Eulogy for Son
First I would like to say thank you for the tremendous outpouring of love and affection from our community at last night’s viewing for John. Roger at the funeral home told us this was the largest turnout he can remember. Close to 1,000 friends—and many people who were merely touched by John’s story—waited up to fours hours in the rain to pay their respects. We want you to know how very grateful and very touched we were by the response. As Congressman Johnson said in his tribute to John, entered into the Congressional Record, John truly was one of our nation’s best and brightest and dearest sons. He was already a great young man who would have served his country well, and I know he could have become one of our great leaders had he been given more time.
I also want you to know that we knew it would rain today, because one of John’s longest-running legacies is that it always rains on major events in his life: His graduation from high school, parents weekend during his plebe summer, his formal ring dance his senior year, and now today. Only his graduation from the Academy broke the mold. After four straight days of rain, God granted us a beautiful day for John’s commencement ceremonies. Perhaps rain is God’s enduring way of testing our love for John, and if today and last night are any measure, I think we passed the test with flying colors.
When the officers arrived at our door Saturday morning to give us the tragic news about John, our hearts and our lives stopped. The thought was too hard to comprehend and any parent’s worst nightmare. Our son, who had just graduated from the United States Naval Academy with academic honors, was looking forward with excitement and anticipation to entering flight school in Pensacola in September.
He was also excited about coming home for his mother’s birthday, and giving us the latest news from the Naval Academy, where he was stationed for the summer during Plebe training exercises. One of the police officers who came to our door was Bob Fischer, the father of Peter Fischer, who is one of those Plebes at the Academy. In June, our son had presented Peter with his appointment at an award ceremony at Egg Harbor Township High School, where John graduated 4th in his class in 1996.
However, the exact mechanism of action of Levetiracetam (LEV) is not currently understood and the anticonvulsant characteristics of LEV are different than other antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) (2). For instance, LEV does not present the ability to inhibit sodium channels or enhance g-aminobutyric acid (GABA) function like several other AEDs (1). The understanding of the mechanism of action of LEV as an AED is important to understand the cellular mechanisms and pathogenesis of epilepsy and develop new methods of treating epilepsy. Past studies have shown LEV to target high-voltage-activated (HVA) N-type calcium (Ca2+) channels, the synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A), and inhibit inositol 1,4,5-triphosphate receptors (IP3R) and ryanodine receptors (RyR) activated calcium-induced calcium release (CICR) (1)(3)(4).
Born in Virginia, to mother Martha Puller and father Matthew Puller, he grew to become a well recognized marine globally (Russell & Cohn, 2012). His father’s dead while he was 10 years did not stop him to achieve a high point career; in fact, his childhood lifestyle of listening to war stories...
People believed that Queen Elizabeth would restore the protestant faith after her sister, Mary destroyed it by persecuting all protestant people. The queen wished to follow this request, as she had grown up protestant and was raised to stay true to the lord. Although, she was dedicated to reestablishing her own beliefs, Elizabeth decided it was best to let Catholicism die out naturally rather than getting involved with the head of the church. Eventually, she succeeded, the majority of England’s population turned to Protestantism leaving very few Catholics. Despite the fact that Elizabeth wanted all of England to become followers of the protestant religion, she was extremely tolerant of all faiths and thought nobody deserved to be persecuted unless they were disturbing England’s peace. Queen Elizabeth I proclaimed the following, "There is only one Christ, Jesus, one faith" she exclaimed later in her reign, "all else is a dispute over trifles." She believed that as long as her fellow citizens followed the laws of the lord, they were allowed to practice whatever belief felt right to them. Elizabeth did not want the church to become a place of violence and disagreement, instead she ensured the church was welcoming to both Catholics and Protestants. People were willing to agree with the queen’s beliefs because she recognized that she was not a perfect protestant; however, Elizabeth prayed everyday hoping she would become a better follower of God. She shared her personal experiences with others, proving to them that she too was a normal person and made mistakes often. Overall, Queen Elizabeth I shaped the face of religion for England by allowing the people to follow the faith of their choosing and reestablishing Protestant
On behalf of my entire family, I want to thank all of you for your compassion and for being present here today. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Mauri-Lynne, and I'm Lionel's daughter. Dad was devoted to every one of you. We all hope that you'll share your memories of him with us, if not today then in the weeks and months to come.
September 2, 1983 Jennifer Nichole was placed in their arms to complete their family. Jennifer was a gift from heaven and an answer to their prayers. Don, Debbie and Jennifer were soon stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, located in Las Vegas, Nevada. He retired from the United States Air Force December 31, 1992. Don was very proud of his Air Force career. His family was exceptionally proud of him. Don was and always will be our hero. After retiring from the United States Air Force, he went to work at McCarran Airport where he spent the next 26 years. Don provided a secure and wonderful life for Debbie and Jennifer. They couldn’t have asked for a better husband and father. He loved the times he & Jennifer went hiking on Mt. Charleston, when they went dirt bike riding in the dessert (which Mom never knew about), and when he would ride his bicycle alongside Jennifer. Most kids, road the school bus or their parents would drive them to school. However, they road their bikes to school which was five miles away. That was after they would stop for a great nutritional breakfast, coffee cake and a soda. He was there for her softball games, basketball games, clarinet recitals and so many other
Dave has experienced a truly extraordinary life. As a child, he endured the horrors of child abuse, which included physical torture, mental cruelty, and near starvation. Upon Dave's rescue, he was identified as one of the most severely abused children in California's history. At age 12, Dave's teachers risked their careers to notify the authorities and saved his life. Upon Dave's removal, he was made a ward of the court and placed in foster care until he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at age 18. As a young adult Dave was determined to better himself--no matter what the odds.
