The use of anthropomorphism throughout the novel was significant as to how Orwell wanted to portray the way humanity can be twisted. Orwell wanted to give the audience a chance to see that animals and humans have many similarities when it comes to power: “All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others”(Orwell 118). Anthropomorphism was effective in this story due to the fact that the author managed to make human relations with animals in order to bring a reader closer to a character. Equality has been an issue over the years for a variety of reasons and when people read this book, they can almost feel what kind of vulnerability the animals are feeling. In the Novel, George Orwell portrayed the manipulation of speech through a character named Squealer, a pig who acted as a messenger for Napoleon: “(Squealer always spoke of it as a “readjustment,” never as a “reduction”)”(Orwell 98). Squealer used assertion to better Napoleon’s views and he knew how to manipulate and to get the animals to work without them getting suspicious of all the injustice. The animals were not as arrogant as the citizens during the revolution; at least the people they had better understandings of what is going on. Another form of propaganda that was used was Pinpointing the enemy when the pigs started to twist the seven commandments and very first commandment read: “Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy” (Orwell 21). Later on, the pigs started to walk on their hind legs and showing off their dominance with whips and luxuries that were forbidden before the commandments started to be changed. Humans were seen as enemies and were never to be encountered, but the pigs felt that they were dominant in intelligence, they thought they were up to the level of a human. Bandwagon was used to manipulate the animals into doing what everyone else was doing: “If Comrade Napoleon says it, it must be right”(Orwell 73).
