Owing to the limitation of situation, Andy, the noble man, started to help with the money laundry issues for the Warden, but secretly, he had kept a copy without noticing the Warden, which was the evidence owned by Andy which could be used to negotiate with the Warden.
Thirdly is the funding project for the library in the prison. After being assigned as the keeper of the library, Andy had tried his best to write to the government for funds to rebuild the library in the prison, which was successful at last. The fund raising activities of Andy was the outcome of being a responsible accountant for the entire prison and he was trying his best to favor others in the prison.

It was the foundation for his reputation and possibility of freedom. Secondly, even though professional skills could help the illegal affairs, and there are many reports about the dark side of being an accountant, for instance it would be easy for them to choose illegal activities in cheating on the origin of the money, the accountants could still choose to be just and noble. Thirdly, an accountant could do favor to society with the fund raising willingness and skills. It is a job that could help the society to make progress. We were the lords of all creation. As for andy he spent that break hunkered in the shade, a strange little smile on his face, watching us drink his beer." This quote shows how little things teh prisoners get can make them happy.Another example would be when he used the hammer to escape from prison. It started when he asked Red to get him a rok hammer, which he said he would use to shape rocks. He calms Red's conscious as he tells it would take him a thousand years to break out of prison with a rosk hammer. When he received the rosk hammer he started to shape rocks as soon as he could and hidden that hole with a poster. After he had the hole big enough to crawl throught, he asked Heywood for a six-foot piece of rope.
The new prisoners stand linked together with chains, scared to death, in front of the Warden. He says, " I believe in two things, discipline and the Bible. Here you"ll receive both. Put your trust in the Lord, your ass belongs to me. " That was the kind of attitude Andy would have to live with from now on, and this was just the beginning.
The creators of this movie used several effective, and often subtle, methods to illustrate the hope found in Andy and his surroundings. Andy was always portrayed as a clean-cut and well-groomed prisoner with his shirt always buttoned and his hair always combed. This self-respect was in great contrast to the other prisoners who were portrayed as dirty, stereotypical prisoners. The common prisoners also had vocabularies and grammar that were far inferior to Andy’s. The distinctions between Andy and the common prisoners showed that Andy was different, those differences were that he had hope.
Warden Samuel Norton heard about Andy helping Hadley and organize a random cell search at Andy’s. The warden meets Andy transfers him to work at the prison library with Brooks Hatlen and gave him a desk in order to help the guards and himself with banking issues. Andy eventually ends up doing Norton's taxes.
"The Shawshank Redemption" is a compelling film about two imprisoned convicted murderers. Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), is innocent, however. Convicted of killing his wife and her lover (a crime for which he clearly had a strong motive), he really "didn't do". Of course, as his jailbird friend "Red" (Morgan Freeman) puts it, "Everybody in here is innocent." Well, Red is "the only guilty man" in Shawshank Prison. As their friendship develops, Andy learns the ropes of prison. Meanwhile, the warden (Bob Gunton) decides that Andy, a well- educated former banker could carry out something more useful than laundry. So, he places Andy as the prison librarian, and later, as his an accountant (he does taxes for all the jail's employees). Andy also assists the warden in money scams (as he tells Red, "I was always an honest man - I had to come to jail to become a crook!")
Andy loses his best friend in a car wreck after drinking and driving. This affects Andy greatly. Draper shows Andy having to go to therapy for his depression from losing Robert. The beginning of therapy sessions were not great. Andy
This venture of his takes years to complete and loads of commitment. One reason why it may help him maintain his self-respect is because he has a project to put forth effort and determination into. Andy is so committed and determined to get the library, that he writes one letter a week to the state senate for funds. Once the senate sends him two hundred dollars to shut him up, he begins writing two letters a week until he is granted what he wants. From beginning to end, Andy turns a one room library into an expansive three-room library. Determination like this is typically only put forth by a person if they are truly passionate about something. Andy’s determination is made visible during his second interview with the warden. Andy is arguing with the warden and the warden threatens him by saying, “‘And while you’re in, think about this: if anything that’s been going on should stop, the library goes. I will make it my personal business to see that it goes back to what it was before you came here’” (King 71). Here, Andy’s determination is put on display by him simply not acting. He chooses to restrain himself and keep everything that he has worked so hard for in the prison. This determination and passion probably takes Andy’s mind off his situation and gives him a purpose to continue to live, thereby boosting his self-respect. Another reason that the library helps Andy maintain his

The Shawshank Redemption is a 1997 drama film which takes place in a prison during the late 40’s. The film focuses on Andy Dufresne’s transition from his old life as banker to becoming a prisoner in the Shawshank penitentiary. The life shown in the Shawshank penitentiary is similar to that of normal society such as norms, economic transactions, and functions both prisoners and the officials. The roles the prisoners and officials take shows that Functionalism does not only take place in a normal functioning society, it also takes place in a total institution such as the prison shown in the film.
The film illustrates the subculture within the fictional Shawshank State Prison in Maine. In this prison, inmates fulfill certain roles such as the dominant, masculine male, the helpless, feminine man, and the inmate that stands out. This is similar to real prisons and helps develop specific culture, expectations of behaviors and norms, and values within the prison. In Shawshank Redemption good and evil though personalities were shown as opposite to the stereotypes society holds. We would expect characters like the warden and the guards to be good people yet we are proved different after watching the movie. The same thing is shown with some of the prison inmates. This shows us how society sets norms that portray law enforcers as good and prisoners as evil; Shawshank challenges these stereotypes.
