When foreign workers are employed, the host countries can reduce the labor cost. This is because workers from Bangladesh, India or the Philippines are happy and satisfied to work for salaries, which are low in the host countries but high in their home countries. Foreign workers are also ready to work in remote places or at times when local workers would not. This means that the economy is boosted by cheap labor and low production costs. So, I strongly agree that over reliance on foreign workers can reduce the labor cost of the host countries. (Anonymous, 2011) By employing foreign workers, problems like shortage of workers can be prevented. As all of us are aware of, the image of the construction industry is poor in the eyes of local workers. …show more content…
According to the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA), close to half of foreign workers who underwent medical tests last year are infected with the contagious airborne disease tuberculosis (TB). Local daily The Star reported today MMA president Dr H. Krishna Kumar (12 March 2015) as saying that illegal foreign workers who do not go for medical screenings are the biggest factor behind the rise in TB cases, noting that medical tests found last year that 17,981 foreign workers are infected with TB, or 47 per cent of those tested. Thus, I strongly agree that over reliance on foreign workers can cause contagious diseases to be spread in the host countries. (Dr H. Krishna Kumar, …show more content…
Failure in communication between the contractors and foreign workers caused to the failure of the works in the construction site, which might lower the productivity and quality of the works. According to Toh, R. (1993), studies show that the main adjustment problem facing by foreign workers is language. Besides, foreign workers are unable to communicate among themselves as their origin countries are different from each other. A few of them are able to speak Bahasa and English while the rest are unable to do so. I genuinely believe that problems like failure to communicate will rise if the foreign workers are employed. The vulnerable populations studied are immigrants primarily Hispanic and Latinos with tuberculosis. The goal is to teach immigrants on how to prevent the spreading of TB and how to prevent the disease.
The United States cannot afford to lose the economic gains that come from immigrant labor. The economy would be suffering a greater loss if it weren’t for immigrants and their labor contributions, especially during the 2008 U.S. recession. The U.S. economy would most likely worsen if it weren’t for the strong labor force immigrants have provided this country. Despite the mostly negative views native-born Americans have towards immigrants and the economy, their strong representation in the labor forces continues today. Immigrants aren’t taking “American” jobs, they are taking the jobs that Americans don’t want (Delener & Ventilato, 2008). Immigrants contribute to various aspects of the economy, including brining valuable skills to their jobs, contributing to the cost of living through taxes, and the lacked use of welfare, healthcare, and social security when compared to native-born Americans, showing that the United States cannot afford to lose the contribution immigrants bring into the economy.
The process of migration of health care workers is one of the important topics of discussion in the healthcare industry today. The documentary film “HealthCare Drain” is throws light on the issue of migration of healthcare workers from their native countries to other developed nations to improve their financial and social situation. This phenomenon although not new, has gained momentum since the beginning of 20th century.
Tuberculosis (TB) is an infection that can attack any part of the body, but it is normally found in the lungs (Huether, McCance, Brashers and Rote, 2008). TB is an infection caused by an acid-fast bacillus also known as Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Huether et al. 2008) It is one of the leading causes of death in Asia, China, India, Indonesia and Pakistan (Huether et al. 2008). The 'Secondary' of the 'Secondary' of the 'Secondary' of the 'Secondary' of the 'Secondary' of the 'Secondary' of the 'Secondary' of the These countries show that in most cases the incidence rate is highest in young adults, and are usually the result of re-infection in recent infections. The spread of TB is attributed to the emigration of infected people from high-prevalent countries, substance abuse, poverty, transmission in crowd places, and the lack of proper medical care for the infected individuals (Huether et al. 2008).
Migrant workers in the Middle East are unskilled workers from undeveloped Nations that transport to another country and become household maids to better their life and their family to gain better materials and social conditions. Many of these workers come from impoverished Nations such as South/East Asia and Africa and are lacking education and resources. For years, it has dragged on in failing to protect domestic workers in the Middle East. Many of them experience abuse, paid low wages with almost no time off, are usually restricted from leaving there household, and have excessive hours of work. Many will face abuse, violence, and are discriminated in their everyday lives and can even be forced into being trafficked.
