George Orwell writes a dystopian fiction novel called 1984. In 1984, Orwell presents an overbearing dictatorship that is addressed by the government that deprives its citizens of having basic rights. Orwell writes this novel to show what happened when with a loss of voice of judgment in politics. Also Orwell shows how having a voice in government is important. In 1984, Orwell presents warnings about totalitarianism and the revision of history through the novel. The first warning from Orwell is totalitarianism, which plays a major effect on the society in the book. This shows the strong effects that government has over its citizens that they don’t even have freedom of speech, therefore it is easier for the government to keep to control of the citizens. For instance, In today’s society certain speech can only be symbolic, political, and cannot present a danger to others (first amendment rights ) . This makes classifies the speech freedom of speech and this protect the speech from being censored by the government. Also shows how speech and thought is censored to a extent in 1984. In additionally, Orwell presents in his novel how citizens were brainwashed. Orwell adds in the two minutes hate which where citizens were brainwashed into thinking they were always in war with Goldstein and the brotherhood who seen as terrorist in the government eyes. Additionally, In today’s history the moving of the Robert Lee statue in Richmond, VA (Newsome). It has cause a lot of controversy over where removing statue was removing a important part of history. That statue represents the slavery that was taken among African American people and was a confederate commander. The removing of history makes people forget the past as like they say “ history repeats itself”. It makes a ripple effect into the future for the next generation to learn from the previous generation. For Instance, When Orwell was explaining show Winston was losing memory and couldn’t remember exactly if something happened or if it really did happen do to his memory hole ( Orwell 136). Which in ways explains how the government work it shows citizens something but yet they don’t know if actually really happens, or was it fantasy. Another event from the book was when Winston recalls “two plus two equals four” and he is punished till he forced into believing what the party wants which is “two plus two equals five”( Orwell 234). The punishment that government gives Winston helps short mind the citizens to only believe what is told by the government and nothing else. This weakened the mind of the citizens so they can’t revolt against the government because the government is the only thing they know. For example,
