Learning Patience and Responsibility at Hell's Pizza
Even the job from hell can teach you patience and responsibility. When you hear the name Peter Piper Pizza, you may think a fun family restaurant. When I hear Peter Piper Pizza I get chills down my spine. Having worked there for about two years, I started to get annoyed over every little thing that was a part of my job. I had the worst position that they had, Game Technician. When I first applied for the job, the game guy was going to be the easiest job that I could find. Little did I know that this position taught me the more about being patient and responsible than any other experience I have had.
It was mid sophomore year of high school when I started the job hunt. I applied to many places, grocery stores, restaurants, and even the movie theaters. No reply from any of them. It was about a month and a half when Bob from Peter Piper Pizza called me up looking for new employees.
“Hey this is Bob from Peter Piper Pizza, is this Brandon” Bob asked.
“Yes it is” I replied.
“How would you like to come in and work for us at Peter Piper Pizza” asked Bob?
“I would love to,” as I smiled with a huge grin on my face.
“Well ok I will see you tomorrow for your interview” Bob stated.
“Ok see you there” I said.
I was so excited that I was finally going to have a job. I was a little nervous about the job interview, but that was a piece of cake. The interview lasted only about five minutes. An easy question here and an easy one there, and before I knew it I was the new game technician at Peter Piper Pizza. I would deal with this working environment every day. With so much responsibility and work to complete, my manager would sometimes think that it was fine if I would work the oven on my shift. So now I have to hand out all of the prizes, fix any broken game and ones that were acting up, hand out lost tokens to customers, get the pizza out of the oven to cut it and call it over the intercom to the customers.
Working this job for nearly two years, it made me significantly more responsible and taught me many things about being patient. Having to deal with many different things at once, I learned how to balance things and take duties one step at a time and not get overwhelmed. This job was like taking a two year class on how to be responsible and be patient when difficulties are stacking up against you.
Although I was the youngest employee in our department, my coworkers treated me as an equal. I was part of the team that must work together in a fast pace, quick turn-around time to meet deadlines and occasionally working long hours finishing reports. It was the type of jobs that can make or break anyone brave enough to endure, and I am grateful for the experience. While employed in this job, I also grew as a person. I learned integrity is everything in regards to human interactions, as well as self-respect and respect for my co-workers. I learned to value time and prioritize my daily tasks. At the same time, I learned to be ready for any wrench thrown my way. The gradual maturity I gained at KPMG rises above all else. These are lifelong lessons I take with me every day of my life, and most importantly, these are the values that will not be taken away from
Day after day, I work at Home Depot. I’ve worked at Home Depot for 6 months. My position there is a cashier. A few months have gone by and all I do is show up and do my job as a cashier. The cashiers have someone who runs the front end along with every register in the store, and that person is a head ashier. After what I see the head cashiers go through, I would never want to be a head cashier for the rest of my life.
Although I was nervous because I had never done anything like this before, I had only been accustomed to cutting grass or construction jobs with my dad that only involved nailing wood and sheets of plywood. I worked for Frank for about a year and a half before I had to quit. I missed California too much, including the warm air, the smell of the dairies, and the ocean breeze. I moved back and lived with my dad. I have had a few jobs in my life that didn't last very long, either because the timing wasn't right or for other reasons.
I selected to job shadow my mom actually because I couldn’t find anyone to shadow in the career that I wanted, so my only other choice was to do my mom. I wasn’t really too interested in doing that job at first, but that’s what I needed to do. I spent my day watching and helping my mom checking out stock systems and how it works. I was also able to use the office equipment. I wore nice black pants with a nice sweater. We left the building for lunch, and went somewhere else to eat, like my mom does a lot of the time. During the interview, I asked her the questions, and she answered, explaining as she went along, and I was not able to catch it all. So I learned a whole lot about the job by doing the interview. I left at about 2:00 to 3:00 (I am not too sure exactly when) because my mom had some important work she needed to do, that I really couldn’t help with. My favorite experience that day was actually finding out how stocks work, saving money, and information like that.
