Dear Florence Nightingale, Nursing is dated back to 1873 where it all began because of you and so much has changed in these last 145 years. Nurses have gained more knowledge as they’ve worked and learned together along with social, political and economic changes that are factored into being a nurse. The nursing community has changed as well because back when you started nursing, no one would’ve ever thought people wanted to be a nurse since they all had criminal records, but now people see nurses very highly and respect them for what they do every day. Registered Nurse Jennifer J. Brokaw said, “Nurses have the potential to profoundly influence policy and politics on a global scale. It is the moral and professional obligation of nurses to be engaged in legislation that impacts their patients. When nurses influence the politics that improve the delivery of healthcare, they are ultimately advocating for their patients” (Brokaw). There is a lack of participation when it comes to nurses being involved with politics because they lack the awareness of what is happening, they have inadequate skills at times, and they have little opportunity for involvement because of their busy schedules. Despite the factors that limit the nursing profession’s impact on politics, nurses are still vital to the community when it comes to development and implementation of healthcare policies because like noted earlier, they are the biggest advocates when it comes to the health of their patients and the people throughout the country. “Any nurse can influence policy and politics by becoming active and assuming leadership positions within the healthcare system or contacting elected officials about legislation affecting the industry …show more content…

Many nurses tend to have the same views and most people would try to refrain from posting on social media about things that could be conflicting with their professional life, but if an employer were to see something on their nurse’s social media that they didn’t like, they could fire them and take away their license. Nurses should always remember to avoid unprofessional behavior and breaches of patient privacy and confidentiality (2018) because they could get their license taken and be without a job very quickly. Social media is becoming a very common issue among all professions because some people don’t know when to stop posting things that could affect their everyday
