Evil is in this world today. No matter how much good happens in the world ,evil always rears its
face. In Night by Elie Wisel he faces a situation where he sees the real evil in humanity. No
matter were people go evil dominates.Even though there is good in the world evil dominates in
human nature, causing a loss in humanity.
Mrs Schächter was beaten and tied up by her own kind in front of her own child. Elie Wiesel
beheld this event. “She received several blows to the head, blows that could have been lethal.
Her son was clinging desperately to her, not uttering a word. He was no longer crying.”(Wiesel
26 ) . This shows the brutal and heartless behavior shown towards her by the passengers on the

No one takes care of her they just shut her up just to get their own few
hours sleep. This means that the passengers humanity is the one that comes into to question their
the ones whose humanity is tainted.Babies were being thrown into fire. Elie Wiesel gawked at
the scene that he saw” A truck drew close and unloaded its hold: small children. Babies! Yes, I
did see this, with my own e y e s ... c h i l - dren thrown into the flames.”This shows how evil the
the ss were, they were sick twisted immoral people who thought burning children was ok.this
means the germans humanity was tainted with pure evil with no chance of ever changing. These
two situation show how evil is the dominate force in the world no matter however you look at it
Elie wisel and so many others were forced to run twenty kilometers with little food and if they
could not keep up they were shot and killed:” Faster, you filthy dogs! We were no longer
marching, we were running. Like automatons. The SS were running as well, weapons in hand.
We looked as though we were running from them.”(wisel 85) This shows the germans treating the jewish
people being less than people taking their humanity from them and treating them like a filth
stray dog. This means the german people this takes taints and destroys the german peoples humanity by taking away the jewish peoples humanity. A old man steels a piece of bread for him and his son but ultimately ending with the boy killing his father: “Meir, my little Meir! Don’t you recognize me … You’re killing your father … I have bread …..for you too …..for you too….”. This shows how poorly the jewish people were being treated that a son had to kill his own father for a crust of bread. This means that the condition was so bad that they were killing just to have a crust of bread turning against each other like wild animals. This taint the humanity of the germans and the jews. Even though there is good in the world evil dominates in human nature, causing a loss in humanity. What Elie Wisel lived through proves the evil dominates in human nature. no mater how much good happened to him in the camp evil always came on top and dominated.
In the book Night by Elie Wiesel there were countless acts that would be classified as inhuman. For example the hanging of an angelic pipel, or killing one’s father for a piece of bread. Although both acts are extremely inhuman, hanging a child is more inhuman than killing one’s father for a piece of bread. Yet, to kill someone’s father for a bread is more in keeping with human nature in the fact that it is done for survival.
A story of a young boy and his father as they are stolen from their home in Transylvania and taken through the most brutal event in human history describes the setting. This boy not only survived the tragedy, but went on to produce literature, in order to better educate society on the truth of the Holocaust. In Night, the author, Elie Wiesel, uses imagery, diction, and foreshadowing to describe and define the inhumanity he experienced during the Holocaust.
Elie’s father sacrificed his bread ration as a result of giving it to Elie. Elie’s father recognized his son’s hunger and desperation for food, and choose to put aside his own to ease his son’s. “I was dreadfully hungry and swallowed my ration on the spot… and seeing… that there was nothing left of my ration, he did not even begin his own. “Personally, I’m not hungry,” he said” (Wiesel 29). Elie’s father also exhibited empathy to a Jew named Meir Katz, during the ride to Buchenwald. Meir Katz had pried an unknown attacker off of Elie during the night, and the next day seemed to give up hope. “ “Chlomo, I’m getting weak. I’m losing my strength . i can’t hold on…”(Wiesel 68). Nevertheless, Elie’s father tried to revitalize Meir Katz’s dying hope. “ “Don’t let yourself go under… You must resist. Don’t lose faith in yourself.” ” (Wiesel 68). Elie’s father demonstrated kindness in attempting to motivate Meir Katz, and proffering his bread ration to
According to the definition, inhumane is described as an individual without compassion for misery or sufferings. The novel Night by the author Elie Wiesel, illustrates some aspects of inhumanity throughout the book. It is evident in the novel that when full power is given to operate without restraint, the person in power becomes inhumane. There are many examples of inhumanity in this novel. For instance, "Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the little faces of the children, whose bodies I saw turned into wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky." Through this quote Elie is explaining his first night at camp and what he saw will be in his head forever - unforgettable. In my opinion, the section in the novel when the Germans throw the babies into the chimney is very inhuman. An individual must feel no sympathy or feelings in order to take such a disturbing action. In addition to that "For more than half an hour stayed there, struggling between life and death, dying in slow agony under our eyes. And we had to look him full in the face. He was still alive when I passed in front of him. His tongue was still red, his eyes were not yet glazed." This is also very inhumane example since the child's weight wasn’t enough to snap his neck when he was hung and so he is slowly dying painful death as all Jewish people walk by him, being forced to watch the cruelty.
