Recommended: Concept of financial intermediaries
Financial intermediaries are common across the entire financial world. A financial intermediary is an institution that borrows money from people who have saved and in turn makes loans to others, acting as a middleman between investors and firms raising money. Common institutions that conduct the intermediary actions are commercial banks, credit unions, insurance companies, mutual funds, and finance companies. These institutions are an integral part to the overall health and functionality of the world financial market.
Functions performed by financial intermediaries can be categorized into three functions; (1) maturity transformation, (2) risk transformation, and (3) convenience denomination. With maturity transformations, intermediaries convert short-term liabilities to long term assets. This conversion is common with banks and other institutions that provide liquidity for entrepreneurs, giving a short term debt a match with a long term loan. Rather than constantly evaluating short term loan options and rolling over the debt balance, a longer term commitment is able to be made that locks in a lower rate to benefit all parties. Additionally, intermediaries can provide risk transformation, which offer the ability to convert risky investments into relatively risk-free by lending to multiple borrowers to spread the risk. By pooling the funds of multiple investors, the intermediary – such as a mutual fund – inherently provides diversification and tolerance against a single investment producing undesirable results. Finally, convenience denomination is provided by an intermediary. With a large quantity of deposits being held at a financial intermediary, they are able to match small deposits with large loans, and larger deposit...

... the economy as a whole; it keeps the cycle of money flowing, investing in companies to fuel growth. When an intermediary grows as large as Berkshire ($113 billion market cap), caution must be placed on where the money is flowing. It can be easy for the intermediary to flirt with becoming a monopoly on certain markets or sectors due to the influx of investments and percentage of ownership. During an economic rebound, it is often easy to follow large intermediaries and expect them to “turn the tide” and drag the economy out of the slump. The danger arises when people begin to expect the silver bullet approach and start to focus solely on these large institutions; having this tunnel vision does not always allow for the fastest growth and/or recovery. Overall, with all aspects considered, Berkshire Hathaway as an intermediary is beneficial to the overall economy.
Accounting profit can serve as an alternative to intrinsic value. But Buffett states that “...we do not measure the economic significance or performance of Berkshire by its size; we measure by per-share progress.” Accounting reality was conservative, backward looking, and governed by GAAP (measures in terms of net profit), therefore Buffett rejects this alternative. According to the world’s most famous investor, investment decisions should be based on economic reality, not on accounting
Warren always wanted to be financial independent, working for himself and find a job where he would admire the people he is working with (Athanassakos). Following Graham’s value investing strategy, Warren bought the majority of Berkshire Hathaway stocks and took the position of Chairmen of the Board and CEO at Berkshire Hathaway (Smith). His investment philosophy and healthy leadership brought Berkshire Hathaway back on its feet and started a completely new era. Warren transformed this textile mill into a worldwide conglomerate, with revenues of over 162 billion dollars per year. Famous franchises, like Dairy Queen, Fruit of the Loom, automobile insurance GEICO, or Net Jets are daughter businesses of Berkshire Hathaway, all under the ownership of Warren Buffett

Offshore banking is the action of having a bank account outside of the country of residence. Since its start, offshore banking has become a considerably lucrative business. Many of those who take part in offshore banking are looking for a secure location to place their income or seize the opportunity of having lower taxes. However, there are those who misuse the privilege of a foreign bank and use the business ventures for illegal actions rather than the original purpose of the dealings. Offshore banks seem to have an impartial acceptance of quite a few clients within the bank that create a lower standard of ethics in contrast to the ethics meant to be held—this includes those of a political position. Furthermore, this has the potential to be detrimental to the economy.

“I've known people who had fantastic ideas, but who couldn't get the idea off the ground because they approached everything weakly. They thought that their ideas would somehow take off by themselves, or that just coming up with an idea was enough. Let me tell you something -- it's not enough. It will never be enough. You have to put the idea into action. If you don't have the motivation and the enthusiasm, your great idea will simply sit on top of your desk or inside your head and go nowhere”-Donald Trump. The stock market is just a place where people invest in others ideas for profit. If all stock brokers take a legal oath or some type of legal agreement then there will be fewer frauds will take place. Many stock brokers are trusted with huge amounts of money given by their clients willingly. Their clients give them this money in order for the stock broker to make more of it. Many clients give their money away without any form of documents, just word of mouth. Stock brokers should not be able to manage another’s person money without legal oath, legal document and a professional advisor present. With these check points in place the probability of unsuitability fraud, improper investment advice, hidden cost, over concentration and churning would be much less than it is right now.