There is no reason to assume that offshoring has reduced the cost of labor. In fact there may be an increase in cost or poorer quality (Yusuf & O’Connell, 2014 p 478). Because there is no way to assume that there is a benefit when you offshore that the labor will be cheaper you may possibly be paying a higher wage to them. Having a price increase or no difference in price is a negative effect on the economy.
Because they are willing to work harder for less money, this reduces the need for outsourcing. Sourcing Line Computer Economics shows that roughly 2.3 million jobs were outsourced in America in 2012. If immigrants were to replace these positions, shipping costs would decrease significantly. The value of the American dollar would be better protected. The need for communication between other countries in the making of products is no longer needed.
The aforementioned hypothetical or one-off scenarios, while serious, are far from being the norm. The truth is that by using cheaper wages in developing nations, we are not only improving our standard of living, but are improving the goodwill of the planet as a whole. For example, if a laborer in China is able to put an American out of work, it would, at first, be viewed negatively. However, due to the advanced research and development facilities the United States possesses, that worker could, potentially, work as a pharmaceutical researcher – an option unavailable to someone in a developing nation.
The cheap labor is an important factor in the investment attractiveness of the country, Third World counties such as Indonesia and Bangladesh offers United States cheap production of goods , however most of the time they are made in sweatshops, under terrible working conditions and low wages that barely supports their needs . Many people are against sweatshops , they believe that its against human rights and labor laws. Although sweatshops have negative impact on workers health , I think that sweatshops are beneficial to poor nations because it provides jobs and increase their countries economy. John Miller, professor of economics wrote an article “Why Economists Are Wrong About Sweatshops and the Antisweatshop Movement” in which he argues
This is an area where Southwest Airlines needs to focus more of their attention. Currently, Southwest Airlines, is approximately 85% unionized and the airline is trying to negotiate seven contracts concurrently. The ramp, operations and cargo unions have been working without a contract since 2011. The pilots and mechanics have not had a contract since 2012 and the flight attendants contract expired in 2013 (Leff, 2015). In a statement made by the president of Southwest Airlines’ Pilots Association, union representatives must do something while ongoing poor decisions are being made by management that are affecting our airlines passengers (Schlangenstein, 2016). Additionally, the union is also demanding the removal of CEO Gary
United States and Canada are mainly made up with diversity cultures. With the increase population of the migrant works and the obvious problems show up, policies and solutions have to be take in place as soon as possible. First of all, migrant workers need to organize together to form their own unions to speak out their voice and be heard by the employers, individual is limited, but community is huge, they should work together and maser more knowledge to protect their rights and benefits. Secondly, for the government, it is useful to build a platform for them to accept education and improver personal skills, which will not only benefit themselves, but also increase the company’s productivity. Last but not the least, government should come up
International labor issues can come in many forms, effect a variety of individuals and can arise anywhere. Child labor, forced labor as well as human trafficking are all challenges faced in the labor market. The issues are not specific to any particular person, however, there are certain people who are targeted more than others. While outsourcing may target specific individuals, it is not the main or most important issue for international labor. One’s background, gender, age, poverty and education all play a role in international labor issues.

Construction is one of the most dangerous works during this era. The advanced technologies are to be utilized in the construction work but still it is not really safe work. Many of the human beings are now involved in the construction work. It is one of the most typical working fields. Most of the persons who have lack of knowledge, degree and skills join the construction teams in order to earn living. It is said that most of the workers related to the construction industry are not really well educated. This becomes that major cause of their less focus on the work. This proved sometimes very critical condition. One of the most important things in this regard is that workers sometimes not really work with taking great care.
People are blaming that the foreigner took a large number of available job in Brunei and reducing the local job opportunities. They also claimed that Brunei relies on foreign workers in skilled technical and managerial positions as well as lower paid jobs in construction and retailing. As of December 2012, only 36% or 2187 out of 6130 job positions were taken up by the local and the rest fall to the foreigner (Fitri Shahminan, 2013). Majority of foreigners hired are in retail or construction sector. They have the skills needed, more efficient and more importantly cheaper. Difficulty to find job at their home countries and low level of education attainment have caus...
