Starting college, getting your fist job and receiving your first pay check is the start the independence and adulthood. Those first feelings are pivotal. How to forget the day you received your first pay check. The magical feeling of independence, leadership and adulthood are unforgettable. My first pay check is probably the only exact amount of money I will forever remember. The anxiety of not knowing the exact amount you earned, yet knowing what you will be spending it on amazing. Receiving my first pay check is such a pivotal moment for me because for the first time I felt independent, proud and satisfied. My first job was at a grocery store I was excited of meeting new people, making friends, gaining experience, but most importantly was excited to earn my own money. My pay rate was nine ten and pay day was every Friday. The first day I worked was on a Sunday afternoon in which I worked a heavy eight hour shift from eight in the early morning to four in the calm afternoon. It was a very productive day I did many go-backs, the hourly …show more content…
store sweeps, and my favorite carts. That day I learned almost all my job duties which for me was easy money. At the end of the day, I came home exhausted, but excited to know I was earning my own money. As the days went go by, I learned, I made friends and got more comfortable. The following Tuesday I did an easy six hour shift, I opened so it was even easier. That Tuesday’s day at work went by quick and easy. I came home great, counting down my days and hours for my first pay check. That Tuesday I made a goal to eat breakfast at Ihop with mom the following Saturday after getting my pay check on Friday. My anxiety for my first pay check began to grow. Thinking of the fresh cold orange juice and the soft buttermilk pancakes from Ihop made me at that moment run to McDonalds and buy a breakfast deluxe just to kill a bit my anxiety. On Wednesday once again I did a heavy eight hour shift. Even though it was tiring I finished learning many of my duties. I met many people in other departments who were very interesting. I learned that after completing a certain number of hours you have the opportunity to promote to a higher position, of course if available and if wanted. I also learned that the pay rate is up to twenty-four dollars an hour depending your department. Finding these interesting facts made me realize that this grocery store can be more than just a part-time job. As the days passed, my anxiety grew and with it many feelings. Thursday came one day before getting my first pay check I walked in the store working an easy four hour shift. It went by really quick and since it was busy the time flew by. I asked one of my co-workers if tomorrow being Friday would be pay day to make sure. She said yes and explained to me how I would get it and how I would cash it. In that moment I put more energy into my work smiling and asking customers if they needed anything. That unforgettable Friday finally came.
An easy four hour day of work was coming. As I walked into the store I felt the excitement of the employees. I calmly start the day excited and anxious. I start talking to people and co-workers. As the hours past, my excitement slowly grew. After my two easy hours I took my ten minute break, I walk to break room and sit calculating my hours and money. Ten o’clock it was, I walk firmly up to the front desk and ask the manager if I can leave and get my paycheck. She calmly responded yes and hands me my check. As I am walking to a register to cash it I would feel the excitement running through me. I handed it to the cashier she does her work and tell me “here you go” with a big smile on her face. At that moment I felt like I had earned my own money feeling proud, satisfied, and independent. Right then and there I felt like I owned the whole world. I came home happy finally feeling
independent. The next day early in the morning I wake up my mom. Got ready and headed to IHOP. As we sat eating out soft buttermilk pancakes she asks me how I felt about my job I remember responding to her satisfied mom with a smiling at her. She started giving me advice my future and how money whether we like it or not keeps us moving. We left with an enjoyed quality time and breakfast. My first pay check was a pivotal moment in my life for the first time I had worked for my own money. At that particular moment I felt independent, proud and satisfied for that simple piece of paper I had worked for a whole week. It was my first time working to earn a pay check something I would be doing for the rest of my life. After receiving my first pay check I learned to work hard for what I want, value what I buy and become a responsible adult.
Started out - I don’t remember what I started out but I was making $2.10 there at that time, and that was good wages for back then cause I didn’t start making that again until after I left up there and come back here.
I used to work at my local McDonalds for three years during high school. At first, I thought I was there just to make an extra quick buck to fund my weekend adventures, but later would turn into a key cog at the store as the crew trainer and starting to be prepped for a managerial spot. It was exciting, learning how to place orders for the store, make the work schedule and cycle counts among other things. Soon however, I started to realize how replaceable my coworkers a...
I was so excited that I was finally going to have a job. I was a little nervous about the job interview, but that was a piece of cake. The interview lasted only about five minutes. An easy question here and an easy one there, and before I knew it I was the new game technician at Peter Piper Pizza. I was so happy once the interview was over; I was telling everyone that I had just got a job. Right after the interview me any my mom went and got me my food handlers card. ...
I guess today is another thrilling day, and this morning I wake up at 4 o’clock in the morning to get ready to work by 5 am. My brother Thorn and I walked there and we were a bit late today. And I didn’t even have any breakfast. Once we got there, we started to work immediately. Then someone stared at me. It was the man in the uniform. He yelled at me just because I whispered to the other person sitting next to me then I saw some kids playing in the street and I felt very disappointed and jealous. Why I can’t go out side and play in the street like these kids but I guess that’s part of life. We usually get two breaks during the day, Lunch and dinner. But today I didn’t get any break. And I have to work straight though it. I’m starving and my hands are very sore. I usually have to work 14 hours a day but since Thomas Edison invented the light bulb I only have to work for 10 hours. And finally my work is done and it’s 5pm. My wage is 20 cents a day but most of the boys who are younger than me get 25cent per day or even 30cents per day. I don’t know why but my parents say that I have to work or we have to live on the streets
I have worked in a shop, dealing with the day-to-day running of the business, attending to customers' needs and handling money, which has been a good introduction to the world of work and its demands - punctuality, reliability and honesty.
