“Thinkin’ ‘Bout You” Poetry Analysis
A person’s train of thought can go in any direction, however when something is bothering a person that same idea can circle through their mind. In the song “Thinkin’ ‘Bout You” by Frank Ocean, the speaker’s emotions are circling through his mind and depict how the speaker feels about the woman he loves. Ocean portrays the circling thoughts through the use of a relatable simile, understatement and the use of language.
Ocean’s uses a relatable simile to explain his emotions. In the first stanza, the tragic tone is established:
“...it usually doesn’t rain in
Southern California much like Arizona
My eyes don’t shed tears, but boy, they bawl” (2-4).
