Is Ambition Good or Bad? “If you have a burning ambition and desire, absolutely anything can be achieved”. In the play Macbeth, the lead character wants to be king. His ambition drives him to his path of success. But, his ambition also pushed him to do something that wasn’t too good. The word ambition is saying a person will do everything out of their way to accomplish their goals. He cares about doing what he needs to care about. In my opinion, ambition can be either good or bad. Why? The good part is, a person would have high self esteem to accomplish what they want. He/She can get further in life by thinking highly of themselves. The bad part is, he/she may think they’re better than everyone else because they want to be better. Some people hate someone who wants to …show more content…
Ambition is what drives people to accomplish great things. Without it, nothing great would ever get accomplished. It is more positive than negative. People who want to be more, know more, do more, give more or have more, have a powerful internal drive that leads them to dream big and get further in life. Their ambition drives them to accomplish their goals. (The Remarkably Positive Power of Ambition by Peter Economy). This evidence partially supports my claim is because, the evidence is explaining why and how ambition is beneficial to us. Ambitious people have a gleam in their eyes as they approach their goals. They vibrate at a higher level and have a contagious enthusiasm about accomplishing things. They inspire and motivate others. (The Remarkably Positive Power of Ambition by Peter Economy). People who are ambitious will get further in life because, they are accomplishing their goals one step at a time. Others can get motivated and do good by seeing someone accomplish their
Any goal in life is achieved through ambition, fueled by determination, desire and hard work. Ambition maybe a driving force to success or to a pit of failure, the path chosen by an individual determines the end. Remember that any goal to be fulfilled needs desire, desire that strives to do good or greedy desire that is selfish. Also the actions that contribute to our ‘hard work’ need to be morally and ethically right to enjoy the sweet success. However, when the desire and determination is stronger than conscience, many tend to fail often reach or don’t reach what they strived for, leaving them emotionally or even physically dead. The inner lying consequence of ambition is clearly stated by Napoleon, he quotes “Great ambition is the passion of a great character. Those endowed with it may perform very good or very bad acts. All depends on the principals which direct them”. The undesirable consequence of ambition can be observed in the lives of the protagonists of ‘The Great Gatsby and Macbeth. This describes the direction in which ambition is driven could change the end result, it is simply based on the individual itself rather than the dream they seek to achieve. Therefore, the strong drive of ambition helps the seeker attain their goal but greedy desires and wrong paths taken eventually lead to downfall.
Having just enough ambition is what will drive people to be great and do great. Ambition is what makes us accomplish things without backing down until we get to where we want to be. Beowulf not once ever doubted himself, he did consider that things could happen but he had the upmost confidence that he would
Many people have different definitions of the two words, “greed” and “ambition”; some may say they are negative traits and some may say they are positive traits. Ambition is the burning desire and urge to aspire to complete your goals or succeed. Ambition can be a great thing if it is used to better a situation, but sometimes it is used negatively. Another word that can be a positive force or a negative force to acquire something is greed. Greed is something almost everyone has. It is the selfish desire to acquire more than one needs. Greed can also be a positive thing, but normally it is a defective trait, that brings out the worst in people. It results in the need for more and it increases, causing the person to never be satisfied. There
Ambition makes or breaks a man. In the case of Macbeth and Richard III, it broke them quicker than anything ever could. They turned into reckless tyrants. One had a promising future, the other was doomed to a villainous life from the beginning. One turned into a monster, the other was one was one all along. If you are ambitious enough, opportunity will knock, but you may not always want to answer.
Ambition is frequently seen as desirable - it provides purpose, motivation to work hard, and a goal to strive towards. Yet it also has a dangerous side, when it becomes too great and out of control. Although ambition is often positive, excess of it can have detrimental effects. This unrestrained ambition is predominant in the tragedy of Macbeth. In this play, Shakespeare employs the use of hallucination, blood, and prophecy motifs to emphasize the theme of ambition, which, when goes unchecked by moral constraints, wreaks destruction upon an individual.
