Sarah Faulkner and Abigail Claesson spent the week of February 13th paging at the Roundhouse in Santa Fe. Working under Representative Dow, Faulkner and Claesson had the opportunity to meet their state’s government officials, experience the dynamic capital, and become intimate with the law making process. The girls had the opportunity to interact with many of the legislators, discussing House Bills, and sharing perspectives. By talking one-on-one with representatives, the young women realized how down-to-earth the state reps are. Many of them are school administrators, farmers, or small business owners, advocating for the wellbeing of their constituents and state. Hearing each of the legislator’s journeys to the capital, in the face of adversity
In the case of Drew Peterson, the court docket is important for the accused because it explains the why the different filings and rulings were made pertaining to the admissibility of evidence in this case and if the accused should in fact be accused of the murder of his wife Kathleen at all.
Dan Locallo is a very contradicting man. When he began his career as a prosecutor he was anything but polite to the defense lawyers. Locallo himself describes himself as “kind of an asshole” towards defense lawyers (Courtroom 302, 59). During his time as a prosecutor, Dan Locallo became intrigued by the opportunity to become a judge. When Steve Bogira asked Locallo why he wanted to become a judge, his reply seemed simple. Locallo claimed that he never wanted to become a judge because of a “power-trip” he does claim that “the power of attraction was a great influence” (Courtroom 302, 59). However, Locallo admits that the real reason why he wanted to become a judge was because he would have the “ability to make decisions, to do justice” (Courtroom 302, 59). As a judge, Locallo seems to express three different personalities, which tend to change depending on the current case at hand. His personalities are being compassionate judge, being an understanding judge, or being a hard-nose tough judge. Each of these personalities are not only determined by the case, but also by whether Locallo will profit on the long run; whether or not he will get reelected as a circuit judge at the end of his term.
The conviction of guilty offenders when adhering to the guidelines of the NSW criminal trial process is not difficult based on the presumption of innocence. However, due to features of the criminal trial process, established by the adversarial system of trial, cases can often involve copious amounts of time and money, particularly evident in the case of R vs Rogerson and McNamara where factors such as time and money are demonstrated to be in excess. In addition, characteristics of the adversarial system such as plea bargaining has the power to hinder convictions due to the accused having the authority to hire experienced and expensive lawyers to argue their case, hence maintaining their innocence.
Juan Seguin was born into a politically prominent family in 1806 to Juan Jose Maria Erasmo de Jesus and Maria Josefa Becerra. From an early age Seguin was entrusted by his father to handle certain business and political affairs. “During the time his father served as Texas deputy of the Constituent Congress, Juan handled the postmaster’s duties, helped his mother tend to the fields, and to some degree acted as intermediary between Erasmo and Austin.” Seguin’s father, Erasmo, worked with St...
In Tim Seibles' poem, The Case, he reviews the problematic situations of how white people are naturally born with an unfair privilege. Throughout the poem, he goes into detail about how colored people become uncomfortable when they realize that their skin color is different. Not only does it affect them in an everyday aspect, but also in emotional ways as well. He starts off with stating how white people are beautiful and continues on with how people enjoy their presence. Then he transitions into how people of color actually feel when they encounter a white person. After, he ends with the accusation of the white people in today's world that are still racist and hateful towards people of color.

Social Work is the study of people and how they interact with the systems in their environment and other people. Social Workers use theories, sets of ideas or concepts, of human behavior and apply them within their professional social work ethics to the problems facing clients in order to help them gain balance in the systems in their lives. Theories help to organize knowledge enabling social workers to help make sense of problems. There are many different theories. They have been grouped into broad categories called theoretical lenses (Rogers, A. 2013).
While we were not able to access information on the ways that public policy affects the programming at Girls Inc. and what government regulations they must abide by, it is well known that the organization continues to be on the forefront of advocating for policies that effect the populations they serve (girlsinc.org, 2014). When it comes to changing legislation that directly affects the lives of women and girls, Girls Inc. works to fight for many causes. Some of the initiatives they have been involved with include bills that address: sexual assault on college campuses, funding for afterschool programs (S 1796), sexual assault in the military (S 967), human trafficking, and improving the juvenile justice system for girls (HR 1833) (girlsinc.org, 2014).

I am choosing to write my essay focusing on Nancy Pelosi, arguably one of the most influential politicians of her time, and certainly one of the outstanding ladies of the political world. Not only was she the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House, she also was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame at Seneca Falls. She ranks with the most consequential speakers, certainly in the last 75 years.”(Burstyn) Nancy Pelosi was born on March 26th in 1940 and she has represented San Francisco for approximately 29 years. This however is not by far her most notable achievement, speaker of the house aside, under her guidance the 111th US Congress was said to be the most productive in the history of its conception. This means that she was able to oversee the 111th Congress in a manner that minimized the terrible three, collective action problems, commitment problems, and coordination problems. These problems all come down to the inability to make decisions, and are extremely ponderous to efficiency. She ran it as famously, even though the house was so divided when she took the pos...
Throughout this book, author Robert Welch demonstrates values of compassion, caution, and knowledge. These values interweave in Welch’s explanations of how the healthcare system of this country has so much money invested in it, and yet, manage patients receive so little care. This country has a healthcare system that is currently operating out of a broken model that does not place value on individual health, but on profit incentive.
