Fish is a book about the importance of a good attitude in the workplace. The book stresses that you must choose your attitude each day that you go to work. Attitude was at the center of the book’s message, but it was only a part of that message. There were four steps in the fish philosophy of a happy workplace: choose your attitude, play, make their day, and be present. Choose your attitude tells the reader that you must choose what you are going to make of each day. If you go to work unhappy you will make everyone else around you unhappy and your time there all the much longer. If you go to work happy and looking forward to the day, others will be happy and your time there will go by faster. The second step is play. You can bring fun into almost any job. The benefits of having the play step in the workplace are enormous. The employees will be happy, the customers will enjoy the atmosphere, and it will make everyone’s life a little bit easier. Third in the fish philosophy is “make their day.” Including customers in the fun and games will create happy, satisfied customers. The final step in the philosophy is to be present. You must be fully present at work for your fellow employees as well as the customers. Being fully present includes making the customer your number one priority. The message that I got from the book is that if you follow the fish philosophy you will have a more productive workplace that you will enjoy coming to each day.

Like many in the world, people sometimes have too much guilt with them, and this guilt leads to people being sad and depressed and sometimes even confused on a certain topic. In “The Isabel Fish” by Julie Orringer Sage is very mean to his sister because of his depression caused by his guilt. Later they both admit their guilt and make peace. Even though initially Sage believes Maddy is responsible for Isabel’s death, as he is exposed to a taste of his own medicine he begins to realize both himself and Maddy are living with too much guilt, and ultimately comes to see that it’s better if they both move on.
With the ability to control its stock and see at a glance how any store is performing, Wal-Mart is able to keep its finger on the pulse of its business and make critical adjustments as necessary. The low transportation costs it achieves with its own transportation system makes it possible to deliver goods to different stores within or under 48 hours, and transportation costs are only 3% of the total costs, as compared with 5% for their competitors ("Wal-Mart 's Supply Chain Management Practices: The Benefits Reaped"). Its advanced methods of transport, This combination of technology and down-home attention to customers as people makes Wal-Mart hard to beat on any soil, and it uses the winning formula to maximum advantage.
“Just show me the tackle and give me some bait. Then watch me go fishing, the rest can wait.” Fishing is one of my favorite things to do. It is catching a fish for either food or simply for fun. You can do it by yourself to enjoy the peace and quiet or fish with others to pass the time. Many people think fishing is an old man's sport but I think of it differently. It has helped to form my values, most importantly patience.
Using the concepts of flow from Csikszentmihalyi, these authors hypothesized that by experiencing flow at work would create a positive leadership role, which would eventually lead to a great satisfaction in their job (Smith, Koppes, and Vodanovich). When a person is satisfied with their job, they are more likely to be organized and perform to their greatest capability. Some researchers have attempted to use flow to measure the relationship between the usage of flow and the attitudes of the employees while doing their job. The more an employee uses flow in their day-to-day work life, the happier the employee will be in the well-being of life (Fullagar and Kelloway). Using psychological flow in everyday work life has been proven to be extremely beneficial in creating a happy employee that is satisfied with the work that he or she is doing. Researcher Bakker has said that while experiencing flow, a person should feel an intense feeling of accomplishment and fulfilment, just while performing the task that they are expected to do everyday in their jobs (Bakker). Contrary to Csikszentmihalyi’s definition of flow, researcher Bakker (2008) defines “flow as the experience of complete absorption, enjoyment, and intrinsic motivation.” This definition is different from Csikszenmihalyi’s because of Bakker’s lack of focus on one specific task at hand. Csikszenmihalyi’s definition of flow is more precise for completing a task that requires stress as to where Bakker’s is a broad sense of satisfaction when completing any task. Having many different researchers offer their perspective of psychological flow is
Salmon Farming If you recently ordered salmon off the menu of your favorite restaurant, or purchased it from your local grocery store, chances are it was farmed. According to “Salmon of the Americas, an organization of salmon-producing companies in Canada, Chile and the United States, 70 percent of the salmon produced in British Columbia and Washington comes from salmon farms. If it weren’t for these farms, we would not have the luxury and abundance of this delicious and healthy food available to us year round. Salmon farming represents one very important way to feed the world and people want to eat more salmon and seafood- more than can be caught.
How does managerial planning for Project Impact take place at different levels within the organization?
In “ Invisible Man,” the narrator betrayed his own beliefs in front of the people when he
A person’s behavior at one specific point in time usually controls their attitude at that time. Managers must be able to understand these basic needs of their workers. If these needs are not dealt with in a certain correct way than workers will not reach their maximum potential. If the lower order of needs is not met than people are not happy. The same can be said of the higher order.
Fishing has been used for ages for many things like food, sport, and just for amusement of the chase; because of this, many different techniques have been developed from the centuries fishing been constructed. Also fishing can be a purpose for life just like what Henry David Thoreau said “Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after”. Everyone has issues in their life and fishing can help with it in many forms. Over all the years love of fishing has grown and, many different types have emerged such as fly-fishing, saltwater, and freshwater fishing. Also there are many different styles of fishing to the different types from baits to the rod. Because, of the constant demand and love for fishing, salt water fishing has become a growing industry along the coast of America, and saltwater fishing provide a recreational sport for many, but it can require boat access and the correct license and fishing equipment.
It is important that employees do not fear for their jobs, are stressed of their tasks and their deadlines, etc. Employee happiness should be one of the most important topics for any organizations. If they are happy, they are more likely to focus on their own tasks, work hard, and create a good environment. If they are stressed they are more likely to make mistakes and influence the environment
I have chosen to compare the celebrations of New Year between Uzbekistan and Great Britain. New Year is celebrated around the world, but differently, because every country has its own traditions and the styles for celebrating holidays. In Uzbekistan people always wait for New Year and like to celebrate the holiday. Especially children like the holiday very much. The snowman and snow girl come and bring various gifts for children who learn a poem by heart. In Great Britain New Year begins on 25th December. In our country the real New Year is celebrated in March. It is called Navruz. In Muslim religion New Year should be celebrated on the 21st march. In ancient period 13rd January the prayers of Christian, the population of UK used to celebrate
According to Filipino folklore, circles symbolize future good luck and riches. No matter what we wear, though, New Year signifies a new beginning. Flipping open a fresh calendar, with its 12 pristine, as-yet-unmarked months, is perhaps one of the most universally hopeful acts we humans perform: finally, a chance to shrug off a year’s worth of worries, conflicts, and
Though many countries and their people may have big celebrations on New Year’s Eve, there is something about the traditional Russian way that makes it so amazing to experience.
The Chinese New Year is fifteen days long and each day involves a different custom based off of a different ideology such as cleaning your house will wipe away the bad luck of the preceding year. Halloween although originating in Ireland, was carried to other countries and is now often seen as an equivalent to the popular Day of the Dead Celebration in Mexico. Although, Day of the Dead is about celebrating dead loved ones, the act of dressing up in costumes happens in both celebrations. Halloween follows the ideology that children dress up in costumes and go collect candy from people’s houses whereas day of the dead is centered around the ideology that for one night dead loved ones can be reunited with their families. Easter and the popular Jewish holiday Passover are often seen as the same thing because they fall around the same thing and both celebrate spring. All around the world countries celebrate independence days that are on different days but they all represent relatively the same thing. But, different countries hold different ideologies for their independence days. For
