religions in Western Culture have been basing their stances on how society changes and evolves. Christian churches are becoming more and more flexible with members who may identify as homosexual.
As the years have passed, homosexuality has become a very controversial topic. The fact that day by day they fight for equality just to be happy, I think it is an injustice that many people refuse to give them the rights they deserve.
Solutions like legalizing gay marriage is good and all but what America needs is a total overhaul on how we view gays, and not view them as gays, but to view them as human beings like us. Not try to change them for who they are but to accept them as who they are and treat them with respect. The LGBT community doesn’t just want legal marriage, they want to fit in and be accepted into the mainstream world as humans and not just the gays in the same way black people want to be equal with white people or deaf people wanting to be accepted just as much as someone who can hear. Saying being gay is a crime is basically saying being blind is a crime. People use the excuse that “it’s against their religion” but so are tattoos and divorce but we don’t see you protesting
