Ethics are a set of principles that people follow, these principles are what many people follow. Ethics is about how people should behave and how to determine what is good and bad, or right or wrong. There are two types of issues, they each involve three sections the first is God (Divine Command Theory), society (Ethical Relativism), and the individual (Existentialism). The first is subjectivism, these are neither true not false statements. Because value is very controversial its value is subjective. True and false are about what is the case, and value theory states what the case should be, that makes value theory subjective. This leads to the first of our two types of issues. It is about the benefit of the many and how much happiness and pleasure it brings in the greatest number possible. It focuses on the maximum pleasure and wants to limit the amount of displeasure at all possible costs. Utilitarianism is about not abiding by your own wants and needs but about what is the best possible outcome that maximizes. This theory gives us the ability to not choose according to our moral understandings but to choose the best outcome in total. It is considered to be a very fair theory for all participants. The old man is dead and will not see this money. I believe that in the whole aspect of it, Smith made the old man happy. But giving his money away to a football team won’t make the old man any happier. The virtue theory says that it isn’t about what makes us happy at the moment but what makes us happy in the end and that our lives were overall fulfilling. I believe that in the end Smith is doing the right thing in the aspects of Value theory. This will help to make his life fulfilling and happy, and when he looks back on the situation when he’s dying it will have been worth it.
