For the love of god, why? They were heinous the first time they were popular, and certainly they have not aged any better.
Tapered pants (as in, so tight at the ankle you can hardly get your foot through) were like, totally awesome in the '80s. But not really. Because as soon as we realized how ridiculous they looked, (and certainly they did) we embraced the boot cut. And now tapered pants are, like, totally grody.
"Totally to the max," agrees Carrie Krysanick of Hyde Park. "They just make for bad silhouettes." As one who "pegged" her pants in college and at one point even diagonally hand-stitched some jeans for a tighter calf-hugging fit, Krysanick is a near-expert on the phenomenon. But even she cannot explain the recent return of the taper.
Jane magazine said to "Do this don't." The "don't" was wearing tapered jeans with heels. The magazine said it would "slim" the leg - except that only tall, already-slim women can pull this off. And there are only about 12 of them in the whole world.
Then the Wall Street Journal put the look on its Marketplace cover, complete with drawings of women in tight-tapered jeans with heels, off-the-shoulder Belinda Carlisle-esque tops and big hair. (OK, so the Wall Street Journal isn't exactly a bastion of fashion. Nonetheless. The whole situation is terrifying.)
"I'm horrified," says Katie Rankin of East Walnut Hills. "It brings back memories of my first college boyfriend who wore Drakkar Noir, so I want to stay as far away from that as I can.
"Peg jeans were a big part of my life, but mostly associated with the painful parts."
And they weren't just painful from an aesthetic standpoint, but even painful to put on. The legs of some of the pants were so tight, women were known to break their own ankles, push them through the pants and then put on their Eastlands.
Back in Celie’s time women putting on a pair of pants was a paramount statement. The pants are also her source of economic success. Page 146: "Well,
I feel that in today’s society that men are discriminated against for the way they wear their clothes, specifically, their pants. For many guys sagging your pants are a fashion statement, although many people perceive individuals sagging their pants as “bad” individuals. As a kid, I did wear my pants below my butt, but as I grew older, it gradually raised. I am a professional person, but my style and my comfort have my pants lie just below my hips. I wear a belt, but having my pants all the way above my waist makes me extremely uncomfortable. Even for my wedding, I had to have my pants altered, because tuxedo pants only sit high on the waist. I find it hard to have a law against someone’s choice of fashion, and that one could get fined in some states for sagging your pants. It seems a bit discriminatory when some women can go out barley wearing anything and get fined. The sagging pants law should be eradicated because it is discriminatory and a waste of resources, and instead left up to the community to decide weather they would like to provide services to people who sag their pants.
self is quite evident in this film. China is going through a massive industrial revolution, similar to the American industrial revolution of the early 19th century. After three years of following the Zhang family, first time director Lixin Fan released The Last Train Home, attempting to raise awareness to the down side of China’s powefull economy. While the film The Last Train Home seems to just depict the lives of factory workers, it is actually making a political statement about how western capitalism exploits factory workers to produce cheap goods. The film makes this exploitation evident by depicting the fracturing of the Zhang family and the harsh working conditions they must endure.
What ever happened to having your pants on your waist? It’s apparently now called a “fashion” to have them below your ass. Though sagging looks hideously ridiculous there is some history behind it I bet many of you do or don't know. For instance According to Greg Mathis, sagging was adopted in the United States prison systems where belts were sometimes prohibited to prevent prisoners from using them as a weapon or committing suicide by hanging themselves but that style was later popularized by hip hop artists such as snoop dogg and others in the 1990’s.
