To begin we will first discuss the Franciscan value that states, serve one another, society, and the church. Francis spent his life growing up in central Italy with his parents and his brother. Francis was described as "not much of a student." (Galli, 2002) He could hardly read or write and never furthered his education, Francis was more into carefree living. He liked to stay out late with his friends, dance and sing throughout the streets, and party with groups of people. Francis was known for being outgoing and curious. "He was a natural leader, and many young men were anxious to be in Francis's presence, especially if it meant flirting with the law and social custom."(Galli, 2002) As Francis is described as a light hearted, outgoing young …show more content…
Francis changed his way of living from being self-centered to worrying less about the materialist things and had begun devoting his life to helping the churches. As Francis was working on the churches and devoting his life to God people were only noticing his appearance had changed because most of his changes were personal and did not go noticed. A story was told that Francis was attending a mass when a priest had read a part of scripter that spoke to Francis, the verse had explained how Jesus had told his disciples to go out into the community and preach. "'This is what I seek, this is what I desire with all my heart!' Francis was flooded with joy. He immediately went about changing his ways even more." (Galli, 2002) The change that had occurred in Francis was that he had began going out and preaching to the public. As Francis shared his passion and his beliefs with the public he started to gain followers. "Though all of society believed in God, when Francis spoke, it was as if God was real for the first time."(Galli, 2002) The value, encourage a trustful, prayerful community of learners relates to this story because it shows that Francis is gaining followers and encouraging prayer throughout his community. This value is important in today’s society but it is portrayed in a different way. Our community and today’s society isn’t solely based on religion so I believe this …show more content…
This is more of a broad stated value but Francis valued God’s creation of the world and believed that humans, animals, and plants were all part of God. “He believed that creation was not only beautiful but good, because it reflected a Creator who represented goodness.” (Gagliano, 2012) This quote expresses how Francis valued the natural life that God created. This Franciscan value is still alive in today’s world because there are many organizations that are put together to protect natural life, oceans, and the atmosphere. I believe that more people in today’s society could follow this value and improve more on respecting our
The Franciscan Terrane of central California represents an accretionary complex formed by long-term subduction of an oceanic plate under the Western margin of the North American craton. The Franciscan complex is composed of three distinguishable belts: the eastern belt (Yolla Bolly and Pickett Peak terranes), the central belt, and the coastal belt. Age and metamorphic grade of the belts decreases to the west (Blake and Jones, 1981). Formation of the accretionary complex began during the late Jurassic in the eastern belt and has continued into the Miocene along the western coastal belt. The complex trends NNW and is bounded by the San Andreas Fault to the east and by the coastal range fault to the west. The coast range fault separates the Franciscan complex with the partly coeval Great Valley sequence. Debate exists over the tectonic evolution of the Franciscan, centered around the geographic origin of the Franciscan rock units.
Chapter one, ‘Beginnings at Assisi,’ offers a vivid description of the social, political, economic, cultural, demographic description of Assisi and its inhabitants. Here, the author describes the life of Francis and the situations and circumstances prompting his journey to spread the ideal gospel life to the world. This chapter is relevant in determining the circumstances that instigated a need for reforms in the Catholic Church. This chapter is applicable in my life because it offers insight on the fundamental Christian I can rely on in my daily life.

After he was released from prison he decided to change his life. Francis visited many places, but lived in Assisi Italy. He had also lived in Mt. Subasio in 1208. There, during mass, he heard a voice saying to him three times to go out into the world and to posses nothing and do good ...
There are six practices that Francis helped put in place transformed Christianity for good. His practices are still preached today. Friendship, Francis was friends with everyone. He had the ability to accept those in poverty and the wealthy, but even more he was able to accept the purity of nature and animals. Francis preached that we all are equal and have something to offer one another. Poverty is another practice that Francis had spoke of. He felt by giving everything you have and living with nothing allowed you to become one with poverty. Spirituality was also something that no other leader had ever preached as an important time no matter who or what, faith is the ultimate connection to follow God. Francis cared for everything no matter what it was, human, animal even things such as rocks needed to be cared for. Finally Francis's last practice was death. Francis felt that death was his sister. Everyone would be encountered with it and it was something not to be feared, but be more looked at as peaceful (Sweeney,
I would love to learn more about Pope Francis’s views on everything. He demonstrates what it is like to be a virtuous person and as Aristotle has said “The virtuous life is the best life.” By being as virtuous as Pope Francis, I believe that is what makes us, as humans, the most happiest.
But with the help of God, he was given the strength to bypass those obstacles and succeed. Saint Francis once sold a piece of his father’s clothing and his father’s horse. After hearing of what Francis had done, his father became enraged and brought Francis to confront with the local bishop. The bishop told Francis to return his father's money for what he had done was a act of thievery. Francis tore off his own clothes, returned the money owed back to his father, and announced that God was the only father he would obey from this moment on. This event is considered by many as Francis's final conversion. Francis began his ministry by giving up all his valuables to live a life of poverty, he did this to resemble Christ living the life of a carpenter. He soon drew a large following; his followers became known as the Franciscan Friars. At the age of 44, Saint Francis of Assisi died on October 3, 1226. Two years after his death he was canonized by Pope Gregory IX on July 16, 1228.
...usade or immediately after. They often recounted much of the military drama associated with the events of the Crusade and remained relatively silent about the tenets of Catharism. still lives on today in catholic churches. In attempting to present itself in the same light as the popular Parfaits, the papacy created two new preaching orders: the Dominicans and the Franciscans. It is evident that the In this they were consciously emulating Parfaits. The Cathar Tengriist principles were adopted and implemented by the Lutheran and Protestant Churches, and many other existing Christian denominations. St. Francis was an Italian Catholic and a talented poet. As an Italian, his heart moved naturally to deep affection, love and enjoyment. As a poet, he could see right through the outcome of those answers. One night during a dream, he saw his house turned into a palace. The walls of this palace were hung with glorious armory, banners, shields, and swords – all instruments of war. Suddenly he heard a voice, it explained that this was to be his palace, the gathering place for all his knights. The arms were theirs, the banners, and tokens of their countless conquests. To complete this wonderful dream, a gorgeous bride awaited him. St. Francis awoke charmed. A few days after that, he left Assisi to go to Southern Italy to enlist. He reached Spoleto, wh...

Saint Francis of Assisi was a uniquely spiritual man who gave up a life of wealth and position to lead a life of poverty in accordance and service to God. Embracing a life according to the Gospels, Francis went on to establish a Monastic Order, known as the Franciscans. In the midst of the political climate within the religious community of Italy, Francis emerged a champion for the poor and sick, with humility and no regard for himself. Francis exhibited his love for God through his love and admiration for all of God's creation including nature. The principles of Saint Francis are as relevant today as they were in thirteenth century Italy; service and love to all of God’s creation.
Padre Pio, whose real name was Francesco Forgione was born on May 25, 1887 in Pietralcina, a small town in southern Italy. Every since he was a child he has always showed love towards the religious life. It is said that at the age of 5 Padre Pio had already dedicated his life to God. He had an extreme love for prayer. At the age of sixteen he entered the ‘Capuchin Friars’ which are a religious order in memory of St. Francis of Assisi. From the first time Padre Pio had entered into the Friary he was already recognized by his teachers as someone special. “There was something which distinguished him from the other students, whenever I saw him he was always humble and silent”, one of his peers had said. What struck them most was Padre Pio’s love for prayer. In the year 1910 at the age of 23 Padre Pio had been ordained a priest.
