Artist express themselves through many different outlets. Some expressing through paintings or structures, but some also do it through songs or videos. Creedence Clearwater Revival, a band from the 60s and 70s, spoke through their songs. Several of their songs were based off of the Vietnam War. One of these songs spoke of the drafting of young men into the military called “Fortunate Son”.
The Vietnam War began in 1954 between North and South Korea. (History.com) The United States of America allied with South Korea to fight against North Korea. While those that were fortunate were able to be protected because they had money and fortune that kept them from being drafted. These men that were drafted to go into the Vietnam War were sent there because the senators decisions causing the unfortunate men to fight because of it. Protesting started because society saw it as a pointless war.
The movement against our involvement in the war started as small groups of peace activists and students, but eventually grew bigger in 1965. ("Vietnam War Protests.") Not only were they in disagreement of the involvement of the United States, but also all the men that were being drafted and the numbers of lives being taken because of what was seen as an unnecessary war.
