As one can see, Harriet, Dick and Reverend Lewis Merrill, even though they are all minor characters, affect the major characters, such as Johnny and Owen with their identity, or personality. Without these characters, the novel would never be the same. As Alan Rudolph said, “Human identity is the most fragile thing that we have, and it's often only found in moments of truth.”

While Judith signals that she is not certain about her message by using the modifier 'I think' (cf. Mehrabian 38), Kate can help her out effortlessly, much to Judith's surprise, which is conveyed by her exclamation of 'Oh, wow'. As professors, Kate and Janet do not share the same knowledge about the same topics with Judith, which is emphasised here.

The movie leaves little to viewers' imaginations. In order to be entertained by literature or art, the viewer needs to feel that they can use their imagination and not be confined to a plot that reveals all. In the parable Doubt, the controversial topics presented by John Patrick Shanley sparked differing views that the reader was torn between. It introduced a storyline revolved around a nun accusing a pastor of partaking in inappropriate engagement amongst the alter boys. Since the plot was open-ended and there were no pulmonary guidelines, the reader resolved to using their imagination to deem what direction, and whom they would agree with.... ...
Leavy. The scene that introduces Reverend Russell is at the church after Ben stays with the Wentworth and they go to Sunday mass. The Reverend notices Ben is new, so he invites him to have concessions after the mass. Simon mutters something, and the Reverend asks him to speak up and he responds with “What does coffee and donuts have to do with God?” The reverend responded with that it is normal it is about socializing and talk about upcoming events. Simon escalates the situation which forces the Reverend to yell at him. Simon embarrasses the reverend just from him offering to help Ben meet new people and he turns it into a big scene in front of the whole town. The other crime Simon commits is molesting Marguerite in the Christmas pageant. Simon takes advantage of him playing the baby Christ and Marguerite playing the virgin Mary. He grabs her breast and drags her into the manger which angers Miss Leavy. By doing this, he pushes Miss Leavy over the edge making her take some time off. A hero would not take advantage of another person for their own personal gains and to harm others. He disrespected a tradition in the town with the Christmas pageant by taking advantage of a situation to show heroism by helping out at the pageant, but he uses for his own advantage. Even though he is twelve years old, Simon should know that this act is inappropriate. With these acts Simon shows no respect to almost the whole
In the play “Doubt, a Parable” John Patrick Shanley does a remarkable job constructing a play that leaves his audience with doubt throughout the play from when the beginning till the end. The relationship between Father Flynn and Sister Aloysius is a back and forth conflict between certainty and doubt.
In the famous story that we all were read as children, Mary Poppins, the author P.L. Travers depicts a story of an astonishing nanny who arrives at the Banks household to look after the four children, Michael, Jane, and the twins. Jane and Michael live pretty boring lives before Mary Poppins, the nanny, arrives. These two children are very critical thinkers, and it is apparent that they receive these traits from their parents, so because of this Poppins challenges their beliefs when she arrives. Through many adventures and the character of Poppins, Jane and Michael come to learn that there is not always an answer for all of their questions. To their displeasing, the nanny tells them that they have to use their imagination to come up with answers to all of their questions. Eventually, the children are able to discover their childhood, that seemed to be lost, once the nanny leaves. Throughout the book Poppins takes the children on journeys to help them discover what they are missing out on and help them regain that ability to make believe just as every other kid in the world does.
The ‘Andy Griffiths’ and ‘I love Lucy show’ are two popular sitcom from the early 1950s and 60s that are still relevant in the 21st century. Also, both shows were the typical sitcom that many Americans’ enjoy watching with their children as there was no content of nudity nor inappropriate language. The Lucy’s and Griffiths’ show were very well-known mostly because of the authenticity and raw honesty in the show. Though both shows have same objective in entertaining their audiences; however, there were clear contrast as well as comparison in which how these shows had been produced.

At 80th Front Street, Johnny’s home, he is listening to Dan, Harriet and Tabitha discuss the identity of Johnny's father. Dan does not see anything wrong with Tabitha seeing the singing teacher but Harriet and Johnny think that "the most likely position of my father, and my other's mystery lover, was that 'famous' singing teacher" (111). Nothing happens as promised. Johnny's father is not the 'famous' singing teacher he expected nor is it anyone famous at all. Instead, his father is a faithless reverend, Mr. Merrill. This is not the only thing that does not happen as promised. Owen and Johnny are retracing Tabitha's steps when they find the store that Tabitha claimed had burned down. Confused, Johnny thinks back to what Aunt Martha said: "my mother was a little simple; no one had ever said she was a liar" (350). No one thought that Johnny's mother was hiding the truth, but nothing happens as promised. When Johnny searches for his identity he does not get what he is promised which is supported by Hardy's quote.
The characterization that takes place allows readers to better understand how the relationship between Gabriel and Florence was affected by jealousy and why the conflict between the two lasted for so long. It also gives readers a better understanding of who Gabriel was growing up. Readers see what he was like as a child and the difference in character before becoming a preacher. Baldwin shows the similarities between Roy and Gabriel and also John and Gabriel. Characterization is a crucial aspect to a text because it allows readers to better understand the characters and their motivations. Without the use of characterization, readers would not have been able to fully understand the relationship between Gabriel and Florence and would miss out on seeing how much Gabriel has changed throughout the novel. Baldwin's work allows readers to gain access into the characters lives by expanding the lenses through which they

During our class discussion, we talked about one of the readings that were assigned that week. The reading was Letter to Madame Christina of Lorraine by Galileo. We were split into groups of four and we had to discuss part of the reading that we thought was interesting. Our group decided to pick the second paragraph, because it shows how if one is close minded and stuck in their beliefs, it would be very difficult to convince them that anything other than their beliefs are right, even if there is sustainable evidence to say otherwise. In this paragraph, it explained how there are two types of people. One who has the background and accepts the new claims and those who has the background but does not accept it. Basically, people who are pliable
Over the course of the novel, Jane has trouble finding the correct balance between her moral duties and earthly pleasures, between obligation to her spirit and attention to her body.
