Family sticks together Have you ever stopped and thought about what everybody in the world has in common? Family is a very common thing. It could just be a group of people that you care about and love or it could just be a person. Family is always together and family never falls apart. Family is that one group that you love and worry about and it can be that one person. In the book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton family is a very important thing. Family is the best blessing to have. The theme S.E Hinton talks about is family always sticks together. The theme that S.E Hinton talks about family always sticks together. Family always cares and helps each other no matter what happens. This theme is display in the beginning of the novel in the way Ponyboy , Sodapop ,and Darry are always there for each other. An example is when Ponyboy says “greasers are almost like a hood they steal things and drive old souped-up cars and hold up gas stations and have a gang fight once in a while (3).” What Ponyboy means by this is they are just like a family because they do everything together just like a family would do. They might look mean but they have love and care in their hearts and that …show more content…
they love what they have. Another example is when Ponyboy says in the book “by then I had figured that all the noise I had heard was the gang coming to rescue me (7).” Ponyboy is saying when someone gets hurt in the gang they all come and help that person get better just what a family would do. Also in the beginning of the novel Ponyboy is a lot with Johnny just like if he was part of the family. That’s another example of the theme that S.E Hinton talks about family always sticks together. In The Outsiders by S.E Hinton there is a lot of themes but to me the theme family always sticks together is important and it describes the outsiders a lot more. In the middle of the novel there were some examples of this theme for example when Jonny kills bob, Ponyboy never left Johnny alone in the park. Ponyboy could of left Johnny and told the police but he never did that because Ponyboy cares about Johnny just like if he was part of his family. Another example there was in the middle of the novel was when Ponyboy said " Johnny and I slept huddled together for warmth (76)." What Ponyboy is saying about this is him and Johnny have been closer than ever. Also they only have each other to protect. The theme family always sticks together is a big thing in The Outsiders. At the end of the outsiders there is a lot of examples of the theme family always sticks together.
In the beginning of chapter 11 Ponyboy says, "Darry is a good guardian he makes me study and knows where I am and who I am with (165)”. The reason why this is a great example of the theme family sticks together is because the things Darry does for Ponyboy are things a parent would do. The next example of theme is when Ponyboy tells himself "Don't remember how Johnny was your buddy and don't remember that he didn't want to die (156)”. This is another example that also great because Ponyboy doesn’t want to remember but he knows in the inside that he does want to remember the good times with Johnny and even the bad ones. At the end of the outsiders the theme family always sticks together shows up a
lot. The theme from the book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton family always sticks together is a big thing because family is someone or a group of people that you care for and love. The importance of this theme is family helps each other and cares for each other a lot even when there is problems in between them. Having a family is a big blessing to have. The theme family always sticks together was a lot in The Outsiders by S.E Hinton when Ponyboy was at the hospital and he saw Soda pop and Darry. The theme from the book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton can relate to me because to me family is a very important thing. What we can gain from the experience of reading this awesome novel is family will always be with you no matter what happens.
In the story the The Outsiders the two characters Johnny and Dally have many similarities and one is that the gang is their family. The gang is Dally’s family because after he dies the judge asks Darry if Dally was a good friend of theirs and Darry says’”yes sir”’(168). Darry said that Dally was a good friend of theirs. When the judge asked Sodapop and the rest of the gang they said the same exact thing. Similarly,in the beginning of Ponyboy says that the gang is Johnny's only family. “If it hadn’t been for the gang, Johnny would never have known what love and
Showing that Ponyboy was very inexperienced and thought Mickey Mouse Sodas horse was just like Soda and they were brothers.Thirdly, we see how some actions Ponyboy’s gang does help show the need for childhood innocence like when pony says,” Darrel, who we call Darry, works too long and hard to be interested in a story or drawing a picture,” (Hinton 3). Darry is only 20 and he has a job working on roofs he works so hard so he can care for his brothers Soda and Ponyboy he has no time to be a kid himself he is working like a man when he is only a child. While some believe the main theme is brotherly love I argue its preserving childhood innocence. While this is a good point, because Ponyboy’s group definitely sticks up for one another in a brotherly fashion, it lays a strong foundation for preserving childhood innocence. Jonny had never been a coward he was a good man in a rumble, (Hinton 34) this shows how has Johnny loses his innocence, he becomes fearful of the Soc’s and begins to carry a switchblade to keep his gang safe, you might think this shows brotherly love, but it also shows preserving childhood innocence because when Johnny got used to being targeted by the Soc’s he lost his innocence, that’s why he would carry stuff like switch blades to keep him and others safe from the Soc’s. While the Greasers grew up they lost more and more of their innocence to rumbles and hatred of the Soc’s.
Pony and Johnny have difficult home lives, and don’t sense strong connections with people in their own family. Ponyboy has a difficult time with his home life. His oldest brother, Darry has been turned tough after their parents died in a car crash. Darry
Ponyboy and others know subconsciously that they need to hammer away. Through dreadful living conditions, family issues, and the deaths of friends, they just chip away until they can’t no more. When the end is there in the distance they all lean on each other and support the others. Ponyboy and his family endure through the thick and the thin. S.E. Hinton shows this so perfectly and inspires the rest of the world to do so. At the end of the day, the reader can understand how important it is to persevere through
The Outsiders, an enthralling novel by S.E Hinton, is an excellent story about the hardships and triumphs experienced by the Greasers and the Socs two rival gangs. S.E Hinton tells a thrilling tale about the Socs and the Greasers that are two gangs and she characterize how they live. Ponyboy, his brother and his friends have to deal with the challenges relating to their environment. The three most important topics of The Outsiders are survival, social class and family support.
