Parental fear of traffic
Parental behavior about children physical movement is one of the significant reasons for reducing children outdoor activities. Parents fear about road traffic risk and danger of stranger do not let children to attend in the society, and they never have an experience for their trips to school alone until they grow up. According to Sustrans research (2001), child fatalities by cars are 100 times more than stranger danger. Lack of sufficient roadway for pedestrians which can divide the pedestrian path from car path is main reasons for parents to prevent their kids from doing outdoor actives alone. Children physical activity also depends on the traffic condition. Heurlin-Norinder (1996) research has shown the result of traffic rate on parents fear; parents who live in high rate of traffic neighborhood have more concern than parents who live in less traffic area. ‘‘A downward spiral of fear can be created in response to road safety fears in which reductions in play, cycling and walking activities among children and young people can diminish the general social ac...
In this article written by the author Bruce Feiler, titled “Teenage Drivers? Be Very Afraid”, he talks about how he suggest the parents to stop being helicopter parents and allow their children to be independent. However, other professionals’ suggestions are the opposite when teenagers start to drive. As a result of the teenagers’ immaturity, the parents are told to be more involved because their child’s life may be in danger. As stated in the article by Nichole Moris “the most dangerous two years of your life are between 16 and 17, and the reason for that is driving.” There are various factors that play huge roles through this phrase of the teenagers’ life: other passengers, cellphones, and parents. In 2013, under a million teenage drivers were involved in police-reported crashes, according to AAA. The accidents could have been more but many teenage accidents go unreported. As a result, one of their recommendations to the parents is to not allow their children to drive with other passengers: other passengers can big a huge distraction and could increase the rate of crashes by 44 percent. That risk doubles with a second passenger and quadruples with three or more. Furthermore, as technology has taken over teenagers’ lives, the parents should suggest to those teenagers who insists on using the phones that the only safe place for it to be: in a dock, at eye level, on the dashboard. The worst place is the cup holder, the driver’s lap, and the passenger’s seat. Next, professionals also suggest that the parents implement their own rule and even continue the ones like the graduated driver’s licenses regulations. This regulation includes restrictions like not allowing their children to drive between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. To
Human transportation has always had an impact on the environment, with cars having arguably the largest impact. According to Superfreakonomics by Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner transportation immediately prior to the development of cars was entirely depended on horses and horse-drawn carriages. By the end of the 19th century, New York had around two-hundred-thousand horses roaming the streets. Each horse created around thirty-five pounds of feces per day. The introduction of cars was expected to provide a much cleaner solution to transportation; however, this was a misconception. In reality, according to Brandon Keim, writer for Nautilis, the late 19th and early 20th centuries were actually the age of street cars. These street cars were
Over the course of time. Street racing has been allowed in the main streets or highways with minimal surveillance or any consequences at all. It almost seemed like no one was taking action in what escalated into a huge problem this year of 2017. Luckily there is various ways to help minimize the negative affects it's having in these communities. A solution to what continues to concern many can be treated as a crime. As humans we know what's right from wrong and people tend to avoid situations that can be considered a crime. The seriousness of the consequences is what everyone fears, no one wants to have a bad record, they want to be “clean.”Another way this rebellious act can continue to decrease is by having strict life changing consequences, example if you get caught street racing then you will be charged with a conviction similar to a Dui.
In the words of Bertrand Russell, “Fear is the main source of superstition, and one of the main sources of cruelty. To conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom” (Russell). Fear causes many problems in our lives. Fear influences many of a person’s actions and decisions. However, people usually regret the decisions or actions they made out of fear. Also, these actions and decisions can cause problems for those people in their future. Fear is a harmful emotion, for it clouds people’s judgement, disables them from taking action, and causes them to make decisions that they will regret later.
Having speed limits can save a lot of lives, I definitely approve of making sure that drives operate their cars at a moderate speed. Imagine the fear of driving on the expressway and having a lot of cars zoom past you at a high rate of speed. Limits on speed should be enforced for several reasons. All cities need speed limits because going over the speed limit can have a lot of negative outcomes. It can increase the number of tickets, cause accidents, and reduce safety in our neighborhoods.