ADHD is an exceedingly real diagnosis for many children in the United States. Are we over diagnosing our little ones just to keep from dealing with unpleasant behavior? “ On average 1 of every 10 to 15 children in the United States has been diagnosed with the disorder, and 1 in every 20 to 25 uses a stimulant medication” (Mayes, Bagwell, & Erkulwater, 2008). Several believe that virtually all ADHD diagnoses are retractable with appropriate discipline of children instead of being so hasty in medicating them. The material found on the CDC website describes facts about ADHD, it clarifies the signs, symptoms, types, causes, diagnosis tools, and treatment forms of ADHD. What the article neglects to go into is the reality that there is a considerable amount of controversy surrounding ADHD. The CDCs usage of ethos, pathos, and logos and by what method the website manipulates them to affect the reader will be the basis of this paper.

Before treating children, physicians must look for a coexisting conditions which could affect the diagnosis and treatments of ADHD. Parents and children should aid their physicians by using the support of their community and the resources of their school (Withrow et al., 2011). Physicians should take several courses of action: educating the parents and patients, monitoring patients for the emergence and severity of side effects, and evaluating the treatment each year. Pharmacotherapy, or therapy using pharmaceutical drugs, is another accepted way for physicians to treat children with ADHD. The documents says that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approves certain drugs for the treatment of ADHD (Withrow et al., 2011). The list of approved drugs include the psychostimulants D- and DL-methylphenidate, atomoxetine, amphetamine, dextroamphetamine, and a noradrenergic reuptake inhibitor (Withrow et al., 2011). To see if a child’s behavior demonstrates the symptoms of ADHD, an analysis of that child’s behavior is needed. According to this document, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) emphasises classroom behavioral interventions and parental training in behavioral therapy (Withrow et al., 2011). Over the past decade years 200 victims have fallen due to school shootings. These numbers don’t even justify for the number of people killed in years prior to the 2000’s. Though these numbers don’t justify for the numbers of students injured or killed with other weapons, school safety is becoming a topic of discussion. As time goes on, people are bringing more attention to the subject of school safety. With the numerous school shootings in various states, lack of security in schools, and not enforcing rules for the students schools are becoming less safe.
Disturbingly over two-thirds of children are given some type of medication over a two week period. Children with ADHD are being medicated without needing it. The question many researchers are asking is, “Is that patient really in need for the medication given?”
The demanding nature of the work has given me an added sense of responsibility but also of pride, fulfilment, and greater appreciation for hard work, ultimately making me more mature and dependable.
It was my job for two summers, and was a great, exciting first job. One of the aspects that was very neat about it was the fact that I started it once school got out for the summer, and then once school started back up at the end of the summer I stopped working so I could put all my focus into school. I was primary weed eater for my first summer, simply because I was the newest guy on the job and also the youngest. I didn’t enjoy this near as much as I did mowing, but it taught me a lot about what hard work. We mowed a really big trailer park every other week, and I was in charge of weedeating the whole thing. I had to weedeat around all the pipes and poles sticking out of the ground, and although there was a bunch of those I didn’t really mind that part of the job much. However, the part of this that I absolutely hated was that I had to weedeat two or three decent size hills that were too steep to get a mower on. The worst part of this was that it was a job that couldn’t be done in the morning because the steep hills would be too slippery from the dew, so usually I would have to wait until the extreme heat of midday. This was one of the hardest things I had ever done before, and I truly hated it. However, because it was one of the hardest things I have ever done, it taught me what hard work really was. It taught me how to work hard, and showed me the rewards of my hard work through my paycheck
I was only seventeen when I started working. I lived in a very small city that I downtown area full of different stores. During the summer times, most of the stores downtown would post job listings looking for young individuals who wanted to work during the summer season. I decided that I wanted to gain some work experience and decided to apply in one of the stores. The store I worked in was called Kid City; it was a clothing store for children. I enjoyed the job I had in the beginning; all I did was open up boxes and placed the clothes in the racks so the store associates could hang them up on the store racks. I worked at Aerpostale for over two years and had never gotten a promotion, I guess with so much chaos going on no-one grew. So, in a sense it made my life a bit miserable but I wouldn’t change anything that happened because everything happens for a reason. My first job really taught me a huge lesson and it opened my eyes to the realization that everyone comes and goes and that’s just how the business is. Everyone is replaceable and company’s don’t really care about the well-being of their staff. I can say that after all of the nonsense and two years of experience, I have a new job that I am proud of. In the middle of June, I saw they were looking for bus waitress, since I was looking for a job so I asked Ms Ling - the gaffer of the waiters and waitress - to hold the position for me until after my graduation. And a week later as expected I became a?waitress?in the A Hong Hong kong & Vietnamese restaurant.