“No, we’re greasers,” I said, which means Ponyboy is stepping up to his family and love his brothers. Ponyboy is thinking the same way I am like explaining and what the theme means of trusting someone, or trusting your family. My theme for the middle of the novel is, “the little kids could have a better life than you.”
“Since Mom and Dad were killed in an auto wreck, the three of us get to stay together only as long as we behave (2).” This explains why Ponyboy, Dally and Sodapop did not have parents. In the novel, this really effected their life and character. "…It was Darry. He hit me. I don't know what happened, but I couldn't take him hollering at me and hitting me too... He didn't use to be like that... we used to get along okay... before Mom and Dad died. Now he just can't stand me (2)." This shows that not having their parents anymore effected Darry’s character and how he treated Ponyboy, which in return effected how Ponyboy felt about himself in comparison to how he was treated. This illustrates that Ponyboy believes that Darry picks on him all the time. This shows that Darry was like a caring parent in a tough way,
Family can help to build different character traits or it can help to better people. Family is also something that can be relied upon to help with different problems. Many times families and family members will teach a lesson that can be used later in life to help with varied situations. The people that are in the non-fiction literature all have one thing in common: they faced a problem, and were able to overcome it with the help of their family. With the help of family, people can better themselves and the people around them, by using the lessons their family has taught them.
In The Outsiders it is given that through faith and devotion to one another Ponyboy and the gang use their close friendship in troublesome situations for instance when Johnny tells Ponyboy “i had to” he does this as an act of loyalty to Ponyboy to show him that he can trust him no matter what situation they are in.Most of the story is told from first person or Ponies perspective which shows us without exception every aspect of the story. When Johnny dies at the end of the book Ponyboy only then realizes the importance of him, and the gangs need for someone like Johnny to give them a sense of purpose after mentioning “we couldn't get along without him . We needed Johnny as much as he needed the gang.” Throughout all of Ponyboys hardships Johnny was always there to support him even when Ponyboy wanted to run away after darry slapped him, he never asked any questions. To keep a strong friendship you need to stay loyal to one another just as much as Ponyboy and his brothers stay loyal to each other after stating in chapter twelve “If we don’t have each other, we don’t have anything.” Through passionate tone used by Sodapop throughout this quote we are shown that after everything they have been through that they trust each other and that staying together is all
The legendary quote “Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold” from the renowned novel “The Outsiders” is something that I hope my children and grandchildren will have the privilege to know and understand. The Outsiders has a strong value of family and friendship. Throughout the book there are many satellite themes and issues. The book is known as a coming of age for adolescence. When I first read this book it was in my 8th grade Language Arts class. The first thing that came to my mind was “hey, isn’t that the movie with that Cruise guy”. I had no clue that the story of Ponyboy Curtis would touch my heart in such a way. I had been going through so much that year, I felt as if I was Ponyboy. Middle school starts were kids finally come to a realization of
Throughout life individuals face many challenges testing their values and personality one situation at a time. In the evocative novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton themes of growing up and innocence are shown. Ponyboy is not your average 14 year old he is part of a gang known to many as the Greasers. He encounters many situations testing his values and beliefs. Having lost both his parents recently he and his brothers stick together like a true family but this relationship is tested when Darry hits Ponyboy. He also experiences the loss several close friends in a very short period of time. Throughout this novel, Ponyboy encounters many life changing experiences that prove he is a dynamic character.
Family in the novel is described as a group of people that have a unit or bond that they share each day
...n they are in the hospital when Johnny, Ponyboy and Dally return from Windrixville and Johnny is dying. Ponyboy realizes that Darry does actually care about him; he is just strict because he wants him to be better. At that point Ponyboy thinks that everything is going to be all right because he understands Darry now, but it just goes back to normal with all of the arguing. Finally Sodapop steps in after Dally dies and everyone is sad and feeling helpless. He tells Darry and Ponyboy to promise to never argue again because he doesn’t like it, and they agree. All of these conflicts in the novel “The Outsiders” started with Darry hitting Ponyboy in the face. This lead to many different relationship problems between the Curtis brothers and three deaths that made the relationship very strong.
When the word “family” is discussed, most people think of mothers, fathers, and other siblings. Some people think of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and even cousins and more on the pedigree tree. Without family in people's lives, they would not be the same people that they grew up to be today and in the future. When people hear the word family they think about, the ones who will help them in any way they can whether it’s money, support, advice, or anything to help them succeed in life. Family will forever be the backbone of support.
Everyone seems to define family differently, however, the significance of family is the same. For you, family means everything. You can always count on your parents and siblings for help and love. Family is very valuable and important to you and should never be taken for granted. No one can deny that family is the foundation of our generation. A family is where we all start our life journey and helps us grow to be successful throughout our lives.