Antigone’s civil disobedience is on full display at the onset of the play when she is speaking to her sister Ismene. “Have you heard this order, the latest order that the King has proclaimed to the city? Have you heard how our dearest are being treated like enemies?” Antigone learns of her brother’s mistreatment at the hands of Creon and immediately her conscience tells her that something is wrong. Although Polynices attacked the city Antigone still believes
The Tuskegee experiment was an experiment that involved African American men and syphilis. It was hypothesized that African Americans reacted differently to syphilis than whites did. These men were brought into the experiment without knowing what was happening, that they had syphilis, or that there was a cure for it already established. Many of those in the experiment believed that it was "bad blood", and never heard it termed syphilis. The health care providers that were administering the experiment were whites as well as African Americans. The experiment lasted for 40 years before it was finally brought to the public attention. Over 3/4 of the participants had died from the fact they were not being treated. This caused mistrust among the
The first research issue raised was that the Tuskegee study subjects were unaware that they were participating in the study and they were not being treated, but they were just used as guinea pig. In addition, subjects were not given the choice of whether they want to participate in the study or not. The second research issue raised by research was that the study was performed one hundred percent African American people only. This shows government health care profes-sionals biased behaviour towards minority and violation of the public rights. Finally, the third research issue raised was that Syphilis was untreated among the African American subjects for 40 years, and no comprehensive report was published accept the study was reported in medical journals. In addition, for 40 years no one ever protested in the medical community for treating study subjects. Observers of the study felt that there was no
The Tuskegee Syphilis Study was conducted by the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) and involved the participation of 600 black men: 399 all of whom had contracted syphilis before being enrolled in the study, and 201 who did not have the disease (Schmidt & Brown, 2015, p. 33). While it is required by law to provide full disclosure of all aspects of a research study (informed consent) these men were misled by researchers and told they were being treated for “bad blood.” Additionally, penicillin treatment (found to be effective against syphilis) was withheld for research purposes (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2017, para. 2−5). With this in mind, these men were never told about the actual study or its real purpose and
However, for those who did not get the privilege to experience a good environment growing up due to drug addicted parents and guardians should not lose hope. Such is also the case of adolescents who were introduced to drug abuse and feel hopeless in life. Programs such as the Adolescents Substance Use Disorders Services Program, aim to ensure hope and quality life for every broken child and adolescent. If left unattended and ignored, this children could end up on the wrong side of the law hence spend their adult life behind bars or far must worse remain unproductive all through their lives. It would be hazardous to ignore these children hence the urge to ensure all government officials in every state and the world at large to participate in a program that would not only increase the number of healthy adolescents but also the number of reliable adults in future. Drug addiction and abuse are cases that have brought down the economy of many countries all over the world due to unproductive adults who are deep into the act hence the need for it to be
Written in a simple iambic pattern and constructed into three stanzas, “Those Winter Sundays” displays no exact rhyme scheme. With this information, the reader understands that Hayden’s poem takes on a free verse structure. With the poem being free verse, the poet can express his feelings without limitations of strict structure. With that being said, “Those Winter Sundays” contains a variety of lines in each stanza. Throughout the poem the speaker is comparing his observations of his father from then to now.
In the poem “Those Winter Sundays”, Robert Hayden also reflects back to his childhood. “Sundays too my father got up early” (line 1). Hayden implied that his father was a hard worker and instead of sleeping in and resting on Sundays he got up to make the house warm for his family. Once the house was warm, he would call the family out of bed. This shows his love for his family, but the family does not thank him for this.
... invisible and affordable, and some would even feel comfortable. Shapewear is becoming popular. The manufacture kept changing the outlook to make it "fashion". Corset has been about 400 years history of fashion, although it may pose some health risk, but it benefit for many people physically. Wearing shapewear can mould the beautiful curve of breast enhancement, to receive an abdomen, waist, minus, carry buttock, leg effect, and it’s obvious to accentuated women’s sexy. There are many type of shapewear can make people have a great figure, such as waist & tight slimming, back slimming, shaping panties, and body slimming. As the era progress, people’s concept of shapewear change a lot and the shapewear will become more popular in today’s society; people wear shapewear to modify their bodies and many women think the feeling of slim can give them more self-confidence.
While a flat stomach comes naturally for a sizeable proportion of the population, it has been a feature that many have strived to achieve; so much so that some will be willing to do just about anything for it. It’s no wonder that, it’s suddenly become fashionable to own a waist cincher while using it in the past has been associated with oppression of the female gender. Waist cinchers have been used by women since the 1500s but have gained tremendous popularity over the past few years as more women use them to tone their stomach muscles.
We can feel the pain and sadness of the speaker through the words used throughout the poem. Frequent use of commas also provides pauses that prevent us from reflecting. Many times we look at a certain point in our lives with regret. We feel that if we knew what we now know, things would have been different. As we grow older, our view of the world is changed through experience and maturity. In “Those Winter Sundays," the speaker is a man who reflects on his past and his apathy toward the father when the speaker was a child. As an adult, the speaker came to understand what had unfortunately escaped him as a boy. Now he has learned to appreciate the way his father's love took over. The speaker now understands how difficult and solitary the duties of parental love can be and how they are sustained by detachment and without expectation of
In the world of fashion, there is denim. It is one of the world’s oldest fabrics, and has been modified and remodelled to go with the latest fashion trends. The first ones who wore this fabric are workers in the California Gold Rush era, designed by Jacob Davis because of its sturdy material that withstood the harsh working conditions. Not just them, even sailors from Italy use this material too as their sailing uniform. Then, it started appearing as an actor’s apparel, and that’s when denim started to become one of a fashion item. People started wearing jeans as part of their daily apparel and even adding their own ideas, such as studs and colouring it with different shades of denim. It doesn’t only stop around that era, but today, they are seen everywhere and has become a major clothing piece for almost all of the age groups. As a reference, we can see young children already wears jeans as part of their clothing, the teenagers added jeans to their wardrobe, and even for the seniors, they consider jeans as a simple and comfortable clothing pieces.
