Courage can be defined as a “the ability to do something that frightens one”(dictionary.com). In Harper Lee’s novel To kill a mockingbird one character named Atticus Finch explains in his own words what true courage means, and says “when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see through it no matter what”(Lee 149) . For example the courage that Atticus shows by helping Tom Robinson when he knows he is going to be criticized, but he knows it’s the right thing to do. The world and the people show many examples of true courage. Also the false ways people measure courage. To conclude the characters in to kill mockingbird all show examples of courage.

Anyone who stands up for their beliefs is known as courageous. For example, Martin Luther king jr was very courageous because of what he did to end segregation between black and whites.
