In the play Fences by August wilson at of all the characters, Cory is the one, who evolves the most throughout the play. At the start of the play he ask his father Troy if like him, showing that he want his father approval. Cory get a job at A&P which he then quits to follow his pipe dream of playing football in college shows him becoming more independent about his life choices. The most upbringing moment is seen when he get physical with his father Troy. Cory has demonstrate that he is not the little boy who is afraid of his father and who need his approval from the start of this play. He has shown that he is his own men and make his decision. This might seem like it only to defend rose but in reality it's also him fighting for his dream, the drew, that his father was so against of, this act of him standing up to Troy reflects his growth as a men and as person. He has tons of respect towards his father, but there's isn't much that they agree on. Cory towards the end of the play loses most of his respect towards this is seen when he states, “You ain't never gave me nothing but hold me back. Afraid that i was gonna be better than you….”(2.4.159). Cory has grown and seen the true colors of his father he's not the same kid from before who saw his as his role model, but now sees his father as a cheater and lier also a dream killer. Cory has grown to become his own man throughout the play, we see this first when he get a job at a&p but continues to play football without fathers permission. Him feeling the non approval of his father when he asks him if he likes him or not show where he's at in life at that point of the play. Cory physical argument with Troy show his growth as a person and men standing on his own, not needing the approval of his father.
