Did you know that over 50 million people in the United States do not have enough food to eat? These people do not have enough food to eat due to others throwing their food away because of spoilage, funny-looking food, and leftovers. Individuals do not realize that the food they are throwing away can be used for not only feeding families, but providing others with resources. However, there are many solutions people could do in order to prevent food going to waste. In order to reduce food waste, individuals must shop wisely because they would only be eating what they bought and no food would be spoiled or thrown away.

There are many solutions you can do in preventing food to go to waste. For instance, you can shop wisely when going food shopping. Shopping wisely can prevent food from being spoiled. When you shop wisely, you only buy the essential foods and amounts you actually need. The food would not spoil if you buy specific amounts because you're going to eat the amount of food you bought for the time you purchased it for. According to "Food Facts" the author states, "Much of household waste is due to overpurchasing of food, spoilage, and plate waste. About 2/3 of household waste is due to food spoilage from not being used in time, whereas the other 1/3 is caused by people cooking or serving too much." This quote illustrates that most of household waste is due to spoilage and plate waste. By purchasing the necessary food and amounts, you can prevent household waste because you would only be eating the foods and amount you bought. When buying specific quantities of food, your eating the amount of food you bought for a specific amount of time. When buying these specific amounts, no food would be rottened because the food would be eaten before it could get to that point. Individuals shouldn't be skeptical on the possibilities of reducing food waste because once you follow the strategies, you would not only save other's hunger, but save money. By reducing food waste, you are producing 25% of all freshwater in the United States, saving 4% of total United States oil consumption, saving over billions of dollars every year, and saving 33 million tons of landfill waste! Therefore, I suggest you rethink before throwing away any food or overpurchasing.
