When things get tough often your friends are the ones who keep you going. What people don’t realize is that they are there for you way more than you give them credit for. Good friends will support you through thick and thin and you should never take them for granted. In this book Frodo is taking a long treacherous journey. In the end it is friendships that saves his life because they don’t let him go on his alone. In the “Lord of the Rings” by J.R.R Tolkien, the power of friendship is expressed by the selfless actions exhibited by the characters throughout their journey despite the ones who only think of themselves.
Frodo Baggins, the main character in the Lord of the Rings. He uses the power of friendship by risking his life to let evil follow him. Frodo Baggins put himself in danger when he chooses to take the ring out of the shire. “I cannot keep the ring and stay here. I ought to leave bagend, leave the shire” (68). Frodo Baggins knew that it wasn’t safe to put everyone else in danger with the ring in his hands. Frodo Baggins said,”I will take the ring…even though I

Sam is not only a great supporter and a hard working hobbit. He is also very brave. No matter where his best friend Frodo Baggins was going sam was going too. The fellowship and him were discussing whether to look for Frodo Baggins or not. Sam’s immediate Answer, ”Plain as a pikestaff”(446). He said this because his immediate thought was to go with his best friend. Sam felt that the only thing to do was protect Frodo. “Terror overcame Pippen and Merry and they threw themselves flat on the ground in front of them. “Sam shrank to Frodo baggins side” (220). Sam stayed by Frodo’s side even when the Dark Riders were there. Sam may have been scared but his first thought was to go see if Frodo was okay. I think that sam was able to put aside being scared because he knew he was doing it for his
Instead of thinking about himself, Frodo thinks of the people around him in the Shire. Like Luke where he leaves despite his fears, Frodo leaves and not only faces his fears of the unknown but goes in order for the people of the Shire to stay safe despite the fact that he may die showing his selflessness. While on the Death Star, Luke shows his selflessness when goes to save Leia when hearing of her presence on the Death Star. He insists when he talks to Han in the control room that “The droid belongs to her. She's the one in the message.. We've got to help her” (Lucas New 56). Risking his life to save someone he barely knows, Luke shows his selflessness as he wants to save Leia. Both J.R.R. Tolkien and George Lucas have their heroes commit these acts in order to show that they are selfless because through this it is shown that they care about others. Frodo and Luke demonstrate selflessness when Frodo takes up the ring at Rivendell and when Luke joins the Rebel Alliance. When taking up the responsibility to take up the ring at Rivendell at the Council of Elrond, Frodo shows his selflessness as he is cognizant that no one else is willing to take the ring and speaks up as“No one
Selkow talked about how Sam would call and leave multiple messages all throughout the night. This showed that Sam wasn’t getting the sleep he needed. A troubling symptom Sam had was when he had thoughts of suicide. This was brought on when Sam was at his depressed stage in his disorder. Towards the end of the documentary, he admits to Ben that he did have thoughts of suicide and at one of those times he almost went through with it.
The Hobbit, Bilbo went with Gandalf. He was brave because he was part Turk. He wanted to find out if their was any Turk still left in him, He realized his strength, he was kind even though they came to his house without asking and tore up his house. Gandalf saw something in Bilbo and no one else saw potential in him. He wanted to show them that he was strong and that he was not only a Baggins, but a Turk as well. That's why he signed the
This is also known as internal strength. Sam Gamgee demonstrates mental resistance all thoughout the book. At Tom Bombadil's house, the rest of the Hobbits slept restlessly worrying about the outside dangers but, “as far as [they] could remember Sam slept through the night,” (132).His night of sleep demonstrates how he is an emotionally courageous individual. Sam also demonstrates mental strength by his devotion to Frodo. Even when he had the desire to go home to the Shire to save his father he put the wellbeing of Middle Earth first by staying loyal to Frodo. We see a number of characters changing their morals to better themselves, but Sam never changes his stance on staying dedicated to Frodo. Tolkien articulates Sams faithfulness to his master,by saying that while they are at Weathertop, “Sam shrunk to Frodo’s side,”(178). As Sam stood devoted to Frodo, Merry and Pippin cowered. Internal strength is a key component to Sam’s loyalty to Frodo is journey because Sam knows Frodo is the answer to the future of Middle
The hero in this famous book is named Bilbo Baggins. No hobbits liked to go on adventures and explore new paths in their lives. One day a wizard named Gandalf approached the small hobbit and told him he needed someone to go on an adventure. Bilbo refused immediately and tried to get rid of the wizard as soon as possible as he felt uncomfortable with him around as he says in the book, “’Good
The second reason is that his dad laughed at him for him for saying he was going to survive in the wild. His dad thought he was joking and didn’t know Sam was serious. Sam’s dad thought he was just going to come back home and he would have another good laugh. Sam’s dad told him about the time he tried to run away and he was at the docks to leave and he went back home before anyone knew he was gone.
