Feasibility Study of Starting a New Business
Introduction
This investigation will carry out a study to see if it would be
feasible to open a new nightclub, 'Sinners' in Maidenhead town centre.
Maidenhead is a small town in the southeast of England, located in the
county Berkshire. The nearest major city is London, which is located
twenty-five miles east of the town.
The reason I have chose to investigate this type of business venture
is because I take an interest in this type of business as I would like
to look into it in the future, and also feel Maidenhead possesses the
qualities, and provides a great opportunity to start up a business of
this nature and for it to be successful.
To find out whether this business venture would be feasible, a
feasibility study needs to be carried out covering all aspects
relating to starting up a new business. Several tools will have to
implemented to do so.
There are two main types of tools that will be used; these include
research tools and analysis tools. Firstly the primary research will
include interviews and questionnaires, and from this the information
needed such as demand levels and financial information will be
analysed to help with the final decision of the study. For secondary
research company account will be used, along with books, maps, and
Internet sites. All these sources will allow me to find out about the
local area of Maidenhead such as demographic information and
statistics. All this research will aid me in being able to make my
location decision.
There are several analytical tools that will be implemented, and these
will be marketing tools such as PEST analysis and SWOT analysis,
financial tools such as cash flow forecast and break-even analysis.
Then the final part of the report will be the analysis and conclusion,
to actually see if it is viable to open a nightclub as a business
venture in Maidenhead.
Secondary Research Objectives and methodology
Objective 1
The first is to decide where in Maidenhead Sinners is going to be
located. Research on the infrastructure and rent values in maidenhead
needs to be carried out so information can be gained on some of my
start up costs. Locations of direct competition (other nightclubs),
and indirect competitors (public houses/bars), which are located in
the area will be researched, so the best possible location can be
chosen in Maidenhead for Sinners.
Method
To find out information on land values in and around Maidenhead I will
visit the local town hall and pick up some local information booklets.
To find out about the local infrastructure and competitors of
Maidenhead, I will use the local Windsor and Maidenhead borough
However, I have worked as a tele-marketer here at the university soliciting funds from alumni and previo...
Intimate partner violence has been a significant issue for centuries in all countries. "Since 1974, nearly 2,600 spousal homicides have been recorded in Canada" (Bunge, 2002). Of these homicides, more than three-quarters have been against women. Although through feminism and the women's liberation movement, there has been a slight improvement in the incidences of violence against women, there has also been a drastic change in the perception of the issue by society. After reviewing the most recent literature on violence against women and victimization through intimate partners, it has become prevalent that there are now two crucial stances that are taken. The first position is that of the women being victimized as the main issue, including prevention, causes and incidences. The second position is that of women becoming more 'aggressive' and the issue of violence against both men and women. "Wife battering- the original problem constituted by the 1970s feminists- has morphed into 'domestic violence' and then into 'husband abuse'" (Minaker, 2006). This literature review will examine the background information on intimate partner violence including different arguments and perspectives, theories, and methodologies as well as discuss the major findings and future directions of research.
Violence has become prevalent within society; it is something the western world has learned to accept. With every minute that passes Canadians come face to face with certain acts of violence they may not have previously encountered (citation). Although, violence is not a subject that one can escape, women and children have unfortunately become the prime victims of violent acts. The media glorifies violence in other countries around the world it fails to address the presence of violence within Canada. Although violence is usually associated with gangs and guns, Canada experiences more violence related to bullying, sexual, verbal, cyber and domestic abuse (citation). Amidst the changing societal views towards treating women equally and eliminating objectification, of all these types of violence and abuse in our society, the most common still happens to be domestic abuse, which is mainly targeted at women and affects children. Domestic abuse is described as a form of abuse that takes place in the confines of the household (Citation). Though 51% of Canadians have said to have experienced or witnessed domestic abuse only 20% of those cases related to domestic violence are ever reported (citation). Domestic abuse has become more prevalent in modern society; however, it is an issue that is left un-noticed simply because its effects are invisible outside the walls of ones home. In reality the effects of domestic violence have severe negative effects on women, children and the social structure of today’s society. Without any notification of domestic violence the re precautions of this abuse can be dire. When an individual thinks of domestic abuse, their ideas quickly relate back to women, simply because women are the usual and most common victims of domestic violence. And therefore is an issue that must be resolved rather than ignored.
