Graphic design. An ever growing and ever changing field. Graphic design has changed vastly over the years, and still continues to change. As technology evolves and trends change, those whom make a living designing have to change themselves and their style of designing. Although trends alone do not drive how graphic design changes, it is also changed by the studies done to learn how and what colors and shapes make us want to have or do something.
Graphic design, a form of art that is referred to as the art of creating something through text, space, and design. Although this is not what it used to be, graphic design can be dated as far back as the caves of Lascaux, cave walls with pictures of animals from an estimated 17,000 years ago. Although this is not graphic design as it is commonly seen today, it is considered, in a sense, graphic design due to it being an image that was painted, albeit without the same intentions as those who design graphics for logos and other mediums. These caves can be seen as a place where design may have started, but from there throughout the expansion of man, design got more and more complex. It became more digitized and made via computers. Graphic design was often used in books, with the font and images used, a good example of this is the Book of Kells which uses graphic design on some of the pages
Graphic design is now at the point that it is used every day by large companies and small family businesses. It is used to represent something bigger than itself, and become the symbol for the entire entity. An example of this can be seen when someone is asked to think of McDonald’s, many would think of the golden arches that we recognize miles down the road before we can see the building or even read t...

A good example of this is through FedEx’s logo, between the E and the X you can see an arrow. This can portray many different things to different people, but generally it gives off the idea that the arrow takes you where you need to go, just as FedEx takes your package’s where they need to go. You can see all of these different studies implemented into everyday life. Some examples of how these are used all the time all around us are, for how color affects us, McDonald’s logo witch is red and yellow, also there golden arches which are so iconic they are recognized more than the Christian cross, Burger King, which uses red, and Wendy’s which uses red and yellow. Also for the zero space, as mentioned before, FedEx is a famous company to use this.
