The Outsiders represents many forms of how emotions may alter you. How emotions alter you is a very popular theme in The Outsiders. Emotions can change how you act in two ways, one of the two ways is letting your feelings out on someone, the other way is ignoring everyone and go away privately. A outrageous event happened last year in Marysville, WA that represented a boy who shot 4 teens and himself. This relates to my theme that states how emotions can affect you because Jaylen Fryberg, the kid who shot 4 teens, suffered bullying and depression, which are emotions that can compose you to do terrible things such as that. The Outsiders presents how emotions can change you many times. Darry gets in an argument with Ponyboy, then he gets madder and madder until he can’t take it anymore, “Darry wheeled around and slapped my so hard that it knocked me against the door” (44). This was a very prominent thing that happened within this story. Darry suddenly slaps Ponyboy directly in the face. Ponyboy was infuriated. “I turned and ran out the door and down the street as fast as I could” (44). Ponyboy was so mad at Darry for punching him in the face, so he bolted out of the door and that was the last of Ponyboy, Darry and Sodapop saw for a while. This part in the book, lead to another part when Johnny was fighting for his life as a result to them running away. Dally and Ponyboy went to see Johnny in the hospital when he was in critical condition. As they were talking to him, they could tell he had very little energy, “‘Damnit Johnny…’ He begged, slamming one fist against the wall, hammering it to make it obey his will, ‘Oh, damnit, Johnny, don't die, please don't die… ‘ He suddenly bolted through the door and down the hall” (126-127).
