When we are teens we are forced to make more and more choices. These are no longer simple choices they quickly go from picking what flavor we want to what do we want to be when we grow up. Our parents no longer are there to hold our hand through the decision making process. They’ve let go of our hand to let us learn how to make “grown-up choices”. They let go of our hand to let us decide and assume responsibility to the choice we’ve made. We are no longer allowed to say, “I didn’t have another choice” or, “I don’t know.” Question is: Why is it that the second we try to make choices pertaining to our health they try to hold our hand again to walk us through the process, when they have just bored this preconceived idea into our heads that we have to make our own choices? Understanding that not only our parents but our communities want the best for us I strongly believe that they should allow us as teens to make our own autonomous medical choices just as they have taught us to make all other choices. …show more content…

Like stated before we reach an age in which our parents let go of our hands so that we as teens can learn how to make these autonomous choices on our own.Studies show that teens with high-self esteem and self-respect are likely to make good medical choices. This self-esteem and and self-respect is boosted when we are allowed to make choices or when we are involved in making choices that may affect our personal lives forever. Also, the simple fact of listening to our opinions and feelings on certain medical choices help us reach a new level of self-esteem and
