It is easy to abuse powers once you have obtained them, but once you start abusing it, you want more; then you can’t stop. James Madison says, “The essence of Government is power; and power, lodged as it must be in human hands, will ever be liable to abuse.” Which means if humans have power, they have an option whether it can be abused and how it will be abused. The government must have power, or it would not be a government at all, but if it goes into one human hand it will be abused. In The Crucible, Reverend Parris abused his position and power for himself to get more wood from the town, and once his daughter was accused of witchcraft he notices that it can ruin his reputation and starts to defend his daughter for his own needs. A real life example of someone abusing brother could be an older sibling who takes care of you when your parents are gone, or even corrupt police. When I was little, my cousin lived with me and my other siblings, but when my parents left to work or a party, he started to be mean to me and started calling me names and demanded me to do things for him. Another example is when me and my friend knew a guy, whom we visited often who was a regular employer who then became a police officer. He was the nicest guy I’ve ever met, but once he became a police officer, he changed a lot compared to that of his earlier self. Once he became an officer, he started to feel powerful and became commanding and acted like he knew about the world, and knew better choices for us. It was really upsetting, so we stopped visiting because we knew if we kept sticking around conflicts might start happening between us. In real life, many try to use others just like The Crucible to their advantage like for example, being the daughter of the President can influence the daughter to think that she can get whatever she wants whenever she wants just, because she knows her father is the United States President. In my case scenario, a cousin being older than me thinks that he knows what’s best for my life and thinks that I am lower than him and that I have to serve him, just because he is older than I am. “The essence of Government is power; and power, lodged as it must be in human hands, will ever be liable to abuse.” means if humans have power it can be and will be abused. The people who should have power are the people who are going to protect this country, and not people who are greedy who only care for themselves.
