. Noble Eco-Savage (Avatar) is a stereotype used today that basically describes all indigenous people as being good at caring for our environment, and never doing any harm to it. In the movie Avatar this is very true for the movie Avatar even if it is not so true in our real world. The Navi are very thankful to their environment and waste very little as well. They believe everything is a cycle and even proceed to thank there prey and apologize after they kill it. You see this example in the film when Jake Sully kills his prey and then proceeds to caress it, apologize for killing it, then proceed to tell it why he killed it. This was a huge change for Jake because at the beginning of the movie Jake was about to get attacked by strange creatures and Neytiri killed them. After she killed them she scolded him and said “they did not have to die.” She then proceeded to call him a baby for not understanding why they did not have to die. …show more content…
Another example of them being noble eco savages is that they believe in this tree as being there God and when its small white dandelion looking leafs fall on them they will not brush it off or be harsh with it. The NAvi people are perfect examples of noble eco savages.
To conclude, there are clearly many ways in which the events of chapter 12 and the movie “Avatar” resemble each other. Not only are there numerous examples of similarities, but there are also numerous examples of differences as well. For instance, the whites tried to remove the Native Americans from their homelands, and the humans tried to remove the Na’vi from their homelands. Although, the whites succeeded, whereas the humans did not. In addition, many people died in both cases, however, in different ways.
As I read the essay, I started to realize that while David Suzuki based this essay on nature and the wildlife, the deeper meaning within is not actually just about nature; instead, it is about parents influencing kids to think a certain way rather than letting them experience it firsthand and unbiased, and I believe that as society is changing, more people are focusing on fitting into the norm rather than trying things out on their own and having their own opinions. The First Nations have a special connection with nature and animals. Since the beginning of their civilization the First Nations as a whole have respected, and protected nature with an unparalleled love for it. The Natural world was always co-existed with and used from only to quell needs, not wants. [1] As you can imagine, this might have caused problems when the Europeans came to North America and started to deplete all of the resources that the Aboriginals protected. Take example of the mass slaughter of bison on the Great Plains throughout the 1850’s. But, this was prior to the climax of the Fur Trade. The Europeans brought with them Guns, Alcohol and other tools that disrupted the First Nation’s natural life of hunting and fishing for only what they needed. Dependencies on alcohol started a chain of negative events for the First Nations as a whole. [2] As well as disrupting their lifestyle; the Europeans depleted the resources that the First Nations depended on most for survival. Not to mention, removing animals vital to a successful ecosystem and of spiritual importance from the area, causing European and First Nation conflict. [3]
The American science fiction film ‘Avatar’, directed by James Cameron is about Jake Sully, a paralysed former marine who becomes an avatar to take his place on a mission on the distant world of Pandora. There, he meets the Na’vi people and gets attached to living in harmony with nature, where he must save their land when being attacked by humans. The story line of Avatar follows closely with ‘The Hero’s Journey’ which focuses on how the main character is experiencing a change from his ordinary world, turning into an avatar to explore a new world. Primarily, Avatar captures a call to adventure to begin the hero’s journey. The film also explores a new approach with crossing the first threshold of the hero’s joinery which is conveyed through a range of cinematic techniques. Furthermore, Sully experiences a major ordeal followed by a reward shown in a variety of dramatic shots.

Avatar the motion picture throws you into a rich world, with diverse characters who clash over cultural and socio-economic issues. At the heart of the story is a former Marine named Jake Sully, who falls in love while on an alien planet with a woman from a race of people called the Na’vi. The character whom he falls in love with is an alien for which he sacrifices his whole way of life to be with. By way of his experiences with the Na’vi, he begins to adopt a new worldview, which can only be described as Pantheism.

The most obvious reason that the environment has moral significance is that damage to it affects humans. Supporters of a completely human-centered ethic claim that we should be concerned for the environment only as far as our actions would have a negative effect on other people. Nature has no intrinsic value; it is not good and desirable apart from its interaction with human beings. Destruction and pollution of the environment cannot be wrong unless it results in harm to other humans.
