Insubordination is defined as the refusal of a direct order, but what if that direct order is against the law or against a company policy, is it still insubordination? What if it is simply against your own personal moral code? There is a fine line between insubordination and free-speech and it doesn’t take much to cross it. To answer this question it really goes back to the type of company you are working for and what the employee is saying. I firmly believe that all companies should allow their employees the opportunity of free-speech, it not only allows the employees to have a voice, it helps employees feel valued.
