“For once, I’d like to experience what she feels:/ nausea, blindness, and pain that strike/ when the cranial vessels dilate,/ fill with blood, leak, and make the brain swell”(Dominguez).This sentence describes how the speaker’s wife hasn’t been well. Also how the husband would massage his wife's feet while she was ill; symbolized his care for her. In the poem Wedding Portrait, by David Dominguez, he uses imagery throughout the poem to show the love the husband has for his wife.
More specifically, in the first stanza the wife is the speaker and she explains hanging a wedding portrait of Frida and Diego Rivera. The wife had stated, “I wonder how two people could consistently hurt each other,/ but still feel love so deeply as their bones turned into dust?”(stanza 1). Which shows some foreshadowing into the wife’s relationship with her husband; and how they may not get along all the time, but they still care deeply for each other. This had symbolized Frida wanting to be freedom from all that she had suffered from mentally and physically. This painting had only been finished eight days before Friday died of health problems. Which in fact her husband Diego Rivera had died from health problems too, and he had also painted a watermelon portrait. This is connected with the poem Wedding Portrait, because the relationship between Frida and Diego are being relived through the speaker in the poem. In the poem the husband talks about how his wife is having problems with her health and how he wonders what it feels like for her. Frida Kahlo was an amazing woman whose many tragedies influenced her to put her stories into her paintings. She was born in July 6th 1907 to a Mexican Roman Catholic mother who was of Indian and Spanish decent and a German photographer father. Frida had three sisters, Mitilde and Adriana, who were older and Christina who was younger. She learned about Mexican history, art and architecture by looking at her father’s photography. When Frida was six she got polio and it was a long time before she would heal completely. After surviving polio, Frida’s right leg became weak and thin, so her father encouraged her to play sports to help her.

It is clear that the author, Roald Dahl, utilizes a variety of literary devices in order to create an element of suspense in the text, “The Landlady.” An example of this would be Dahl’s use of foreshadowing in the text. The Landlady states in the text, “But my dear boy, he never left. He’s still here. Mr. Temple is also here. They’re on the fourth floor, both of them together” (Dahl 5). It is evident how this would contribute to the component of suspense for the reader. The use of foreshadowing throughout “The Landlady” is meant to hint towards Billy’s impending doom, and thus would compel readers to anticipate Billy’s fate, creating suspense. Foreshadowing contributes a great deal to the dark humor/mysterious aspect of Dahl’s style of writing.

The book, Into The Wild, has a very intriguing storyline. The protagonist, Christopher Johnson McCandless, also known as Alexander Supertramp, faced internal and external conflicts throughout his journey. One example of an internal conflict that he faced through was his complications with his family. He discovered that his father, Walt McCandless, had been living two completely different lives for several years. Christopher was born to his mother, Billie, while Walt was currently married to his first wife, Marcie. Two years after his birth, Walt became a father to another child, which belonged to Marcie. I believe that Chris was filled with anger and felt betrayed, but kept it to himself. An example of an external conflict that he encountered was the nature. He was filled with confidence that he could survive in the wilderness. Even though many individuals warned him and attempted to scare him off, he declined all of their suggestions and continued his plans. Chris attempted to strive through the wild and harsh climates, but failed to do so. People had different theories about his death.

There is no doubt that when bad things happen to people, they want to reflect their misery on others whom they think caused it, which is exactly what happened with Edmond Dantes, a once innocent man who became consumed by hatred.
Immediately, the narrator stereotypes the couple by saying “they looked unmistakably married” (1). The couple symbolizes a relationship. Because marriage is the deepest human relationship, Brush chose a married couple to underscore her message and strengthen the story. The husband’s words weaken their relationship. When the man rejects his wife’s gift with “punishing…quick, curt, and unkind” (19) words, he is being selfish. Selfishness is a matter of taking, just as love is a matter of giving. He has taken her emotional energy, and she is left “crying quietly and heartbrokenly” (21). Using unkind words, the husband drains his wife of emotional strength and damages their relationship.
Many famous writers use foreshadowing. An author needs to use different instances of foreshadowing. Charles Dickens was a great British author who used foreshadowing. A Tale of Two Cities, written by Charles Dickens, contains many examples of foreshadowing.