For the play’s entirety, Shakespeare reveals the devastating repercussions of unchecked ambition. Usually, ambition is thought as a positive trait that drives one to achieve and succeed. However, in Macbeth, Shakespeare conveys the opposite. Someone as innocent as Macbeth could end up the way he did all because of ambition. Shakespeare shows us how Macbeth had reached the moment in life, different for each of us, when a man either abandons himself to his fate or to his rebirth, two paths that either bid one's life to crumble or outdo
...rn day society, illusive ambitions can be incredibly detrimental, just as they are demonstrated to be in Macbeth. Ambitions, if they are untamed, can be an impediment to free will; they can overpower your good conscience, possibly leading you into causing death and destruction. They can also corrupt one’s mental health, while practically morphing that person’s perception of reality into something demonstrably wrong and twisted. Finally, they can boost ones ego to a point where that person is engulfed and imprisoned in the vehemence of their own denial, which can ultimately bear fatal consequences. If one’s hopes and desires are innately destructive, then it logically follows that that one’s ambition is also innately destructive; be wary of one with an immense ambition.
Motivation is the main element towards success. Students, scientist, teachers and/ or any individual who wants to reach a goal needs to be motivated/ambitious. This motivation/ambition is what guides and keep people going. This ambition may be geared towards inventing/creating something, obtaining more money, and/or succeeding. The ambition people have are good, but sometimes lead to bad consequences. These consequences set the relationship between action and ambition. But, no matter what the goal is people with ambitions will not stop until their goal is met. Ambition towards obtaining something is what motivates people. For example Victor Frankenstein wanted to create a human being. As Mary Shelley writes in "Frankenstein", Victor Frankenstein wanted to be "the first to break through life and death ideal bonds"(231). His ambition was to create a human and to break these boundaries. But most importantly, he wanted to be recognized as the first individual to do this. This recognition would make him famous forever. The only thing he thought of was to break the boundaries of life and create a human creature.
Ambition can be a positive thing or a negative thing. It is a positive thing when it helps you reach a certain goal and strive for something that is good. It is a negative thing when you let it take over, and you lose track of your original goal, and forget about your morals and about everyone around you. The only thing you care about is what you want, and you will do anything in your power to get it. This happens frequently in our world.
... can be a good thing if used for the people’s best interest. For example, if Macbeth were motivated to keep Scotland safe and prosperous, ambition would be a good thing. Macbeth also portrays ambition as being dangerous and harmful. Shakespeare had a real insight to how ambition could either help or harm a person.
An ambition is an eager, and sometimes an inordinate, desire for preferment, honor, superiority, power, or the attainment of something. To obtain object or goal that is immensely desired. It comes from the Middle English word “ambicioun,” meaning and excessive desire for power, money or wealth. Ambition is something that everyone, no matter their age or cultural background, has instinctively. Ambition can be a driving force for success, or in some cases a road to failure. Through ambitious undertakings we can set goals and find ourselves and our God-given talents.
The desire for success or fame engulfs individuals’ lives and drive their every need. In William Shakespeare’s play, Macbeth, ambition controls the lives of the characters. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth’s ambition cloud their judgment and lead to their downfall. Both characters use a negative ambition to make decisions and commit actions.
When I think of ambitious people I think of dreamers. These are the people with hopes of one day conquering and ruling the world single handedly, and having everything work out just the way they want it to. I also feel that an ambitious person is a confident one. And because of this, they feel there is nothing they cannot accomplish. There are they types of people who often set goals so high and glamorous that they often set themselves up for disappointment when things do not work out their way. This, I guess, would qualify to be one of the disadvantages of ambition. But since I am the kind of person who believes that the sky is the limit, and if you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything, I choose to stay away from the disadvantages of ambition for the time being.
Ambition is defined as a strong desire to do or to achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work. Some may look at this to as a bad thing or a good thing. Some may say that i moderation it is fine. For example, in Julius Caesar, Brutus kills Caesar for having too much ambition. A tragic fall is considered when the main character lets something less than what they are bring them down. When they let their flaw get to them and drive them towards their own demise. The reason people see this is a bad thing is because it can lead to making the person do bad things that will result in possibly dangerous consequences. The reason why some may think ambition is good is because sometimes it is the only thing motivating someone
