Loyalty is giving firm and constant support and allegiance to someone. Throughout The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, written by William Shakespeare there are multiple characters with conflicting loyalties. Antony is completely loyal to Caesar, while Brutus attempts to be loyal to both Caesar and the people of Rome. Brutus’ conflicting loyalties and uncertainties led to his demise, while while Antony’s strong loyalty to Caesar led to his success. Brutus, a noble Roman senator, is loyal to both Caesar and people of Rome. This makes it hard for Brutus to make a decision when Cassius tries to get him to join the conspiracy, but when he gets the letter from the concerned citizen, he decides to join. Brutus states, “ To speak and strike? O Rome, I make thee promise,/If the redress will follow, thou receivest/Thy full petition at the hand of Brutus”(II.i.56-58). Brutus chooses his loyalty to Rome over his loyalty to Caesar; however, He never completely forgets his loyalty to Caesar as he continues to doubt his decisions. …show more content…