In the single year of 2009, there were 460,000 reported incidents of sexual assault against women in Canada (“Criminal Victimization in Canada” 1). Amnesty International once stated that aggression against women “is so deeply embedded in society that it often fails to garner public censure and outrage.” This is evidenced by the fact that only roughly 10% of all sexual assaults are revealed, and to exacerbate the circumstances, women are frequently repudiated, blamed, and dispensed apathetic or cruel manipulation (“Violence Against Women Information” 1). Women’s rights are constantly defiled through domestic violence, and yet it is still abounding and ubiquitous in developed countries. Indeed, every six days, a woman in Canada is brutally killed by the one whom she considered her loving male partner. With every year that passes, approximately 362,000 children are witness to violent parental episodes in Canada. Witnessing violence can disturb the development of children and can eventuate in

Have you ever walked into a store and notice that your favorite items are always at the end of the store or on the right side? Stores and businesses use different ways to target your ability as a shopper to get you to purchase more and frequent their stores more often than what you would normally do. Malcolm Gladwell and Charles Duhigg explain different shopping method in which stores and businesses use to get you to walk into their store and purchase items in which you need and don’t need. In Gladwell’s article of the “The Science of Shopping”, Gladwell explains with great analytical detail the strategies that stores and businesses use to bring in customers frequently and buy more products than what the customer actually needs. As well as Duhigg implements his ideas and the psychology of “ The Power of Habit” that trigger the process of cues and rewards that creates a habit that maybe hard to break. Vons uses Duhigg’s and Glagwell’s marketing techniques well to attract more customers into their store by using the tracking of recent purchase made by the customer to provide coupons for the customers next purchase.
Virtually every country in the world has been touched in some way by family violence. A vast number of women and children are subjected each day to violence within their family homes, the setting where they should feel the safest. Family violence crosses the boundaries of sex, age, social class, education, and race (1). Statistics show that approximately 1 in 3 women worldwide will be affected by family violence within her lifetime (1). Violence has a major impact on one's physical, social and mental well-being. Additionally, the health related costs connected to family violence in Canada account for 1.5 billion dollars per year (1). This number accounts for short-term medical problems, long-term treatment for psychological issues, lost time at work, as well as the use of women's shelters (1). In view of these statistics, it is evident that domestic violence is a major concern across the globe. Accordingly, this paper will examine the magnitude of family violence here in Canada, and will compare and contrast the situation with the United States, Australia, as well as India. In addition, solutions to the domestic violence problem in Canada will also be addressed.

find it difficult to set up a business and make it a success. This is
Starting a small business is often one of the hardest things a person can do. Some people start a business out of pure fascination, or even as a hobby. Whether starting a business for personal reasons or simply the grandeur to make loads of money, everybody needs to have a plan. Starting a small business is no easy task and can take days if not months to prepare. The most important aspect to have is the tempura and heart to start a small business, as without passion, no business can succeed. One has to be his or her own boss, make dream, reality and be willing to market and sell a product. It takes a lot of discipline, long hours and hard work, something many do not have. However with the right willingness, passion and dedication a business can be the start of something big.
For some people, being the boss, and which by boss I mean business owner, would be the greatest thing ever. Most think you get to pick your own hours, make the most money, and make everyone do the things you want done. Of course there is work involved and it takes work to make it but the rewards will be better owning a business that succeeds. The ultimate goal is becoming a millionaire and retiring at the age of forty and just drawing money from business production. However they really don’t understand the work it takes to make it a million dollar company. When these people are finally able to own a business they get a rude awakening. I am in no way trying to offend the typical business owner when I say, owning a business can be a challenging task that can cause many complications in your life and if you’re not careful they can change your life entirely.
Violence against women (VAW) is now considered and recognized as a public health predicament and a human rights infringement of a worldwide scale and force (Ono, 2013; Raj & Silverman, 2002). Research evidence exists for it serving as a crucial social determinant of health and its resulting vast and damaging impact on physical and mental health for women in Canada (Sharma, 2001). Violence as a concept includes diverse forms of abuse that are directed at women and girls across their lifetime. One critical category or form of violence against women is domestic violence. For the purpose of this paper terms violence against women and domestic violence will be used interchangeably. Domestic violence has been recognized as a critical social problem
I am gratified to reflect on my Entrepreneurial Potential Self-Assessment. I have always enjoyed learning the concepts of running and managing a business. Personally, what I enjoy generally is implying these concepts in real life situations. Seeing the ‘real life’ effects are stimulating to me. I always saw myself running a stable/well- establish business; however, I never saw myself running my own business. For my part, I find that I do not have all the characteristics an entrepreneur should have. Therefore, the results are not surprising, but assuring of what my strengths and weaknesses are.
