Why Censorship is Never Okay. Have you ever witnessed an act of censorship? In the book Fahrenheit 451, the government controls and censors all books, burning them when found to try and control the people better. Censorship of literature is never justified because it suppresses creativity, individuality, and doesn't let us learn from our mistakes. Censorship of literature suppresses creativity. "It doesn't matter what you do...so long as you change something from the way it was before you touched it into something that's like you after you take your hands away.” (Bradbury 150). The quote stated shows how important it is to use creativity for anything in life. Without creativity, everyone would be left with the same ideas and no original thoughts. People have gotten too used to their lives with distractions from their giant TV screens, and seashell radios. Literature creates individuality because books show us different kinds of people with different backgrounds. Censorship of literature doesn't let us learn from our mistakes. Maybe the books can get us half out of the cave. They just might stop us from making the same damn insane mistakes! Bradbury 70. Censoring books can "exacerbate societal polarization" by "silencing" different viewpoints (George). Silencing different viewpoints makes it that there is no opposition and alienates minorities.
