Flipped, is a movie about a girl and a boy’s relationship grows, much like a tree grows. Bryce and Juli show the best and worst of both worlds. This movie is about the values needed for a friendship like loyalty, compassion and love and how simple things like ignorance, peer pressure and growing up can get in the way of that. In the movie Bryce is a coward. He was always scared, like when he wouldn’t eat the eggs or talk to Juli about them and standing up to his dad and best friend about being a jerk to Juli and her family. He was so scared, he couldn’t even tell Juli what he really felt for her. His decisions were always peer pressured or influenced by others. His dad is his biggest influence like when they first moved from across Juli’s
Humans are funny creatures. We judge and classify others and ourselves into groups. We tear apart others esteem to feel stronger. And we put limits on ourselves, whether they are thought up by our imagination or other’s. The truth is, we aren’t perfect, but we can become better, that is, if we choose to. Benchwarmers captures that thought perfectly. Though it is a comedy, and a very hilarious one at that, it provides some very true points to consider. Benchwarmers is a great movie to watch because within this side-splittingly funny movie, there are important messages such as: bullying is a double edged sword, stereotypes can be overcome, and that diversity is what makes life exciting.
As a child, Wes looked up to his father, (Westley), with wide eyes and a deep longing to become just like him. Alongside his father, his half-sister Nikki also played an inspiring role in Wes’s young life. Nikki’s biological father, (Bill), held a fake desire for her throughout her childhood. After Wes’s father’s death, their family dynamic shifted, potentially for the worse. Nikki seemed to be engulfed through the flame of his death more than anyone. Tragically, it was as if Nikki “had lost two fathers that day” (Moore 15). To both Wes and his father, Nikki was an equal part of the family despite the different backgrounds. Ultimately Greg is able to remain optimistic, despite the animosity within his family. Greg expresses how his confidence is affected by saying to his younger sister Sharlene, “Maybe if I was like you Dad would like me better.” Greg seems to envy that Sharlene has it easier with their family than he does, but doesn’t consider changing to be what his father wants. He hates the idea that his family is disappointed in him and doesn’t want to let them
Also, it is evident that each character seems to run away due to the insecurities that they faced as children. Dunstan ran from his guilt, Percy for his status and ego, and Paul from his challenges as a misfit. Each seemed to wander like nomads throughout their lives, while these insecurities where never faced or challenged so they could change their point of view. It was what seemed to be instilled within them, the theory that the first five years of childhood shape the personalities of individuals. This is certainly evident in the novel, from the beginning to the end.
His brother, Tony, was a drug dealer who wished he could go back in time and make the right decisions and he wanted Wes to be different than him. He didn’t want his brother to end up like him, and even after he tried everything to keep Wes away from drugs, nothing worked and he gave up. As you can see, both families are very different, Wes (the author) has a family who wants him to have a bright future. Most importantly, a family who responds fast because right after his mother saw him falling down the wrong hill, she didn’t hesitate to do something about it. The other Wes isn’t as lucky, as I believe, since his mother already had so much pressure over keeping her job and her son Tony being involved in drugs.

The film sets out to prove the government, and food industry is knowingly causing an increase in the amount of obese children. It reserves its most critical comments for government advisory panels who make and enforce food and health policy, and its failure to properly regulate the food industry. In the documentary “Fed Up,” sugar is responsible for Americas rising obesity rate, which is happening even with the great stress that is set on exercise and portion control for those who are overweight. Fed Up is a film directed by Stephanie Soechtig, with Executive Producers Katie Couric and Laurie David. The filmmaker’s intent is mainly to inform people of the dangers of too much sugar, but it also talks about the fat’s in our diets and the food corporation shadiness. The filmmaker wants to educate the country on the effects of a poor diet and to open eyes to the obesity catastrophe in the United States. The main debate used is that sugar is the direct matter of obesity. Overall, I don’t believe the filmmaker’s debate was successful.

This is a documentary about several children who live in poverty and dream of going to America in order to be reunited with their biological parents, or simply to seek out a better life for themselves. The way that the children are getting to America is by riding a train known as “La Bestia” (The Beast) throughout Mexico and ultimately arriving at the border with the United States. The movie Shock Doctrine revolves around the concept of the same name. The film begins by discussing psychological research on the effects of shock therapy. It is evident that a person under extreme stress and anxiety commonly experienced during a crisis functions and performs inadequately. It is noted that the studies are conducted by a man by the name of Milton Friedman, from the University of Chicago; the studies took place in the past, and some of the subjects are still recovering in the aftermath. From this research, interrogation techniques were learned and the concept of the shock doctrine was formed. Essentially through causing a crisis, the population of a country can be shocked into complying with accepting laws that favors the United States and capitalism. This theory coexists with Friedman’s belief in that government regulation is bad, and through a crisis a country would better itself with deregulation. The video uses Chile as an example and shows how America allowed a crisis to occur in Chile, through coups, interrogations and subterfuge. In the end a new government is formed that allows capitalism. Unfortunately afterwards violence and riots occur, as the rich gain most of the wealth and poverty rises. In addition to Chile, Argentina, Russia and even Iraq underwent the shock doctrine. Almost in every account, poverty rises and violence ends up erupting. The movie ends by showing how the US was in the process of the shock doctrine, and still is but the population has taken notice. Protests such as Occupy Wall Street are some of the initiatives necessary to bring awareness to the problems of class inequalities in order to prevent capitalism from benefitting the rich and increasing the wealth gap among the classes.
The movie I decided to analyze for this course was American History X (1998), which stars Edward Norton. Though this movie isn’t widely known, it is one of the more interesting movies I have seen. It’s probably one of the best films that depict the Neo Nazi plague on American culture. The film takes place from the mid to late 1990’s during the Internet boom, and touches on subjects from affirmative action to Rodney King. One of the highlights of this movie that really relates to one of the key aspects of this course is the deterrence of capital punishment. Edward Norton’s portrayal as the grief stricken older brother who turns to racist ideologies and violence to cope with his fathers death, completely disregards the consequences of his actions as he brutally murders someone in front of his family for trying to steal his car. The unstable mentality that he developed after his father’s death really goes hand-to-hand specifically with Isaac Ehrlich’s study of capital punishment and deterrence. Although this movie is entirely fictional, a lot of the central themes (racism, crime punishment, gang pervasiveness, and one’s own vulnerability) are accurate representations of the very problems that essentially afflict us as a society.
Hocus Pocus is a 1993 film directed by Kenny Ortega. It is a very enjoyable movie with a good cast. The movie genre is comedy, horror, and fantasy. The film is based on a story about Garris and David Kirchner. And it is starring Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker. The story follows the villainous trio of witches, who are inadvertently resurrected by a teenage male virgin. It takes place in Salem, Massachusetts.
The film, Missing directed by Costa-Gavras, brings to life the paranoia and suspense that resonated from the Chilean military coup d’état in 1973. Through its interpretation of the dramatic overthrow, the film brings forth the darker themes of the era such as the mistreatment of the public, the intricate web of information having to do with the American involvement, and the information withheld by the authorities about missing persons.
