Hope is a worldwide known term. The definition of hope is: to want something to happen or be true and think that it could happen or be true (Merriam-Webster Dictionary). Hope is not a tangible thing, it’s a feeling. A positive feeling that could come from a difficult time in life or at any time. Hope to me is a heartfelt emotion, a feeling that I experience on the daily.
Hope is like a door; a door to a positive outlook to life. Expectations that things will be better and or will get better. A positive attitude towards life. Knowing that if you believe it, it is possible. Hope is like religion, most of us have wished, hoped, desired for a good thing. The light at the end of a tunnel, the light representing a good outcome, a happy start.
I have hope that my life will get better with time. When it comes to pursuing my education, getting to work, getting by at work, being a good mom, a good life partner, a good person. I want to pass my classes, I want to learn, I want to achieve and make my loved ones proud, especially myself. I have a hard time believing in myself and my potential. My coworkers and

My dad had 10 years to live if he did not have a surgical procedure to remove the polyps. He had the procedure and for the rest of his life he will have a colonoscopy bag as well as to take numerous amounts of medication for the rest of his life. My sister was diagnosed with the polyps shortly after she became paralyzed from the waist down. Needless to say it was a very difficult time in my family’s lives. It was so much to take in, I was only a teenager and did not comprehend entirely what was going on, the drastic changes in our lives that would occur. In all the commotion in life, the only thing that remained in my heart was hope. In all honesty, hope has always been with me. It’s part of who I am, part of who I was, and part of who I will be. It’s the feeling that comes up and welcomes me with open
“Hope is defined as the action of wishing or desiring that something will occur.” Hope helps people move forward in life to see what’s coming next for them. For example, “I had no right to let myself die. What would he do without me? I was his sole support” (Wiesel, “Night”.) This quote explains the effects of hope in a pitiful situation. Eliezer Wiesel and his father were torn apart, mentally and physically from everything they

The poem “Hope is the thing with feathers” states that hope is an ever-present force in one’s soul that sustains one through hard times, although it isn’t rational. This ideal of hope having ‘feathers’ and being the strength that keeps one going is seen throughout Of Mice and Men. Wishes sustain most of the characters, and although these dreams aren’t a concrete thing, they are still drawn to the possibility of a better life. Hope keeps people afloat in hard times, and gives them a reason for living. It’s best to view hope as the maiden in the tower-beautiful, yet unreachable. It’s something to aspire to, but hope can’t achieve anything without work. Hope is something everyone is drawn to, but is only hoping. Wishing doesn’t make things happen.
Hope, by definition means to look forward to something with reasonable desire and confidence. Hope also means a person or thing in which expectations are centered. When discussing the word hope, one must consider the core values by which the word works around. You could hope for financial success, world peace, or simply hope for some good out of your day. In 2006, Barack Obama wrote the political biography The Audacity of Hope to outline his core political and spiritual beliefs, as well as his opinions on different aspects of American culture. The Illinois senator divided the book into nine chapters, each concentrating on both his own and the United States’ successes and failures in local and state politics. While revealing great leadership attributes, life experiences, personal qualities and hard facts, largely in anecdotal method, Barack Obama offers realistic, wide and thoughtful responses to today’s current domestic controversies using artistic appeals, such as ethos, pathos and logos. Senator Obama also gives the audience an in-depth analysis of the key policies that need to be changed for both Democrats and Republicans, and delivers an inherent message to offer hope to anyone, regardless of background or experiences. In the prologue, he discusses in great detail virtually every major political issue facing the American electorate today, offering his opinions and possible strategies for reform. “My motivation in entering politics was to cut through decades of polarizing partisanship and develop a moderate, effective approach to our government.” (Barackopedia.org). Obama notes that this same impulse, an impulse of a secure, functional and sustainable administration, prompted him to write The Audacity of Hope.
Hope has the incredible ability to make or break someone. People are always told to make large goals in school and employment, and try to reach those ambitions no matter how far they are. Hope is the motivation behind accomplishing dreams, but it also has the ability to break people who have hoped for something so desperately, yet never came to fruition. Only determination and personal situations can persuade hope to fly or fall. A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly highlights this ambiguous hope we depend on through the use of symbolism, characterization, and inner conflict.
Hope isn’t just a word, it’s a feeling. Moreover, it’s a word, a feeling, and a desire. In the Urban Dictionary it defines hope as, “A feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen. A feeling of trust. To want something to happen or be the case.” So it’s true, hope isn’t just a word. In The Diary of Anne Frank, Anne has
What is hope? Hope is the feeling of desire for a certain thing to happen. Hope is something that even when everything goes wrong you still believe that there is still good somewhere. Hope is something that even the toughest people will feel. Hope relates to the theme in S.E Hinton’s, The Outsiders. The theme of this story, is just because something bad happens, that doesn’t mean that you can’t stop living life to the fullest, and even when the going gets tough you still have to have hope that it will get better.
Hope is the expectation and the desire for an event to happen. For many people, having hope is to see a reality with a positive feeling. From hope, faith comes in. Having faith in something unrealistic motivates people to keep moving forward and try the best of their abilities to make something happen. Most of today’s religions, especially Christianity, based most of their doctrine on the faith of salvation from Jesus Christ‘s sacrifice and the hope of living for eternity, if we obey the laws of God in accordance with the Bible.
Writing a self-reflective tirade is perhaps one of the most difficult tasks to perform. I have found myself pondering this topic for an unusually long time; no one has ever asked me to write about my culture-- the one thing about myself which I understand the least. This question which is so easy for others to answer often leads me into a series of convoluted explanations, "I was born in the U.S., but lived in Pakistan since I was six. My brothers moved to the US when I was thirteen" I am now nearly twenty, which means I have spent half my life being Pakistani, the other half trying to be American, or is the other way around?
It can help the achievement of extraordinary things and push people to new heights never before seen. Hope is an idea, something inside the minds and hearts of those pursuing it. It is a concept, yet it wields limitless power. It can be seen in every essence
Hope is the strong feeling of desire for something good to happen. Hope is a driving force in the progression of life. The idea of hope is powerful because it can lead to patience, courage, and happiness. Hope is an important concept in Cry, the Beloved Country. Hope is what the main character Stephen Kumalo must use to keep fighting for his beliefs, for his son, and for his tribe. The power of hope is one of the only things that people had to overcome apartheid in South Africa. If hope were not present, Stephen Kumalo may have gave up on restoring himself, his son, and his tribe. Hope is the concept that helps Stephen Kumalo and other characters develop during the span of the novel. Hope is found in the characters, the tribe, and the land.

The simple notion that they can achieve something they want allows people to keep finding ways to advance themselves so that they can reach what they want. It also allows people to push themselves so that they can not be complacent with where they are, and show that they are hungry for more success and show that failure is not an option for them. The same study showed that the level of hope for a person can affect their mental health dramatically. They have noticed that people with lower levels of hope have shown weaker work ethics, less social interaction, strong signs of depression, and some have even reported thoughts of suicide.
The “Hope” is optimism. Freedom from hope is freedom to your soul. You can no longer hurt yourself by living. It is hard to believe that being hopeless leads to living, but living is an imprisonment. We try to be the best we can be but does life limit us?
What is hope? Desmond Tutu said, “Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all the darkness.” It whispers, “You’ll overcome this hardship.” It reassures us, soothing our minds by reminding, “life will improve.”