Have you ever been employed in a factory? If so, at what age did you start?
I consider that a great accomplishment even though the majority of people my age have jobs and consider it easy to obtain one. My parents were never too keen on me getting a job, but I did it anyway because I felt it was time for me to take on that responsibility. It was a part-time position at a frozen yogurt shop. I recall feeling as if my heart was going to burst out of my chest during the interview, but I tried to keep my composure. It did not go terribly as I assumed it would. I came out feeling ten times more confident than I felt going into the job. Shortly after, I was told I began in a
It started like any day, I went to school and my mom went off to finish her college degree so she could get a real paying job for once unlike all her other jobs. She has worked at places like Mickey D’s and Tim Hortons and other trashy places. My dad always goes out to different interviews, but doesn’t get any jobs or else I probably wouldn’t be telling you this story right now. School was stinky (Obviously). I would get
That summer after school I just wanted to find a job and start making some money. Going to college for anther four year was something I thought I could not handle. I final got a job at UPS unloading trucks. At first I thought how hard could it be? But every day I would come home exhausted from working in the heat. And then when I got tiny pay check, it hit me. From then on I decided that manual labor was something that I could not do the rest of my life and I could definitely not support a family on that income. A job behind a desk in the air conditioning was what I wanted.
One day I was talking to my friend on Skype and we were discussing the new Call of Duty game that was coming out. I was excited to get it as a Christmas present, he had pre ordered it. I asked “Where did you get the money for the game” he told me that he makes 120 dollars a weekend reffing little league soccer. I couldn't believe it, 120 dollars for six hours of my time every weekend. I immediately asked my mom to sign me up for the reffing certification class; she thought it was good that I was getting a job that paid that well for such a little amount of time.
I worked for a friend once, and I thought it was the best decision I had ever made. The job was going to be babysitting her kids as often as she needed. Not just one or two kids, but three children, of various ages. I was a little anxious because it was my first job after high school, but I was excited to get started. Without having any experience with kids, I thought to myself , “How simple it was going to be babysitting three kids” I was wrong. It was difficult, and I gave up so much of my time for this friend without getting much in return. Choosing to babysit a friends children caused so many problems. I would have never imagined my first job experience being so dreadful. Working for a friend was a discouraging experience, because I did not have
It was my job for two summers, and was a great, exciting first job. One of the aspects that was very neat about it was the fact that I started it once school got out for the summer, and then once school started back up at the end of the summer I stopped working so I could put all my focus into school. I was primary weed eater for my first summer, simply because I was the newest guy on the job and also the youngest. I didn’t enjoy this near as much as I did mowing, but it taught me a lot about what hard work. We mowed a really big trailer park every other week, and I was in charge of weedeating the whole thing. I had to weedeat around all the pipes and poles sticking out of the ground, and although there was a bunch of those I didn’t really mind that part of the job much. However, the part of this that I absolutely hated was that I had to weedeat two or three decent size hills that were too steep to get a mower on. The worst part of this was that it was a job that couldn’t be done in the morning because the steep hills would be too slippery from the dew, so usually I would have to wait until the extreme heat of midday. This was one of the hardest things I had ever done before, and I truly hated it. However, because it was one of the hardest things I have ever done, it taught me what hard work really was. It taught me how to work hard, and showed me the rewards of my hard work through my paycheck
I was only seventeen when I started working. I lived in a very small city that I downtown area full of different stores. During the summer times, most of the stores downtown would post job listings looking for young individuals who wanted to work during the summer season. I decided that I wanted to gain some work experience and decided to apply in one of the stores. The store I worked in was called Kid City; it was a clothing store for children. I enjoyed the job I had in the beginning; all I did was open up boxes and placed the clothes in the racks so the store associates could hang them up on the store racks. I enjoyed the job because I did not have to deal with the customers that came into the store. However, I was then moved to the front of the store to
As far back as I could remember, I was always in a rush to grow up and be responsible. I was about thirteen when I realized I wanted a job, so I could have my own money. I’d even fill out applications online, lying about my age but it never worked. A few birthdays went by and I was celebrating my sixteenth birthday and a few weeks later; I received my first retail job. My very first job was at a popular teen store called Aeropostale. I learned and experienced a lot working there and made friends as well. Although, I got what I desired, I often had uncertainties once I really got the feel for the part-time position. In life, people leave and things change and by the end of my employment, I would soon look back and realize it.
While I was in high school my friend and I decided to get a job for the summer. We applied at a local fast food restaurant and we were both hired. We started our training right away along with several other people this being a new restaurant. The manager was very nice and liked to have fun, which made this job actually enjoyable. Things were going good when we heard that the area manager was going to come to see how the new store was performing. The crew was introduced to John, Area Manager, who began coming on a daily basis. This is when the chaos began.
