Facing the Giants
“Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase.” Martin Luther King Jr. The movie Facing the Giants is written and directed by Alex Kendrick, with some help from Stephen Kendrick. Main actors/ actresses that star in this movie include, Alex Kendrick (Grant Taylor), Shannen Fields (Brooke Taylor), Bailey Cave (David Childers), and Jason Mcleod (Brock Kelley). This movie is based not only on the game of football, but also on how to build your faith in things that can not be seen. This movie is strong on Christian faith, and provides the viewer a sense of strength. Facing the Giants is classified to be a Christian/ Drama. This movie is definitely a success. Faith, family, and strength are three major points that this movie pushes on viewers.
Facing the Giants portrays every aspect of having faith. This movie resembles the story of David and Goliath in 1 Samuel in the Bible. In the beginning of this movie, Grant Taylor and his team cannot win a football game to save their lives. The team does not work together and just want what is best for themselves. Things start going downhill for everyone. Grant Taylor is threatened to be kicked off of the coaching position, and on top of that he learns that he is the reason for him and his wife’s infertility. When all else starts to fail, Grant

Taylor looks to God. After everything that is going on in his life, he puts all of his energy, all of his time into God, at home and on the playing field. Taylor takes his religious studies and decides to share them with his players. The players all eventually build up in religion as well, and in the end it pays off. There is many acts of faith in this movie. Family is another big role in this movie. On and off the field these boys become a family. Through their spiritual beliefs, and the love of football, these guys start working together and become unstoppable. Turning years worth of losing seasons into a undefeated season is all due to working as a team. No one is left behind, and everyone plays a specific part. Football is not the only place this movie shows the importance of family, but also in the lives of these students and the coaches. Grant Taylor and his wife have a wonderful relationship. Even though hard times hit them bad, somehow they work together and make it through every rough patch in their lives. Some boys on the team also have some hard times with their families, but after grasping onto spiritual beliefs their home lives start moving up in the right direction. None of these characters would make it through the bumps in their lives without their family. Along with having faith, and family, being strong ties in with both of those topics. There are moments in this movie where the characters are forced to be strong. Some say that one does not know how hard being strong is, until it is the only option left. Grant Taylor knows how to push his players to the limit. During a scene in this movie, none of the players have faith in beating a tough team. So Taylor decides to push one of his strongest players to the edge, Brock Kelley. Taylor has Brock do the death crawl (moving on hands and feet with someone on your back, no knees touching the ground) , but instead of the usual death crawl, Taylor has him do it blindfolded. This takes away Brock’s opportunity to stop when he thinks he is far enough, it makes him go as far as he can go, without knowing where he is at. It pushes Brock, it makes him use every ounce of strength he has. Strength is what makes us who we are as people, and that was what Grant Taylor was trying to get across. This movie is based not only on the game of football, but also on how to build your faith in things that can not be seen.

Faith, family, and strength are three major points that this movie pushes on viewers. “I want God to bless this team so much that people talk about what He did. But we need to give Him our best in every area. And if we win, we praise Him; and if we lose we praise Him. Either way. We honor Him with our actions and our attitudes.” Coach