In his book Night Mr. Elie Wiesel shares his experiences about the camps and how cruel all of the Jews were treated in that period. In fact, he describes how he was beaten and neglected by the SS officers in countless occasions. There are very few instances where decent humans are tossed into certain conditions where they are treated unfairly, and cruel. Mr. Wiesel was a victim of the situation many times while he was in the camps. Yet he did not act out, becoming a brute himself, while others were constantly being transformed into brutes themselves. Mr. Wiesel was beaten so dreadfully horrible, however, for his safety, he decided to not do anything about it. There were many more positions where Mr. Wiesel was abused, malnourished, and easily could have abandoned his father but did not.
The lines that define good and evil are not written in black and white; these lines tend to blur allowing good and evil to intermingle with each another in a single human being.
Through the many issues our society has experienced, inhumanity is one of them. In the past, people of the world have experienced all types of mayhem. There have been powerful incidents that have occurred since the Holocaust which show that to this day inhumanity is still present in modern time. In the book Night, by Elie Wiesel, there are a lot of examples of inhumanity. The main character Elie has to endure hard times. One example is when he was forced to go to a concentration camp, or when he was stripped from his home, or when he and his family were split in half. Even though some people do not agree, the book Night is still relevant in present day because inhumanity still exists.
“Inside each of us, there is the seed of both good and evil. It's a constant struggle as to which one will win. And one cannot exist without the other” (Eric Burdon). People do not think they are doing good or evil, they just think that they are doing the right thing. Evil comes from within each one of us. You just need to something to bring it out.
After the chaos was over, two corpses were lying next to Elie. At that moment , he realized that the boy could have been him, and he older man could have been his father. Elie was traumatized by the interaction of this young boy and the elder man, and thought of this easily becoming himself, and his father fighting to the death. The evidence from what Ellie has experience not only shows, but proves that Evil is developed when people are put through traumatizing events, like when Ellie watched a juvenile abuse his own father over food. To add, he said he was only fifteen due to the fact that he witnessed a scarring event at an extremely young age. While Evil is shown in Night by placing characters through traumatic events, it is also similarly
Human beings are the only creatures capable of evil. The human race harms one another and animals for fun and destroys the environment. The only thing evil can be specifically defined is that it is a human characteristic.
Irish Playwright, George Bernard Shaw, once said, “The worst sin toward our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them; that's the essence of inhumanity.” Inhumanity is mankind’s worse attribute. Every so often, ordinary humans are driven to the point were they have no choice but to think of themselves. One of the most famous example used today is the Holocaust. Elie Wiesel’s memoir Night demonstrates how fear is a debilitating force that causes people to lose sight of who they once were. After being forced into concentration camps, Elie was rudely awakened into reality. Traumatizing incidents such as Nazi persecution or even the mistreatment among fellow prisoners pushed Elie to realize the cruelty around him; Or even the wickedness Elie himself is capable of doing. This resulted in the loss of faith, innocence, and the close bonds with others.
When people are placed in difficult, desolate situations, they often change in a substantial way. In Night by Elie Wiesel, the protagonist, Elie, is sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp where he undergoes many devastating experiences. Due to these traumatic events, Elie changes drastically, losing his passion in God, becoming disconnected with his father, and maturing when it matters most.
“All Jews were unclean, subhuman, like maggots in a rotting body.” claimed the leader of the Nazi party (The Holocaust Camps 13). Adolf Hitler came to believe this by his early encounters with the Jews in Germany. These interactions lead Hitler to believe that all of the Jews were the cause of Germany's problems. The events of the Holocaust go beyond just inhumane acts; This inhumanity was shown from the Jews being treated like animals, physically abused, and mentally scared for life if they get the chance to survive.
People are evil at heart because they choose to kill innocent people and attack other people with different beliefs.
Many will argue that while there is evil everywhere, we can find examples of kindness and cooperation in the world. This is a justifiable statement b...
