Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell is truly one of the best stories I have ever read. Rainbow has a very unique style of writing that just gets you hooked from the get go. She skillfully portrays young adults by using characters, plot, and atmosphere in Fangirl.
A main element in this story is the characters. I felt as though they were really my friends. One of the major relationships in this story is the one between Cath and her sister Wren. Yes, they love each other, but they go down a rocky path for a while. Cath is a very kind hearted girl who is really just trying to find her place in the world. Wren is the opposite. Although wren is a sweet girl as well, she tries to climb the social ladder to fast leaving her sister alone. When trying to cope with being abandoned by their mother, the girls cope differently. Wren becomes in contact with her mother. This situation left Cath feeling very uncomfortable and angry. “If I’m freaking out, it’s because you’re not

Her strengths are showing growth in characters, and suspense through the series of events that leave you on the edge of your seat. The character Cath Avery shows a lot of growth from the start of the book to the end.“I’m making it about me. It’s not my job to want you or not want you. It’s my job to earn you.” page 335. This quote comes from Cath when she speaks up to her mom. Throughout the whole story, Cath is a very nervous girl. She also despises her mother for leaving her at such a young age. For Cath to speak up for herself was a very big deal because of her lack of social skills. From the beginning of the story to the end, you watch Cath grow as a person. At the beginning, she had a hard time even talking to her roommate. At the end, her roommate was her best friend. For example, at the end of the story Wren asks to be Cath’s roommate and she says no because she is rooming with Regan once
Taylor's courage shown throughout this novel and her risk taking attitude make her truly independent, but her relationships that she has formed in her new life, and her maturing and empathy she shows towards them make her truly strong. Taylor truly has a genuine and good heart. I really did enjoy her character despite the confusion in the beginning dealing with her reaction to being thrown a child. She seemed to be to calm about it in the beginning but by the end of Bean Trees I understand her more and I believe she has truly grown into this amazing woman. She is a great mother, an amazing friend, a risk taker filled with compassion for others and her courage completely shines through. Her journey began as being a normal teenager and ended as a loving mother.
“I didn’t mean to be polite, or impolite, either. I guess it’s a sort of way I have of saying things, regardless”(Cather).

She needs to be strong for the whole family while dealing with this tough situation, and most importantly, she has to be encouraging for her daughter. Jessica’s mom murmurs to her, “Things will get better. I promise you, they will” (Van Draanen 58). Her mom knows that her life is grim and it feels like the end of the world to her daughter. She can only make her feel better by continuing to encourage her and give her love and support. Jessica thinks to herself, “She waves back, but even from the curb I can feel her worry, and I suddenly realize that it has nothing to do with the wheelchair or with me falling. The last time Fiona drove me away in her Subaru, it took me more than a week to come home” (Van Draanen 77). Her mom has to decide whether she is going to live in fear of her daughter getting hurt every time she leaves home. This accident was a trying time for everybody in their family and it affected all of

All in all, Jeannette’s character development through the course of the novel is immense. Her personality begins to ripen, and she starts to discover the truth about her life and family. Numerous instances occurred in the novel; firstly she discovers the truth about her parents and realizes that she misperceived their personalities. To continue, Jeannette begins to learn a bit more about the issues the Walls face. The life of adventure began to seem dangerous and unstable. Lastly Jeannette starts to develop her own personality and focus on her future. She never had these thoughts previously; she always concerned herself with the dilemmas of others. Throughout Jeannette develops tremendously, she begins to see the world through her own eyes and no longer has a barrier of youth to protect her.
Many times when reading a novel, the reader connects with one of the characters and begins to sympathize with them. This could be because the reader understands what the character is going through or because we get to see things from the character’s perspective and their emotions and that in return allows a bond to form for the reader. The character that is the most intriguing for me and the one I found comparing to every book that I read during school was Stacey from the book “Ravensong” Lee Maracle. The character Stacey goes through a lot of internal battle with herself and it’s on her path to discovery that she begins to understand herself and what she’s capable of. Throughout the novel, Stacey has a few issues she tries to work through.
Susie’s mother opened the door to let Molly, Susie’s babysitter, inside. Ten-month old Susie seemed happy to see Molly. Susie then observed her mother put her jacket on and Susie’s face turned from smiling to sad as she realized that her mother was going out. Molly had sat for Susie many times in the past month, and Susie had never reacted like this before. When Susie’s mother returned home, the sitter told her that Susie had cried until she knew that her mother had left and then they had a nice time playing with toys until she heard her mother’s key in the door. Then Susie began crying once again.
The sister's fights are usually underlined with their desires to make each other into better people. The sisters are connected by their pursuit a better life causing them to push each other towards their goals. When Emily gets herself
The characters are relatable. Carmen is the most thoughtful of the four friends, and recognizes the importance of friendship more than others do. Carmen is half Puerto Rican and half White, she lives with her single Latina mom. Throughout the book she has to deal with feeling replaced when she finds out that her dad is engaged to a white woman who already has two teenagers. Bridget is an athlete, she spends her summer at a soccer camp in Mexico. She is impulsive and reckless, but her high spirits help her make friends quickly. Lena is the shy one. She travels to Greece to spend the summer with her grandparents. She is quiet and happiest when she can just be alone. She's not much into boys, because through experience she's learned that they usually only like her for her looks. Finally there's Tibby, the rebel. The only one of the 4 girls stuck at home, she views it as plain and boring.
Love can conquer anything, this is what saves lives and brings people together. It’s what molds our society. In the novel A Wrinkle in Time, the main character Meg shows this throughout. Meg the protagonist carries many characteristics that embodies her strength, protectiveness, and willingness; which rescuing her brother Charles Wallace thus making her change from being short tempered to a strong and brave hero. A key part, to how her characteristics describe her strength, will, and protectiveness.
Cathy to me shows a strong an overcoming character. She is able to talk about and overcome the struggles that she endured throughout her childhood and even goes a far as understand what and why her mother did the things that she did to them. To myself, Cathy is a very mature and forgiving character and I feel a special connection between myself and Cathy. I to, feel I have the same attributes as Cathy did. I have never been put through anything that Cathy has been through but the mature and forgiving attitude Cathy possess is present within me as well. Cathy also plays the big sister role to her fellow younger sister through times of trouble within her childhood, This I can relate too. When I was younger, my mum, my sister and I were in an abusive relationship with my father. He did really bad stuff to us, that I cannot explain since I was really little. My mother told me that, ever since my younger sister was born I would always be there for her reading bedtime stories, helping her to learn how to write, playing adventure/Imagination games. All though we weren’t in the same situation as Cathy - being trapped in a closet, there are still ways that I feel a deep connection with. Overall, I feel Cathy is the charter who I connect most with out of all the characters in Flowers in the
In my opinion, this novel was a very romantic, and happy love story and overall an wonderful novel. I loved all the plot twists throughout the story. I believe Sparks did an amazing job writing this story. He managed to make the reader laugh, cry, and smile all in a matter of a few pages. The story line is intriguing and very relatable to the dreams of young girls. It allows the reader to imagine the love connection between Allie and Noah and makes them enjoy hearing about their journey together as a
