In my opinion, I believe that Lila should be held accountable for her actions. She went on a murder spree and despite the fact that she may have a mental illness, she still committed multiple crimes. Some might argue that her actions are justified, she's upset about her son's death and that the police do not seem to be doing much to solve the case. Lila went out and solved the case on her own, finding out who killed her son, why, and who was involved. She's a grieving mother who just wanted justice for her innocent son. However, what about all the people she killed and their mothers, fighting fire with fire isn't the answer. While Lila does have a mental illness, I don't believe that it should be an excuse for her actions. Lila killed four people, and everyone that was in her home …show more content…
When Lila feels guilty about the young pregnant woman getting shot, Eve was right there to tell her that she shouldn’t feel bad, everyone was getting what they deserved. I don't think that putting Lila in prison is the right way to go about things even though she did commit the crimes, but instead she should be getting mental help. I suggest that maybe instead she be put into a psychiatric ward. There, she will get the help she needs because while she should be held accountable for her actions, the whole situation was not under her control. When she figured out that Eve was not a real person before she blew up her house, she should have gotten help for herself. I think that her getting the help she needs and owning up to the crimes she committed is being held accountable for her actions. However, I do not believe jail is the right place for her due to her needing mental help, I do not think that it should be completely out of the question, she could still get the help she needs while in
There is lots of evidence in the Lizzie Borden murders, but is it enough to say Lizzie Borden killed Mr. and Mrs. Borden? Mr. and Mrs. Borden were killed in their home on August 4th 1892. Their daughter Lizzie Borden was the suspected killer. She was found to be innocent, yet many people still think that Lizzie borden murdered her parents that day. There is a lot of evidence that points to Lizzie being the killer. A lot of things she did and said were very suspicious. Lizzie Borden is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
Ashley’s death could have easily been prevented if she was given proper treatment and help both outside and inside the prison system. Ashley was part of a marginalized group of mentally ill individuals that are easy targets for criminalization in our society. Mental illness impacts all aspects of an individuals life, and instead of seeing it as an illness society sees it as a problem than needs to be dealt with so we don't have to see it. Once mentally ill people become marginalized members of society and once they make one “mistake” we feel the need to place them in the harshest institution so they can be fixed, which is the prison system. Criminalizing marginalized groups is so easy for members of our society, because we no longer see them as on of “us” we see them as people that need to be fixed. Furthermore, the prison system is extremely harmful to individuals with mental illness, the setup and setting of prisons can have detrimental affects to an individuals already ill mental state. This case showed how the criminalization of a mentally ill individual and the lack of treatment within the prison system lead to horrible outcomes, as a society we should stop criminalizing marginalized groups as an easy fix to societal problems and instead we should actively help solve the
I do not believe it would have been just for the state to pardon Tucker’s crimes due to the moral injustice she was responsible for. In Jeffrey Reiman’s article “Against the Death Penalty” he analyzes the principle of lex talionis, which states that one who has harmed another should be penalized to the same or equivalent extent, or as the common phrase goes: “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth”. Reiman arrives at the conclusion that there is an equality between human beings by examining the implications of lex talionis, which implies one thinks of other’s pain to be as great as his or her own. Additionally, Reiman explores the Kantian belief that an individual permits the universal form of the objective which guides his action. For example, if an individual kills someone, then he or she authorizes the concept that he or she may be killed, and in doing so there is no injustice done. Thus, this belief also endorses the equality of individuals and helps grant credibility towards Reimans claim. By using Kant’s theory as a basis for his argument, Reiman asserts the concept of lex talionis “affirms both the equality and rationality of human beings and for that reason [lex talionis] is just” (Reiman). Therefore, I believe it would be unjust to grant Tucker a pardon for her crimes because doing so would lose the equality between human beings. Tucker deserved a grave punishment for the brutal murder of two people, but Tucker did not deserve to die.
Eve’s passing is only the beginning for Denny. He is already in a custody battle for Zoe, with Eve’s parents. In addition to that, Denny is being charged for felony rape, a crime he did not commit; a misunderstanding.
When viewed from a strictly medical, psychological aspect, Andrea Yates medical history indicates that after the birth of her first child, she began to suffer from various forms of depression and suicide attempts. If one only examines the paper trail and doesn’t think beyond what the medical history does or does not indicate, then perhaps, Andrea would be innocent by reason of mental insanity as the 2006 acquittal suggest. However, when viewed form a legal aspect there are several inconstancies that challenge if this former nurse was insane or if she in fact premeditated the murder of her children as well as her acquittal.
