It’s a devastating problem for many people across the globe in the modern era, but what about the 1500s? Romeo and Juliet both experienced first-hand degrees of mental issues during their lifespan. Romeo and Juliet suffered a tragic life, their deaths leading to mental disorders and diseases. Romeo & Juliet both showed clear signs of mental disorders, such as impulsive acting and depression. Juliet also experiences certain mental ultimatums that disables her ability to think properly, In Romeo and Juliet, Juliet often struggles to comprehend herself. She always had a plan b, suicide, and was very anti-social to everyone else but Romeo. Juliet’s mental disorder also caused her death. Juliet suffered from anti-social and conduct disorder. Unable to conduct herself properly and be secluded from society led to a deep depression. In all, Romeo and Juliet both brought this death upon themselves because of their mental illnesses. Some might say that Romeo and Juliet never had mental illnesses, they were just acting like everyone else. It might have been common to have these types of feelings and act irrationally. In Romeo and Juliet, they both acted similarly, which proves that they might have both acted the same way everyone else. However Romeo and Juliet are the only ones in the entire play who have threatened to kill themselves. They are the only two people in the play who go through with killing themselves. One of the most popular theories about irrational behavior is that people’s actual interests will differ from what they believe is really their interest. In other words, what you think you want is not really what you want, it is not what your real interests are. The story of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is about two people from two rival families who fall deeply in love. The two lovers believe that they have been in love since the moment that that they landed eyes on each other. However, this did cause some terrible things to happen, only because they loved each other. Shakespeare's purpose in writing this play was to show that you should not be irrational just because you believe that you want something new.
This is explored through the characters of both lovers, Romeo and Juliet. Near the end of the play, Juliet drinks a potion to make her appear dead to her parents and get her out of an unwanted arranged marriage to a man named Paris. Once her parents would find her dead and place in a tomb with her ancestors, her other lover, Romeo, would get her and they would elope together. However because of miscommunication, Romeo was not aware of this plan and he heard that Juliet had died from someone else. Because of this he goes to see her and decides to kill himself, but after seeing her “dead” body for closure. When Romeo thinks Juliet is dead, he immediately resorts to suicide without once thinking about any other possibilities or considering a life without her. This quick conclusion leads to the unnecessary death of Paris, who also came to meet Juliet, and Romeo, himself, which then leads to Juliet killing herself. Before Romeo drinks poison and commits suicide, he says “Here’s to my love! (drinks the poison) O true apothecary,Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die.” This rash and hasty decision, had it been put off for a minute or so would have resulted in Juliet awakening and the couple living together, which was their goal. In other parts of the play Juliet is quite rash and acts thoughtlessly and very quickly. One example of this is when she wakes up in the tomb and finds out that Romeo is dead. She refuses to listen to Friar Lawrence's pleas, to leave the tomb and come with him to a nunnery. Instead she tells him "Go, get thee hence, for I will not away" (V.iii.165). She tries to poison herself but there is no poison left. When she hears the watch coming, she grabs Romeo's dagger and fatally stabs herself. Juliet is so upset she loses her ability to think rationally and tries to poison herself. Instead of listening to the friar, in desperation, she kills herself with the dagger.
Romeo drank a vile of poison because he heard the news that Juliet had died, but in reality she was asleep awaiting for his rescue. Juliet awakes to the horrifying sight of Romeo’s lifeless corpse where she commits suicide in the fashion of stabbing herself with Romeo’s dragger. Though both Romeo and Juliet seem to progress through the Five Stages of Grief in an instant. In the case of Romeo, he initially denies the news of Juliet’s “death” and then retorts to searching for a means he should use to kill himself. Romeo experienced the first stage of denial and skips all the stages until acceptance where he acknowledged the terms of the situation and believed that suicide is the best method in order to be with Juliet forever. “Romeo felt cold, even in that terrible heat … ‘It can’t be!’ said Romeo at last … Romeo had made up his mind. He would sleep with Juliet that night. The only question was what means should he use to kill himself? He felt nothing- his only though was to get Juliet and be with her forever” (Shakespeare 94). On the other hand, based on the inferences from the text, Juliet doesn’t seem to experience the Five Stages of Grief at all and appears as if she has given up hope and decide to die to live by

Their lives were messy. Their relationship was complex. And they certainly did act irrationally. Romeo and Juliet quickly fell in love at the beginning of the plot in the play, named after them, created by Shakespeare. To be able to escape from her home and be with her love, Juliet drank a potion that made her seem dead. Romeo, not knowing about the plan, took his life at the sight of her “dead” body. William Shakespeare wrote the play Romeo and Juliet about two “star-crossed lovers” who take their own lives in order to be together. What could have possibly cause this other than the fact that they were in love? Human errors, that’s what. Firstly, Romeo and Juliet were from two separate households, and all they did was cause trouble between them. The families’ discrepancies were a major human error which led to the deaths. The second reason is that the two characters were not in love, and that they tricked each other into thinking they were. Eventually, the poor timing of many characters proves that the deaths were induced by human error. If the Friar and Nurse hadn’t been so incapable of keeping things in good timing, the lovers may still be alive.

While the readers are hoping that Romeo and Juliet will end up together, their impulsive behaviors lead to death. Juliet's impulsive behavior to fake her own death without clarification that Romeo had received the friar's letter caused Romeo to kill himself.

Once he makes his choice, he does not spend enough time considering what he should do, and so he is not thinking clearly about what exactly he is doing and how it affects not only him, but the people around him. A Psychological Analysis of Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet was obviously not written to fit the psychoanalytic model, as the theories of Freud were not developed for centuries after Shakespeare. Shakespeare wrote about Renaissance England, a culture so heavily steeped in Christianity, that it would have blushed at the instinctual and sexual thrust of Freud’s theory. However, in order to keep literature alive and relevant, a culture must continually reinterpret the themes and ideas of past works. While contextual readings assure cultural precision, often these readings guarantee the death of a particular work. There is a lot of talk right now about guns ending up in the hands of children. Accidental shootings, kids taking weapons to school, and just overall violence on the streets or in our neighborhoods. Providing education on gun safety is important to parents, grandparents, caregivers, and children, but often; it isn’t enough. We have to go one step further in protecting family at home and then the ones we love will be more protected outside of the home as well.