After Elizabeth took the throne and became the ruling monarch of England she wanted to relieve the tension between the Protestants and the Catholics. Elizabeth decided on a compromise between the two religions, one that would have characteristics of both, this new religion was called Anglicanism. The factors that caused Elizabeth to make this decision were her personal religious preferences, the views of the Marian Bishops and the opinions given to her by the parliament. However this compromise did have consequences. These include the dissatisfaction from both Protestants and Catholics, The Vestiarian Controversy and the Catholic opposition the settlement.

Eulogy for Son The Death of a Child. Not many people realize that the death of a child is NOT in accordance with God’s NORMAL scheme of things. It is not a natural. God did not mean for a child to go first. A child buries the parent.
England wanted to establish their colonies. Religious conflict, moreover, disrupted England in mid-century, after King VIII let go of the relationship with the Roman Catholic Church in the 1530s, then launching the English Protestant Reformation. Christian religious groups played an influential role in each of the British colonies, and most attempted to enforce strict religious observance through both colony governments and local town rules.
Taking over from her Catholic sister Mary, Elizabeth had taken the country on a ten year process of slowly removing the Catholic translons from churches all around the country, and reinstating the more Protestant believes seen in the times of Edward. This change came at large cost, alienating England from the majority of Europe and the largest powers in the world, and creating enemies with many influence leader such as the Pope. This was a challenge not only because of the power they had religious, with the ability to excommunicate the entire nation, but because it could easily inspire religious war with Catholic nations such as Spain or France. Religion under Elizabeth also made challenges in the amount of Catholic (or previously Catholic) subjects that remained in England, as it was an ever looming threat of a religious rebellion from her own people. This can be seen true in the emphasised use of religion to round up peasants to join the cause of the Nobles in the Rebellion of the Northern Earls, which was not itself religiously motivated, but used the loss of Catholicism to raise support against the Queen in an attempt to replace her with Marry Queen of Scots. Plans like these could only be accomplished after the arrival of Mary Queen of Scots however because, she was Catholic and provided a realistic alternative to
When I asked him what it meant to be a soldier, it was as if everything he had listed were factors and experiences that shaped the caring father and loving husband he is today. Being a soldier means having integrity, maintaining high morale, while understanding that others safety and rights come before your own. Mr.Parker felt it in his heart, that his role and duty would continue to grow. Mr.Parker started a family consisting of two little girls, Sidney and Lanie. With the infinite support and love from his wife, Miranda, he’s continued filling his role as a soldier of the Colorado Army National Guard. Miranda also provides service in the Colorado Army National Guard. February 3rd, 2014, Lane joined this force. He emphasizes his gratitude towards his fellow soldiers. “The service members that I have served with and will serve with in the future, to me, are extensions of my family. I will protect and die for any of my brothers or sisters in uniform”, Mr.Parker proudly
Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I may have been the English Reformation’s greatest benefactors, all because of self interest. Henry VIII was not originally Protestant, but after the pope denied him of his divorce, Henry VIII took things into his own hands. Due to the power kings had in the Middle Ages, Henry VIII was able to control Parliament and force it to do whatever he wanted. So in 1534, Henry VIII forced Parliament to pass a law he made known as the Act of Supremacy. The Act of Supremacy stated that the king ought to be the head of the Church of England. This law gave the king complete power over the Church of England, instead of the pope. However, the type of church and state relationship did not change. Rather all the Act of Supremacy did was take power from the pope and give it to the king. Surprisingly, the Catholics did not retaliate against this strong change. The pope had always been the head of the church, but now the king had taken his position. This serves as an example of nationalism. The Catholics did not think about how removing the pope could harm their religion in any way. However, instead the people blindly followed Henry VIII because he was the leader of the nation and they assumed he was right. Also, by imposing other laws that punished Protestants, Henry VIII did not give the people much of a choice. Fortunately, for Henry VII, nationalis...
Religion was a major issue for Queen Elizabeth I. For many years the Roman Catholic Church dominated England with great power (Elizabethan World View). Most of the people who rebelled against the Roman Catholic Church formed the Protestant religion(Elizabethan World View). For many years people were unsure which religion they should partake in. This was a major conflict for many after Henry VIII, Elizabeth’s father, left the Catholic Church to become a Protestant (Elizabethan World View). After Henry VIII died, Queen Mary, Elizabeth’s half-sister took the throne (Elizabeth I). Mary ferociously tried to reinstate Catholicism in England, believing it was the only religion people should follow, unlike Queen Elizabeth I Mary did not believe in religious freedom (Elizabeth I).
Before I begin I would like to thank all of you here on behalf of my mother, my brother and myself, for your efforts large and small to be here today, to help us mark my fathers passing.
