The Holocaust was a major and catastrophic event for Jews. Approximately 6 million Jews died during this turning point in the world. Night by Elie Wiesel is a book that is based on the true story of the Holocaust and his experiences during the Holocaust. It starts with a boy named “Elizier” who lives in a town called “Sighet”, and is moved from concentration camp to concentration camp trying to survive with his father. The Nazis dehumanized the Jews to the point where they didn’t even have an identity, they beat them and made them feel as if they were tools to use. The Nazis made the Jews lose their identity as the novel progresses by dehumanizing them and depriving them of basic needs. They gave them numbers such as “A-7713” Instead of a proper name, they stripped them of their clothing and were given clothing that did not fit them. …show more content…

The Nazis made them feel that they didn’t have an identity, which is the reason why so many Jews in the Holocaust would be so protective of random items; it is because that is all they have left of their identity. There are many reasons as to how the Jews were dehumanized: one of them being that the Nazis beat the Jews for little to no reason and did not feel anything from beating the Jews. The Nazis were taught that the Jews were not fit to be human because of Hitler's teachings; so they beat them because Jews were nothing but a nuisance to them. “The officer came closer and shouted at him to be silent.