middle of paper ... ... I heard someone say once a quote that I think fits really well, that Christians’ fight with values and it is almost impossible to fight with values. This is true and I think because you can’t necessarily fight values we have to attempt to change values and that can be much more effective with something that hits home a little more than scientific facts might. Overall, the film was a very informative film for a more homophobic audience.
The film Remember the Titans, directed by Boaz Yakin, set in 1971, is about a high school football team who are forced to integrate and overcome their racial prejudice. An important character is Gary Bertier as throughout the film he changes and strays away from his prejudice manner and becomes a fair and promising leader that overcomes conflict that lies beneath the segregated community.
Remember the Titans is a film based on the true story of Coach Herman Boone, who tries to integrate a racially divided team. Throughout training camp and the season, Boone and Yoast 's black and white players learn to accept each other, to work together, and that football knows no race. As they learn from each other, Boone and Yoast also learn from them and in turn, the whole town learns from the team, the Titans. Thus, they are prepared to pursue the State Championship and to deal with and some adversity that threatens to effect their season.
I decided to review “Silver Linings Playbook”, which is based on a romantic-comedy novel written by Matthew Quick. It was produced in 2012 by The Weinstein, starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro.
Words and images are the couple that should never be separated. As mentioned in Scott McCloud’s, “Show and Tell,” we are taught from childhood that we should mature out from using images in our writing. Comics are viewed as amateurish in the professional field of English. We are continuously told that comics and usage of images in a text are pretty “childish” and should not be tolerated by the “higher” level of English. If the meaning of a text is transferred through the employment of images and words, then it is done correctly. Readers across the nation admits that demonstration of images and words in any literary work amplifies the understanding of the work, as also mentioned by McCloud.
Christianity plays a very important role in society today. Seeing all the different ways that Christianity affects the way we live our lives, I noticed that professional sports is greatly influenced by Christianity. There always tens to be some controversy over Christianity in professional sports. Weather in football, boxing, basketball, or baseball, there is controversy. But this controversy is not necessarily a bad thing. The reason that there is controversy is because more and more professional athletes are either professing that they are Christians, or there are athletes accepting the Christian beliefs from the witnessing of other athletes. This growth does not stop here. As the number of Christian professional athletes is on a rise, the public notices. The public is greatly influenced by super-stars. When one of those super-stars becomes Christian, many fans of that athlete will notice and see the difference in him/her. The fans will act how the athlete will act. If they see Michael Jordan doing something, they "wanna be like Mike". So, it is easy to see how Christian athletes have an affect on other athletes, and how all the athletes have an affect on society. Subsequently, by having this affect on society it is healthy to set a Christian example rather then that of the world. We need someone who is willing to put him/herself out there and proclaim the word of god through his or her own lives.
There is a scene in this movie where the coach takes the team on a long run in the middle of the night. They end up at the break of dawn at a cemetery. The coach tells the young men of the battle that was fought on that ground. He told of the blood shed on those grounds that turned the whole area red. This can help many people that want to make a difference in this world. They had to stand up for their new knowledge to people that they love and trust.
... relationships of the black and white people, and how they learned to interact with each other in a time when this was not the way of life. It displays a team that puts a dent into a major problem in the United States at that time. Through leadership they were able to break through a common thought, and as I have said before it really is inspiring to watch. As Coach Boone said, “Make sure they always remember the night they played the Titans” (Moviequotes.com)”
The Hollywood Industry has already begun promoting Christian ideals. We see this through the recent epic of Christian Movies that have materialized in the theaters. Movies such as: Fireproof, Courageous, Fifth Quarter, The Grace Card, and Facing the Giants are a few examples of such films.
One significance of football that is apparent throughout this movie is bringing not only the students together but also
This team had all odds against them and they still achieved their goal as a team. This movie taught me a underlying lesson. In order to work together you must build a common ground and agreement. It takes trust and communication to accomplish any goal you and your team set. Setting aside differences that may exist within your group and moving forward with similarities is the most important thing to remember. Every group has challenges and conflicts they must work through and together. Without your team on your side, you will not succeed. I can incorporate these learning into my behavior when working with future groups because I gained a sense of understanding that success does not have an “I”. A team is not just one person but a combination of other talents, experiences, thoughts and ideas. Teamwork makes the dream
Tyronne Gross and Otis Amey, two former NFL players, quickly climbed up the stairs as they buzzed with anticipation, looking forward to how many students they would be able to reach out to during their sixty-minute sojourn at Center High School. As they opened the door of the classroom, exclamations of praise and excitement greeted them. There were over eighty students gathered to hear the stories of these men and their journey through life as Christian athletes. As members of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, they were closely associated with our school's Transformed Bible Club, which I organized. The room quickly grew quiet, so quiet a person could hear their neighbor breathing. We all sat quietly and listened to the message both men brought forth to us.
Hello everybody, I would like to talk to you about a disability that we are all born with. Although in the time when our ancestors were scantily clad and running around to catch a meal or avoid being one, this disability came in handy. However, now it dominates the way we act and think throughout most of our lives. (By a show of hands how many of you think you’re in control of what you do? Now raise your hand if you think you’re good at multitasking) I’m surprised to have seen these kind of results. The reason why is because when it comes to thinking or completing a task, it's always action, action, action. Except that’s the problem because that's all we’re doing and we’re never taking a brief pause to formulate an effective plan. So now in our age of information our brains are constantly at work because they’re constantly being bombarded by so much
Not only does this movie deal with the issues of society, but it points to biblical scriptures that help lead us in the right direction. The biggest lesson that this film taught me was that if I put my complete faith in God, then no matter what happens, he will provide, watch over, and take care of me. I learned that expressing belief in God is not enough. I have to live everyday believing and trusting him and I have to show my trust and faith through my actions and my words.
There are a vast number of secular films whose main themes revolve around redemption. Because of this, Christians should not be afraid use this as a way to gain popularity within the film industry. By creating films that are not explicitly Christian we can prove to the culture that we not only understand them, but are also interested in them. Creating a film that is a part of pop culture can be an excellent way of getting the Christian message into the culture. One great example of this is The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by Walden Media. This film, based off of the popular children’s book series by C.S. Lewis, became vastly popular and part of the culture. The film made over $700,000 worldwide and has led to two sequels thus far. The film, while not explicitly Christian, has many Christian themes and elements. Dr. Christians
