Explication of Shakespeare's Hamlet
In Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, Rosencrantz speaks Act 3 Scene 3 lines 11-23. The lines that he speaks are in response to the Kings request that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern take Hamlet to England immediately. The king feels that Hamlet's madness is a threat to him and tries to convince the men that it is a threat to the kingdom and that it would be in Hamlet's best interest to go to England. During Rosencrantz lines he is in agreement with the King. I believe that the reason he goes along with the king is more out of fear and ignorance, rather then support of what the king thinks. In the passage Rosencrantz offers excuses for what the king wants done, in hopes to justify him.
"The single and peculiar life is bound with all the strength and armor of the mind to keep it self from noyance and much more." This line is saying that your life is controlled by your mindset. It says that the mind is what causes the most harm and that the only way to be protected from your mind is to be in a correct state of mind. I think that the reason that the Shakespeare puts the word "noyance" before he says "much more", is because he wants to stress the fact that what harm can be caused by yourself is much worse then harm that could be caused by another person. The following line is a statement that says why it is so important to have a correct mindset when other people's lives rest in your hands. "The spirit" that he refers to can be thought of as either the late hamlet, or the hamlet that seeks revenge. It just depends on if you connect it to the lines before it or the lines that follow. The lines before it seem to be referring to the Hamlet that seeks revenge. They are talking about him being controlled by madness. If you connect this line to Hamlet, you state that there is a lot of harm that could be caused if the whole kingdom depends on Hamlet. However if you connect it to the lines that follow it, they refer to the dead king. "The cess of the majesty dies not alone, but like a gulf doth draw what's near it with it" This refers to the death of the king be tragic to anyone who is connected to him.
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are foils to Hamlet. The two are introduced as friends to Hamlet. But also they are like messengers for the king. Hamlet learns of their treachery to him, there dual loyalty to he and the king. This is introduced in his conversation with the queen where he says, “My two-school fellows, whom I will trust as adders fanged”. Of the four young men who occupy a place in the life of Hamlet, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern appear, at least initially, to be his closest friends. They are schoolmates at Wittenburg, and Hamlet greets them both amicably, remarking, " My excellent good friends! How dost thou,....." Queen Gertrude affirms the status of their relationship when she says, "And sure I am two men there is not living to whom he more adheres." Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are unaware, however, of the real story behind the death of Hamlet’s Father. They do not have the benefit of seeing his ghost, as Hamlet has. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are very loyal to the new King. Unlike Hamlet, they initially have no reason not to trust Claudius. But they become unwitting and unknowing pawns for both factions. Their relationship with Hamlet begins to sour. Hamlet realizes what the King is up to, and he becomes distrustful of the two. "’Sblood, do you think I am easier to be played on than a pipe?...

Hamlet is irked by the inadequateness of humans about their knowledge of the afterlife. He is equally angered by the fact he was assigned the task to kill Claudius. Hamlet also feels the “pangs of despised love” (Shakespeare 3.1.77) because Ophelia has stopped responding to his letters and gifts. Juxtaposition is a device that is often used to enhance and relate certain aspects of a writing piece. William Shakespeare uses this device in his plays to emphasize characteristics, themes and even scenes. He does this so that the elements that are being highlighted show major significance throughout the tragedy. In Shakespeare’s Hamlet juxtaposition is evident in the circumstances of the characters as well as their morals. Characters in the play that are juxtaposed against each other are Hamlet with Laertes, Hamlet again with Fortinbras and Ophelia with Gertrude. Overall they are parallel to each other and are considered foil characters due to their similarities and even differences.
The interpretation of Hamlet’s, To Be or Not to Be soliloquy, from the Shakespearean classic of the same name, is an important part of the way that the audience understands an interpretation of the play. Although the words are the same, the scene is presented by the actors who portray Hamlet can vary between versions of the play. These differences no matter how seemingly miniscule affect the way in which someone watching the play connects with the title character.
By most accounts, this passage would be taken to mean that he does not kill Claudius because at this time the King is praying, and when praying one's soul will ascend to heaven if one should die. Hamlet wants Claudius to burn in hell; for him to go to heaven would make his revenge void. He will avenge his father's death when Claudius is engaged in some other less holy act, in order to insure the King's place in hell.

He is torn between his duty to avenge his father's death and his inability to kill his uncle; which can be seen in relation to his Oedipal Complex as well.
Shakespeare’s title character Hamlet is the protagonist of the play. He is brave and extremely analytical and indecisive. When the Ghost of Hamlet tells Prince Hamlet that his uncle Claudius is the murderer, hamlet becomes obsessed with providing his uncle’s guilt before trying to act. The approach taken by Shakespeare in Hamlet has generated countless different interpretations of meaning, but it is through Hamlet's struggle to confront his internal dilemma, deciding when to revenge his fathers death, that the reader becomes aware of one of the more common interpretations in Hamlet; the idea that Shakespeare is attempting to comment on the influence that one's state of mind can have on the decisions they make in life. As the play unfolds, Shakespeare uses the encounters that Hamlet must face to demonstrate the effect that one's perspective can have on the way the mind works.
An individual’s response to conditions of internal and external conflict is explored throughout literature. In his play, Hamlet, Shakespeare delves into the themes of appearance versus reality, lies versus deceit, rejection versus self doubt and tragedy, and in doing so attacks the frivolous state of humanity in contemporary society. In order to explore these themes, however, he uses several forms of conflict to project his opinions and expand his ideas relating to the themes of the play. The perfection of Hamlet’s character has been called in question - perhaps by those who do not understand it. The character of Hamlet stands by itself. It is not a character marked by strength of will or even of passion, but by refinement of thought and sentiment. Hamlet is as little of the hero as a man can be. He is a young and princely novice, full of high enthusiasm and quick sensibility - the sport of circumstances, questioning with fortune and refining on his own feelings, and forced from his natural disposition by the strangeness of his situation.