Gandalf is loyal to Frodo and goes down to the mine. Dam is one of the best disciples you can ask for. Some would compare him to Peter the disciple of Jesus. Peter was Jesus’ best friend and closest companion, just like Sam is in LOTR. When Frodo is learning of what is to come and the journey he is about to go on from Gandalf Sam is listening to the conversation.
Another account of friendship is between Frodo and his first hand Sam, throughout the movies you see the bond they share but it isn’t until the end of Fellowship of the ring where you see the truly love they share for one another. While Frodo is trying to leave everyone to stop causing harm to their life, he climbs in a boat and is sailing away. Sam jumps in the water without thinking about his lack of knowledge for swimming, this shows the best friendship because Sam was willing to risk his own life to be with his friend and protect
Meanwhile Sam chases the tarantula back to the lair of Ungoliant, the Queen of Spiders, and after a tense argument about the nature of good and evil she finally reveals to Sam the cure for the spider's-venom which holds Frodo in thrall. Sam thanks Ungoliant for her mercy and wisdom and revives Frodo, and they set off into Mordor to find Gollum. "Oft help will come from the weak when the Wise are foolish," Gandalf once said, and sure enough all the spiders of Mordor are willing to help Frodo and Sam in their quest. Their course leads them to Mount Doom, where just as they arrive they find Gollum claiming the Ring for himself. The Dark Lord Sauron then becomes aware of them, and leaves the Dark Tower to come forth and destroy them; but just them Frodo and Sam rush Gollum and force him backwards into the Cracks of Doom. The Ring is destroyed, and without it Sauron is destroyed by the sunlight. Frodo and Sam leave the Mountain just in time to see the great armies of Aragorn and Faramir coming across the plains of Mordor to greet them.
However, once he realizes that he is the only one that can do it, he gradually starts growing more and more courageous throughout the story, and in the end returns home as a different person. At the same time, Frodo, as well as every other character, has to make sure not to get tempted by the ring and its evil power and not to take it for themselves. My two favorite characters of the series are an elf prince named Legolas, and Faramir, a captain of the kingdom of Gondor, both of which I find very fascinating and unique. Overall, the Lord of the Rings includes characters of many different kinds, which enhance the story even more, and also explains why I love
This scene from the Fellowship of the Ring movie shows that your are never alone; your friends will be there for you, especially in your time of need. In the movie the Two Towers, Arogorn, Legolas, and Gimli still looked for Merry and Pippen ( who were taken by Orcs) even though they were told that Merry and Pipen were most likely dead; they did not lose hope and ended up finding out that they were all right. This shows that true friends will never give up on you. In the movie the Two Towers, Gandalf got help for the people at Helms Deep, and they ended up defeating their attackers. This shows that most people will always come to help a neighbor in need.
It is possible that Tolkien created Sam because he liked Wiglaf very much. ‘’For Tolkien, Wiglaf was a truer hero than his master’’(Birzer
Sam did not want to enter into marriage yet, and she wanted to opportunity to become something bigger, where she could make a difference. My second reason for my prediction is because Sam wanted the opportunity to see more of the world before being wed off, and before she was led into a new life. “Sam didn’t want a husband, not really. In her heart of hearts, she wanted more. She just didn’t know what
One of the most important details in a friendship is to never leave or forsake the other. A friend is also loyal, for example in the movie Lord of the Rings, Froto and Sam Wise had a wonderful fellowship. They lived in peace and in one accord. Also in the movie, gandalf sent froto on a mission. Froto was scared and he didn’t want to go on the journey by himself.