Imagine that you’re a parent and your child has gone to the movies with a couple of friends, but it’s almost twelve o’clock and your child hasn’t responded to calls or text messages from you. You start to panic because your child could be hurt, lost, somewhere they are not suppose to be, or in danger. If you had installed a GPS tracking device in your child’s car, you would be able to know exactly where they are and how fast they are going no matter if they call or text you back. This is why I believe that every parent should be permitted to installing a tracking device in their child’s car.
Truck driving is a difficult job which requires great responsibility of transferring the goods from one place to other far place with proper safety. Genuine CDL training is required by every aspiring truck driver to attain essential skills as a professional driver. These training programs are meant not only help the students learn about the possible ways to handle and manage their trucks in most adverse traffic and weather conditions, but also, this training helps them to learn how to prevent any major loss of the goods during the transference.
I received a speeding ticket on Sunday April 22, 2018 at 1:31 pm while on my way home from Canada where I had spent a few days out of my school vacation week (April 15-21). I was pulled over on the I-90 E Interstate Highway for reportedly driving 85 in a 65-mile zone. I figured I was speeding but was completely unaware of the actual speed I was driving prior to getting pulled over. Prior to Sunday’s offense, I was never issued a speeding ticket and only did so moments after being switched out to drive by a friend who accompanied myself and sister on our vacation trip at the service station a few miles away from where I was pulled over by the state trooper. I am currently a Clinical PsyD. Student at the William James College in Newton MA, and
The article states, “It Takes a Village” to tackle the growing problem, all the parents in the community should participate and volunteer to get the community kids to get more involved in outdoor activities (Parks, Young Kids, Old Bodies). As children are more into modern technologies, their outdoor activities are limited. The article also suggests that instead of forcing children to participate on random activity, parents should
In today’s society there is a high fear of crime by society. Society actions show that there is anxiety and fear about crime. Therefore, anxiety and fear about crime has placid our cities and communities. Society express fear of being victimized by crimes, criminal activities, and behaviors. Therefore, according to, (Crime, 1999) states that “ the level of fear that a person holds depends on many factors, including but, not limited to: “ gender, age, any past experiences with crime that a person may have, where one lives, and one’s ethnicity.” All of those factors have a huge impact on one’s fear level.
Roadside barrier are commonly used as a tool to reduce the pollution dispersion which exist in residential area which are nearby to industrial or highway. In this study, 2 dimensional computational fluid dynamic has been conducted to simulate the roadside barrier impact on near road air pollution. Different height of the barrier and the velocity input will be evaluate
Death is a difficult subject for many people. The topic alone can cause a lot of anxiety because of all the things we don’t know. Most of us fear death for many reasons. Whether it’s your final day, or a final moment with a loved one, it’s a painfully scary process because of its uncertainty.
A question that I commonly encounter both in my office practice and in the nursing home has to do with the safety of a parent or other older adult as a driver. Rather than the result of some considered review of the overall health and well-being of the person in question, this instead presents as an emergent and sometimes clandestine request such as, “What can I do to keep my dad from driving?”
...ing those in downtown areas. Arterial roads essentially serve longer through trips; also provides access to abutting commercial and residential land uses. Collector streets provide both land access and traffic circulation within commercial, residential and industrial areas. Urban roads are ranked between local streets and multilane suburban and rural highways in street transportation facilities. Downtown streets are signalized facilities that frequently functions like arterials during peak traffic hours. The difference is determined basically by street function, control conditions, and the character and intensity of roadside development. Multilane suburban and rural highways differ from urban roads in the following ways: roadside development is not as intense, density of traffic access points is not as high, and signalized intersections are more than 3.0 Km apart.
Anyone that has grown up in California knows traffic is terrible. Traffic is a huge problem in different parts of the world. It’s a serious problem in the state of California. According to Merriam Webster, the definition of traffic is “all of the vehicles driving along a certain road or in a certain area”. The definition of a traffic jam is “a situation in which a long line of vehicles on a road have stopped moving or are moving very slowly.” The increase of traffic causes more accidents. More than 1.2 million people die in traffic accidents every year. As many as 50 million people are injured or disabled by traffic-related accidents per year. In my report I will cover the problem with traffic and how people can do their part to solve or reduce traffic.