Barbra Huttmann’s purpose in writing her story in A Crime of Compassion is to convince people that no matter their beliefs, it is sometimes more humane to let someone die if they are suffering. This was the case with a cancer patient of hers named Mac. She communicates this directly by saying, “Until there is legislation making it a criminal act to code a patient has requested the right to die, we will all of us risk of the same face as Mac” (Huttmann 422).
In 2001, Andrea Yates drowned her five young children in the bathtub of her Houston home while experiencing severe postpartum depression. She was found not guilty by reason of insanity. Pleading insanity didn't help Jack Ruby, the man who killed President Kennedy's assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, though -- the jury found him guilty of murder and convicted him. Who's to judge another person's sanity? In the end, it all comes down to how convincing their argument is.

On August 4, 1892, Andrew Borden and his wife Abby Borden were murdered in their house shortly before noon. Andrew Borden’s body was still warm and the blood was still wet. While the police were investigating the house for clues to who killed Andrew Borden, they found the body of Abby Borden. She was cold and her blood was dry. Abby was killed about ninety minutes before Andrew. So Abby would have been killed around 9:00 to 10:30 am while Andrew was killed around 10:30am to 11:10am. Lizzie Borden would have been the only person in the house during the time of the murders. When the police questioned her, her story about where she was during the murder kept changing.
A new study shows that genetics may be a factor: inherited traits, such as impulsivity, can make a person more or less willing to have sex. Many times the need of sexuality may be uncontrollable. These statistical facts have been approved by NBC News. In this case Gertrude is a very sexual being and in her defense, there is nothing wrong with that. Maybe it is impulsivity that leads her to such needs, who knows, but Hamlet is over obsessed with the fact of his mother being like this. The fact that she moved on quickly after Hamlet senior makes Hamlet furiously angry. Although, she could have shown a little more respect it is up to her own will, what it is she wants to do with her personal life. Also Gertrude
It’s amoral to take away a life of a person who is insane. People who are insane are not conscious of what they do because they do not possess the capability of thinking or behaving like a sensible person. They intend to do stuff that does not make sense or integrate up. Ac...
The problem is whether Doris deserves to be in jail and if she is a threat to society. Also, if she is still associated or in time will associate with the drug dealers. Doris was really naive when she did her crime and was in need of money. She had no idea how bad the things she was doing could affect her life in such a horrible way. She was a teenager trying to make it on her own and had had no experience of real life. She didn’t at the time believe that it was bad or dangerous but just that she needed the money. Prison was very hard on her because she was so young so she left and lived a life in fear but with the knowledge of someone more experienced. She was a good citizen and even volunteered for an organization. She also had kids and taught them to stay away from drugs. This shows that she learned from her mistakes. That’s his
After she's been in jail. she could take care of her four sons. It is a terrible result of what happened to the husband. I don’t think it was necessary for Wendy to kill her husband but I think it would have been better if he was put into jail for what he has put Wendy and her sons throughout their lives. I think that each person deserves to pay for their actions and get consequences like jail time. I think for Wendy that the jail time could be shorter because she did have sons to take care of and I think that her husband should of pay for his actions. I disagree that Wendy should have been put in jail for so long nor her son for so many years. I understand that they manslaughter but Wendy came up with the
As I see it the character of Eve represents myself and the dangers of what I could become if I should permit myself to continue these practices. I believe that the character of Eve is intended to show viewers of the audience, who re-semble her, a mirror of themselves, so they can see how they look from the out-side. It is advantageous to do this through the medium of a film because it al-lows the viewer to see the point from a more objective view then may be pro-vided through other means. I think that this movie is one which will have a ex-tremely powerful effect on such people. It made me realize that this way of con-trolling others is not a natural part of life in general though it has become a natural part of my life.
Sophia has been through alot in her life, some events have more impact than others but they all still make a difference. When Sophia was twelve years old she was simply going to the market with her mother, on the way there she saw something that would change her life forever and send her on a different path. So as any twelve year old does Sophia was walking to the market, when they were about half way there they saw a couple of guards and a man. As people do they became curious as to what was going on so they stopped to find out, the guards tried to convince them to move along, but they did not listen.
